I am being threatened with injunction, can he do that?

Long story short I met a guy online and saw him for 9 months.
During this time he sent me many videos of him touching himself. Nudes etc
He has broken it off with me, which is fine, obviously I am upset.
But he is threatening me if I contact him he will get an injunction against me.
Obviously I feel incredibly intimidated by this. I haven't contact him, for the fear of a legal case. I haven't contact a good job and two children to think of.

I just wanted to check, would contacting such as messaging an ex partner be grounds for an injunction?
Obviously I'm not going to do this but I just wanted to be clear if he could actually carry out this threat?

Thanks for any legal advice.

I dont know if I am reading between the lines or indeed just watched too many documentaries but is he married/in a relationship and threatening that if you get in touch with him personally or his wife/other half with the proof of your 9 month relationship that he wil do this? Otherwise not sure what the relevance of the mentioning of nudes is for.

MarketValveForks · 20/11/2024 10:42

Are you definitely not pregnant by him? Do a test to be sure. He may simply be worrying that you're about to land a CM claim on him. An injunction wouldn't stop you doing that as you could manage it via 3rd party contact.

If that's not an issue then there's no need to be in touch with him. He's probably worried that any contact from you might jeopardise his new relationship (or other relationship, if you were an affair for him)

Sia8899 · 20/11/2024 10:47

I don’t understand why he’d mention something as drastic as an injunction unless you’ve been harassing him or threatening to share his nudes. Do you think he could feel like you’ve been doing that?

Him being married would make a lot of sense.

GoneTooFarAgain · 20/11/2024 10:48

Why did you mention the videos he sent you? If you share those anywhere you'd be rightfully prosecuted and potentially going to jail.

If he's asked you to stop contacting him, stop contacting him. I know it hurts but you'll just have to come to terms with it.

singlelostmama · 20/11/2024 11:00

Firstly, I haven't given every detail of our relationship as I don't want advice or judgement on our relationship.

What I was looking for is advice on grounds for injunction.

Secondly - he has never told me directly not to contact him. But through a friend. He was in a bad way before we parted threatened suicide on text, hence me wanting to check on him. I cared for him deeply.

Thirdly, I have never threatened him. I don't know why I said about the images and videos it was wrong to mention as your right it means nothing ( I will edit OP), I would not use them in anyway - I guess I was worried he might be threatening because he has sent them to me. I have never sent him full nudes of myself, however we did share some stuff.

To be clear - I have not contacted him since we split.

@BodyKeepingScore, I'm not sure why he thinks there is grounds for one, this is part of my question really? why would there be...normal relationship before - never mentioned it then

@LivingLaVidaBabyShower not been in contact since split at all

@StickyWikkit never threatened anything, loved the guy is all

@TheSilkWorm never made any threats

@PoissonOfTheChrist want to contact him as I cared for him alot, he was in a bad place when we split up, he mentioned suicide and driving fast etc - I'm concerned. But mainly I'm after legal advice on what is grounds for injunction?

An injunction is normally used to stop someone publishing something. A restraining order is for harassment. Op have you been threatening him? Revenge porn is a criminal act. Even threatening it you will be in trouble. Delete the videos and images.

In a nutshell, I would take this as a clear indication he does not want you to contact him even for the most well intentioned reason.

So don’t and he will have no grounds to apply for any kind of order to stop you contacting him. It’s quite simple.

But if you want really specific advice, look up Non Molestation orders and Restraining Orders. Also the National Centre for Domestic Violence is good website for advice that could you give more information.

Cross posted, if you’ve not contacted him it appears a mental health issue his side, there is no grounds,

BeMintBee · 20/11/2024 11:11

I think you mean restraining order not injunction. There may be grounds if contact is deemed harassment or stalking but no one can give you a hard and fast answer really. But (and my legal training is zero) I would in your position assume that he could seek a restraining order and act accordingly i.e don’t contact him further.

prh47bridge · 20/11/2024 11:12

If you haven't contacted him since the split, a single message would not be enough for him to get an order preventing future contact. However, multiple messages could be grounds.

By the way, @Losingthetimber is wrong. Whilst we often hear the term used in the context of preventing publication, that is not the only use of injunctions, or even the most common use. An injunction is an order prohibiting a person from doing something or requiring them to do something. A restraining order can only be made at the end of a criminal case whilst an injunction can be made before anyone has been charged. If you were harassing your ex (which you clearly aren't from what you have posted), he could get an injunction to prevent you contacting him.

lollypopsforme · 20/11/2024 11:15

Delete all pics and videos block him and move on no need for drama learn from it.

Sassybooklover · 20/11/2024 11:15

The friend may or may not be telling the truth. As your ex hasn't directly told you not to contact him, then we don't know for sure if the message is genuine or not. However, you need to proceed as if the message is genuine and your ex doesn't want to hear from you again, regardless of the circumstances. The videos etc he sent to you, need to be deleted. The relationship has ended and you have no reason to keep them. Your ex could ask for a restraining order, if he considered any contact by you as harassment. My advice would be to never contact this man again, block his number and move on.

TheTruthICantSay · 20/11/2024 11:17

It sounds to me like he thinks you're goign to publish the videos. So just don't. And if he sends you a legal letter saying don't, that's fine too becauseyou're not going to. It's not like an injuction goes on your record and is some big deal.

He sounds like he has significant mental health issues. But you're not with him anymore, so that's really not your problem.

TooBigForMyBoots · 20/11/2024 11:22

Have you threatened to tell his wife or send her the msgs @singlelostmama?

housemaus · 20/11/2024 11:22

A very weird post - as PP have said, talking about legal action and mentioning his nudes sounds like you've threatened to share them?

Otherwise, I'm not sure why you're asking: yes, of course he could seek legal help if you kept contacting him against his wishes as it would potentially amount to harrassment, but why would you keep contacting him against his wishes? There's absolutely no need for you to worry about an injunction taken to stop you doing something if you just... don't do it?

Once again I have not threatened to share - I will NOT share. I mentioned as I wondered if he felt threatened knowing I have them...

Is he married??

DaisyChain505 · 20/11/2024 11:31

If you don’t plan on contacting him again why are you bothered?

move on and get on with your life, as will he.

Why do you still have them? Delete them. Doesn’t matter if you intend to share or not.

The way you post suggests he has some legitimate concerns.

Msmoonpie · 20/11/2024 11:36

If you haven’t contacted him how do you know he would want an injunction ?

3luckystars · 20/11/2024 11:38

Maybe he is just embarrassed and wants to put the whole relationship behind him. I think you should do the same. Forget he existed.

She's answered that. The message cam via a friend. Even without that, I don't see why you are confused. It is perfectly possible for him to send OP a text saying that she isn't to contact him and that he will get an injunction to prevent further contact if she does. No need for her to contact him at all.

AlohaRose · 20/11/2024 11:41

Does it matter whether he can get an injunction or not? He is your EX, he has told you not to contact him, it doesn't matter how deeply you cared for him or how much you tell yourself that you are going to contact him from a place of caring about him - he doesn't want it! Make it easy on everyone by deleting his contact details and blocking him on everything. Job done.
