I see all these threads for Aussie people and thought we should have our own thread too. Not sure why, I just felt the need to make us feel special too!

So, who's stateside and where are you?

I'll start:

Mamama - in Chicago

Wouldn't shop at Tesco's in London because of the rotten customer service and there wasn't much else in the way of competition. I can't see them surviving in the USA where customer service rules and there are lots of great choices.

chocchipcookie · 06/11/2007 22:25

I agree. Also it is so different here culturally.

As for customer service and choice time for a rant about Boden USA who insist on giving their garment measurements in metric and their sizes in UK and everything decent in women's is sold out anyway.

But if Tesco grasp the differences I think they could do well on the ready meal convenience stuff. And those mince pies in the silver boxes, the premium range, God I have been away too long can't remember what it's called.

GreatGlowingMoogly · 07/11/2007 03:34

Tesco's Finest, I think, or is it Taste the Difference - I get muddled up!

Cali, there will be other locations opening on Thursday, see here

alipiggie · 07/11/2007 03:55

Tesco Finest - Taste the Difference is Sainsbury isn't it. Wow Tesco's mince pies. Bit far to commute from Colorado though , much as I'd love to.

Have found a great little British Shop though where I can buy my mincemeat from and real imported Cadburys' chocolate. That reminds me I hope Califrau/Fright some maltesers don't I.

OverRated · 07/11/2007 03:59

Why am I excited about Tescos opening in California? It's like finding the Boots No7 section of Target strangely comforting. I never buy any of it, but I always have a quick look.

And someone has just offered to buy me a flight home for a week at Thanksgiving. Am very tempted! I need Hulahoops.

dooneygirl · 07/11/2007 04:27

Hulahoops?

chocchipcookie · 07/11/2007 12:21

Target has Number 7??? Aaaagh. I'm off there now.

At least it is "British". The section in our supermarket that has Heinz beans, maltesers, bisto, etc is apparently "Irish" .

OverRated · 08/11/2007 00:10

Same here, Googly. Apparently Marmite, Ribena & Jaffa Cakes are Irish

expatinscotland · 08/11/2007 00:26

Now I have not set foot in the US in nearly 6 years, but the one thing I'd like to do is go on a massive spending spree in Target and then have dinner in some insanely wasteful restaurant like Outback Steakhouse.

Then I think I'd be ready to come back to Scotland .

OverRated · 08/11/2007 00:41

lol @ Expat's shopping spree & dinner plan!

I think I'd do the same - one of the things I am looking forward to about returning to the UK (if I ever do), is being able to visit Target when I come back to the US! In fact, it has become a bit of a ritual - all our visitors request an afternoon in Target!

"My mom went to Target and all I got was this lousy t-shirt"

jabberwocky · 08/11/2007 03:02

Congrats ali!!

Gotta love Target.

so how many of you say tar'-get and how many say tar-jhay'?

DH says Tarjhay while holding his little finger up in the air. I think he might be slightly bitter about the amount of money that gets spent there, although it doesn't compare to what gets spent at Costco.

OverRated · 08/11/2007 04:43

When DS (2) plays on the ride-on toys, I ask him where he's going and he always says "TarGit. Buy Toys."

I took him to the Children's museum last week to meet Curious George. He was very upset when CG left, so I told him he was probably going to have lunch and take a nap. DS thought for a while, then said "Monkey not take nap. Monkey go TarGit"

Honestly, I do take him to more interesting places

chocchipcookie · 08/11/2007 12:30

Well we (me and DD 9 months) only go out once a week to Kroger where we buy exactly the same things every week.

chocchipcookie · 09/11/2007 23:53

OK Thanks to you lot I thought it would be a good idea to go to Target today to buy ONLY a cheap Black and Decker food processor - $29.99. Got it. Prepared to leave store.

I also bought from those $1 displays -

2 pairs Christmas baby socks
2 baby board books
1 dog toy
1 year planner
1 Christmas cookie tin

That's not so bad. Then the Traget bug bit me -

1 roll Christmas wrap
3 packs Christmas tags
2 Christmas bows
2 packs tissue paper
1 Christmas guest towel - I never bought this stuff before I moved here - and 2 little useless matching towels
1 hooded snowman towel for dd
1 Christmas dress for step grand-daughter
2 packs deodorant for ds
2 tubs Similac
I large metal basting spoon
2 collage photo frames

Welcome to the dark side, chocchip

chocchipcookie · 10/11/2007 02:43

I have just used the Black and Decker and it is fab. DD now wearing Christmas socks and red Christmas towels with green wreath motif hung up in bathroom.

I challenge anyone with a baby/toddler not to buy the hooded snowman towel. He has a big orange nose and a red striped hat.

I can't even begin to start listing all the things I managed to buy in Target today....., DH not happy but lots of Christmas shopping done for kids . Talking of Christmas, what is the "done thing" with regards to buying presents for pre-school teachers?
Weather is very cold here now, although only 2 weeks ago the kids were in shorts , still haven't got the weather sussed!
