Thread for those who have a parent with cancer?

I'm just wondering if there is a general one that I've missed, or, if not, if there's any interest in making one?
(I know there's Still the storm for people who have partners with terminal cancer.)

My mum was recently diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer, and I'm sure there are other people here struggling with a parent's diagnosis.

So sorry for your loss @Justmuddlingalong. Glad you were with your bil and he was peaceful. It is all we can hope for when we are in this position @Triplediagnosis so sorry to hear your news that is. Shitty day. Getting old sucks.

ButnotforLola · 16/07/2022 08:06

@Justmuddlingalong So sorry to hear of your sad news. My thoughts are with you and your family.

@unicornsarereal72 Thank you for your kind words. I think I do have the contact details as he said he had been given a number for me to call if I had any questions. I do have support, I have my husband and friends who know my Dad well have been amazing.

@Triplediagnosis Your poor Dad. As @unicornsarereal72 said, it sucks getting old.

Can I join you?

DM has been diagnosed with invasive breast cancer and will have a mastectomy in 2/3 weeks. She is 86 and in very good health normally, so we feel she has a good quality of life to fight for.

DM is fiercely independent and my current battle is getting her to accept I might need to stay over for a few days.

Sorry to read all your stories on this thread.

AnxietyLevelMax · 27/07/2022 22:10

@h0rsewithn0name sorry about your DM. Hope it will be all fine after the surgery.

h0rsewithn0name · 28/07/2022 16:42

@AnxietyLevelMax thank you. She has her surgery booked in for Friday of next week. Time to put my big girl pants onl

unicornsarereal72 · 31/07/2022 15:26

@h0rsewithn0name hope all goes well for your mother.

LarkRize · 03/08/2022 10:15

@h0rsewithn0name, sending all good vibes to you and your DM. My mother had a (second) mastectomy at 85 and has recovered remarkably, no apparent I’ll effects.

h0rsewithn0name · 03/08/2022 18:54

@LarkRize that's so encouraging to hear, thank you.

unicornsarereal72 · 03/08/2022 19:11

We have a meeting with the consultant Friday. Keep everything crossed for as good an outcome as possible for my dad. 🤞

ButnotforLola · 04/08/2022 19:53

Hey everyone.
We had the appointment today with the consultant.
He sadly confirmed that there is cancer in my Dad's lung, lymph nodes and his ribs.
Oncology will be in touch to get chemotherapy started and they are awaiting some further results to see if immunotherapy is possible.
I think I knew deep down the cancer was definite in the lung but hadn't expected the news it was in the ribs. Probably me being naïve.
Hope everyone else is holding up ok.

h0rsewithn0name · 04/08/2022 20:18

Sorry to hear this @ButnotforLola , that isn't what you wanted to hear at all. I hope they come up with a manageable treatment plan.

@unicornsarereal72 , I hope your appointment goes well tomorrow.

unicornsarereal72 · 04/08/2022 21:25

@ButnotforLola sorry to hear about your dad. We already know the cancer started in my dads lungs and has spread to his brain just hope we have months and not weeks. We will know more in the morning. @h0rsewithn0name thank you for your kind thoughts. None of us want to be in this boat at all.

EmotionalRollercoasterMess · 05/08/2022 07:08

Sorry for everyone going through this 💐💐

My dad died earlier this week 9 months after his initial brain tumour diagnosis.

Dealing with the aftermath seems so surreal. Mixed emotions as he suffered so much towards the end but is at peace now wherever he is!

unicornsarereal72 · 05/08/2022 07:18

@EmotionalRollercoasterMess you and your family are in my thoughts.

ButnotforLola · 05/08/2022 07:30

@unicornsarereal72

EmotionalRollercoasterMess · 05/08/2022 08:52

Thank you 💐

unicornsarereal72 · 05/08/2022 10:58

We have life expectancy of 6/12 months assuming they can get some control over the brain tumour. This fucking sucks.

ButnotforLola · 05/08/2022 17:10

@unicornsarereal72 I'm so sorry. It really does suck. There are no other words.

Wallawallakoala · 06/08/2022 11:23

I'm so sorry everyone it's just so awful x

ElizabethTudor · 08/08/2022 23:19

I haven’t been on this thread for a while. Very sadly my dear Dad died a few weeks ago. I haven’t really processed it, as it was all quite traumatic (not the end - thankfully that was peaceful, just the run up to it). I think I’m still in shock tbh.
I’m so sorry to everyone new who has joined who is going through this, and to everyone who has lost a loved one. Thinking of you all.

ElizabethTudor · 08/08/2022 23:26

Sorry - just to clarify, traumatic just because of stuff that led to his death. Nothing cancer related. Don’t want to cause any unnecessary worry.

unicornsarereal72 · 09/08/2022 06:40

@ElizabethTudor I'm so sorry to hear your news. The loss of a loved one is hard. I hope you got some time with your dad to tell him how special he is.

ButnotforLola · 09/08/2022 08:02

@ElizabethTudor My thoughts are with you and your family.

Fhortu · 09/08/2022 19:40

I'm really sorry, ElizabethTudor. Thinking of you.
