I've been in Australia about 7 years, lived briefly in Adelaide and Sydney, then aprox 18 months in Melbourne, Perth, Darwin and now in Hobart, Tasmania....( people who say it is just like England have never been to England ).
I have Dd 3 and Ds 1, we've been in Tassie about 2 years, love it here, it's really good for kids, Mt Wellington looms over everything, it's really beautiful.
Miss the pubs, and my mum, though mum makes it out about once every one or two years, and having two small children, it's not as if I get to go to the pub that often anymore.....

Can I join to?
In Glasgow but will be moving August 2007 to Brisbane area, not decided on exact location, that will be down to jobs. Goverment will be sponsering us for work, we plan to go out in Jan 2007 for a few months to look about various areas only been twice before and mainly went to all touristy places, howver we want to get an idea of house prices, childcare etc.

skye77 · 27/09/2006 12:14

Hi

I'm a brand new member, just been lurking here for a bit. I live in SA and have lived in the UK for two years in 2000. We were planning to go back to the UK hence my always being on UK forums, but this year decided to go to OZ instead. Applications have been submitted so we're waiting for a reply, hoping to go sometime in 2008. Goal destination is Brisbane!

I'm another one addicted to domain.com.au - thought I was the only one..

Bump expected 5th Jan.

sandcastles · 27/09/2006 12:19

hey sky, welcome. Am in SA too, where abouts are you?

dejags · 27/09/2006 12:25

Hi Skye and Sandcastles - another Saffa here (although currently of no fixed address as travelling around the world).

Permanent Residence visa application lodged April 06
Temporary business visa application lodged August 06

Will move to Melbourne as soon as the first one is processed. DH will work in Melbourne CBD - I will be a lady of leisure.

2 children - DS1 = 5; DS2 = 2

sydneygirl · 27/09/2006 12:53

I'm here too! Sydneygirl is actually living in Melbourne, with DH, and two DSs aged 3 and 1. We've been here for almost 6 months and are living down on the Mornington Peninsula. We are surrounded by so many Brits, it's really quite wierd. Sometimes feels like we haven't moved to the other side of the world.

skye77 · 27/09/2006 13:19

Hi sydneygirl, dejags and sandcastles

Sorry, wasn't specific enough - I meant I'm in South Africa, not South Australia.. must get used to there being another SA now!

Have just been pouring over the forum and am wondering if Melbourne or Sydney might be an option too.. aargh just when we decided!

sandcastles · 27/09/2006 13:30

ahhh, see sky, you were making me think that they'd be more than just lil 'ol me down here in South Oz! I was getting all excited!

jenkel · 27/09/2006 13:46

Ohh, didnt see this

Looking to move to Sydney, immediately after Christmas 2007, looking to go to North Shore as family around that area, 2 dd's, 2 1/2 and 4 years. Oh and another one with a cat!

dejags · 27/09/2006 15:10

Skye, I am also from S. Africa (cape town).

We loved Brisbane and would move there tomorrow if we could, sadly gotta go with the job, so Melbourne it is.

eidsvold · 27/09/2006 22:57

Skye - I am in brissy. When do you anticipate being here??? I too have a bump - due Mar07.

teabags · 28/09/2006 22:22

Hi Teabags, I am so jealous...Loved melbourne such a lovely city. We still can't decide when to go back, still renting here been back for a year now, ds is 6 months and family are keeping us here at the moment, but I can't see us living in uk forever. Where are you going to live in Melbourne?

sydneygirl · 29/09/2006 01:10

I'm here, Tea bags. Melbourne is ace. We're really glad we chose to live here, although we're finding things a little more expensive than we thought they'd be. where are you moving too?

Hi everyone
It's good to see there's a Melborune contingency!
Not sure where we'll live......... hopefully bayside somewhere. I spent a year travelling around Oz and then working in Melb in the late 90's and have had quite a few visits since, as DH is an aussie. So I have a good idea what to expect but even so it still feels like a big move. Up to my ears in packing at the mo

hi all
can I creep on to the stats
myself, dh, ds1 (3) and ds2 (16months) moved back to Melbourne in March after 6 years in London.

Sydneygirl (and any other melbourne mums of course!) it would be lovely to meet up sometime, it looks like we have ds's about the same age.
MIL is in Mornington so it would give me a good reason to visit her as I don't make the effort enough.
We are in Sandringham so its only about 45 mins

teabags · 06/10/2006 19:45

hi there melbournemum
I'm moving to Melbourne in about a month's time (with DH, DS 16 mths and bump)
We're thinking we'll live in Sandringham or nearby (Mentone, Parkdale?). How are you liking it?

melbournemum · 10/10/2006 04:07

hi Teabags
We LOVE Sandringham. Its brilliant. Still close enough to the city (25 mins), on the trainline, right by the beach, loads of parks and facilities, 5 minutes to a huge shopping centre etc etc. I can't imagine being happier anywhere else. it feels perfect for us. Have met lots of lovely mums at local Playhouse etc and feel really settled here now. it took a good few months to feel that way but that would have been the case anywhere I think. please feel free to email me at tuesdayandtheboys at gmail dot com if you would like to chat more and/or meet up when you arrive.

inthepink · 13/10/2006 12:30

Hi all, can we be added to this thread.

Me, dh and ds aged 5 are thinking of moving to Oz in a couple of years time, will be coming next year for a holiday to see. We are currently living in Dubai.

Thinking of Adelaide as dh has been told that is a good place for chef jobs. Perhaps Sandcastles could let us know more about the area!!

HauntedsandCastle · 13/10/2006 12:34

inthepink, I'll try. have only been here for 14 weeks, but am up for the challange! If I can't help, i will source the info for you
