MrsBigD · 05/09/2006 14:01

As I'm useless trawling through threads and remembering who's who... here's a stat thread to summarise everybody

SYDNEY

inthepink · 13/10/2006 12:37

Thanks Hauntedsandcastles, we really appreciate any help given.

Have you settled in okay?

HauntedsandCastle · 13/10/2006 12:48

We have thanks.

I love Adelaide, we are quite close to the beach, shops etc. We are in an area where the schools aren't great, but we are only here ion a short rental (dh's cousin house, which means a good rate!)
DD is too young for school so we have a while to sort it. I do have her on a list for a kindy tho.

HauntedsandCastle · 13/10/2006 12:50

one bit of info, off top of head...if you do come here, you should aim for the southern suburbs (will compile list in due time)....

inthepink · 13/10/2006 13:08

thanks, much appreciated, I am sure that we will have plenty of questions in due course and by the time we get there you will know all the best things to see and do in Adelaide.

by the way, isn't it a bit late there or am I mistaken in the time difference

HauntedsandCastle · 14/10/2006 09:27

inthepink, Sorry internet went down!

It was about 11pm I suppose. Not late by my standards.

If you can't get me around here I'm at
[email protected]. Just ask away, I'll do my best to get you info. Welcome to the South Aussie club, it was getting lonely here!

inthepink · 16/10/2006 12:43

Thanks HauntedSC, will be in touch, dh has been checking various websites for jobs, most seem to be in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, there are a few in Adelaide but seeing as the plan is to move in 2+ years we will have to see where the best deal is for him. I looked at the other thread on Adelaide and it sounds super, can't wait to visit next summer - seems a long way off but am sure it will creep up on us in no time. I will e-mail when we have more questions (which I am sure there will be plenty of!!)

HauntedsandCastle · 16/10/2006 15:45

No probs, by next summer I'll know the area better too...hopefully.

cori · 17/10/2006 21:07

Hello everybody,
Some of you might already know as the aussie who is happily living in London. However after a recent visit to Australia I think we might have decided to return. I KNOW, I KNOW i have said many times that I love London, i still do. But somehow I think australia might be better for the children and it certainly is a lot friendlier and probably safer too. There is so much to think about if we are going to do this.
If we do return , we will be living in Sydney but where I dont know.

eastendgirl · 18/10/2006 14:55

Cori, what made you change your mind? Are you moving from London?

cori · 18/10/2006 21:17

I just realised how much more pleasent people are in Australia for one, also I think it is probably safer for children to grow up. I am quite tired and upset ab hearing about teenagers being stabbed on their way to school. I know for fact Australia is not perfect, far from it but on balance it probably is safer and kinder society.

cori · 18/10/2006 21:18

Nothing is decided yet, but we will be moving from London.

mosschops30 · 18/10/2006 21:20

Can i join, I will be looking to move about a year after I qualify as a nurse (2008) unfortunately I have to do a year post-reg in the UK or it would be sooner.

Its definately on the cards now and something to look forward to, I cant wait, feel like I am waiting for my life to start over there

cori · 18/10/2006 21:30

Have you been there before mosschops? Where would you like to go?

mosschops30 · 18/10/2006 21:37

yes dh spent a year travelling, and I went out for a month with the kids and dh, we did the east coast, so havent been to Melbourne or Perth.

Dont know at present where I would like to be, preferably somewhere with smaller spiders , depends where I can get work and accommodation is reasonable. I'm planning my mid-life crisis in Byron Bay though

mosschops30 · 18/10/2006 21:41

saying that, it will have to be a city, I am a city girl through and through. probably sydney or melbourne

teabags · 18/10/2006 21:47

Hi Melbournemum
I've been off line for a while. Good to hear you love Sandringham! Sounds lovely. We'll be in Oz in 3 weeks.

tanyac · 19/10/2006 04:58

mum26plus · 01/11/2006 00:21

Hi there just wanted to say hi to everyone. I'm what you call a local aussie after 37 years here but both DP and I are of Brit stock. Thought I'd add to the Tassie contingent as Ozjo might have been feeling lonely . I live south of Hobart in the Huon Valley, a beautiful part of Tassie, which is where a lot of Brits make their home as it's just like they never left, quaint village, picturesque scenery right down to the b**y cold winters .

Kids: DS1 16
DD1 15
DS2 12
DD2 11
DS3 7
DD3 2
and jellybean due Feb 07

OzJo · 02/11/2006 08:07

mum26plus.......oh my god, you will have 7 children! I am awestruck...nice to see someone else from Tassie uses mumsnet! mosschops, just to say there is a shitload of work going for nurses, myself and my partner are both psych nurses, and have worked in pretty much all over the place. There are big nursing agencies in all the main cities....we loved Melbourne, really good vibe to it ( better pubs than anywhere else in Oz).....

mum26plus · 04/11/2006 06:58

Hi Ozjo, yep number 7 on it's way. Most people think I haven't got a brain in my head having this many. I think it surprises them when I tell them I was doing my B.A in psych before number 6 arrived and would have kept doing it but she was a determined litte thing, determined she was getting all the attention and I wasn't going to do anything I wanted. I lived in Melb for 12 years and hate going back now, I find it really dirty and smelly, I think Sydney's much cleaner but prefer Adelaide if I had to move.

MrsBonfire · 06/11/2006 07:14
