Neighbours own the road of course!

Probably trivial but is getting a real pain.

Residential on street parking, no restrictions at all. If neighbours can’t get parked exactly at their front door they box me in in by double parking against my car, meaning their car is parked parallel to me so close we can’t even get in drivers doors.

There is also a car in front & behind so I have to wait for them to move, they are parked as they should be.

We have been blocked in and knocked to ask them to move and they don’t answer the door. I usually end up walking .

Its deliberately being done now. I know this as this family have been awful to me since I moved in my home 2 years ago.

What can I actually do?

I am curious how @FallingAutumnLeafknows the colour of OPs car

Perhaps she IS the wanky neighbour 😆

WhatapityWapiti · 22/09/2023 12:42

I think that the reason that so many people are failing to understand OP’s perfectly clear description is the cognitive dissonance between what they are reading and the ability to believe that anyone would park in such a blatantly illegal way.

cuddlebear · 22/09/2023 12:45

I would have called the police the first time and every subsequent time they did this.

CitizenofMoronia · 22/09/2023 12:46

so how does the blue car get out? i don't believe this is an accurate diagram.

MrsMoastyToasty · 22/09/2023 12:53

First rule of Parking Wars- the OP must supply a diagram.
Thems the rules.

Mellowautumnmists · 22/09/2023 12:54

I second what @NoSquirrels and @prh47bridge say.

Adding to this: take a picture every single time it happens, and make a log of time/date so you have evidence. It is harassment and they need to stop.

Also have any of your neighbours got CCTV which might show them in the act?

The same way that anyone else exits an on-street parking space- the cars park with enough space between them to allow you to reverse slightly, turn your nose out and drive off. Are you not familiar with on-street parking?

Wakintoblueskies · 22/09/2023 12:56

How many cars are in your household OP?

I'm trying to find a reason why the neighbours are specifically targeting you. I am not condoning what they are doing. I am hoping it is not because they see you as an easy target because you a woman living on your own!

Bobbielikespeas · 22/09/2023 12:57

Can you find a friend who will the park next to the green car to block the whole road? Then the green car would look like more of a wanker for parking in the middle and blocking the whole road.

PickledFox · 22/09/2023 13:00

Don’t engage with the neighbours in any way. Log it with parking control at council as soon as they block you in, every time. They’ll soon stop once the parking tickets start rolling in.

They won’t know it was you who reported it. If they accuse you, just okay it casual deny it and say you don’t know anything about it. In our area we have smart cars that go around ticketing people - maybe your area has one too??? 🤔

Moving forward, just pretend they don’t exist.

Solesisterouch · 22/09/2023 13:03

The confusion is exactly because one cannot imagine the audacity of parking parallel to a parked car just to make a point. We do need background though. Are there only on-street spaces. Any driveways?

…are you serious?

KirstenBlest · 22/09/2023 13:16

You could do what I call cunty parking. You leave a gap just too small to get a car into in front of yours. if you're really lucky you can leave the same sort of gap behind you, so that you are taking almost two spaces. I had a neighbour who did it regularly.

stillplentyofjunkinthetrunk · 22/09/2023 13:20

many people erroneously believe they own the road in front of their house. As long as you aren't blocking a driveway OP is doing nothing wrong (legally or morally) if she parks in front of their house when there is a space there but not in front of her own.

HOWEVER, if that IS the only circumstance in which they do it, and if I understand correctly they aren't doing it to any of the other neighbours when the other residents park in front of NDN house it's definitely them being assholes because they think they can get away with it.

Assuming the excellent diagram is correct.

McIntire · 22/09/2023 13:23

OP
My advice is to go out and take a photo from various different angles, every single time:
Take your time, you want to be noticed.

Better still, get a friend to do it whilst wearing a hi vis best or jacket.

I wouldn't have thought of this but it is a good idea. Your other neighbours will have seen and noted what the asshole neighbours are doing and will probably even agree with you doing it.

Fahbeep · 22/09/2023 13:27

Ask police for help with harassment.

What a tit

pickledandpuzzled · 22/09/2023 13:35

Presumably it's a really wide road so the traffic isn't blocked.

I'd report to council and police for enforcement. And speak to other neighbours to find out if there's an issue you haven't considered.

Sit there with your hand on the horn until all the neighbours come out and see what dicks they are. Or buy an old car and block them in. Or set fire to their house...

This made me chuckle. It escalated so quickly.

KirstenBlest · 22/09/2023 13:51

@topnoddy , if you drilled into someone's tyres and they drove the car, had an accident, and someone died , the law would probably throw the book at you and you would probably get a custodial sentence for manslaughter.
