Neighbours own the road of course!

Probably trivial but is getting a real pain.

Residential on street parking, no restrictions at all. If neighbours can’t get parked exactly at their front door they box me in in by double parking against my car, meaning their car is parked parallel to me so close we can’t even get in drivers doors.

There is also a car in front & behind so I have to wait for them to move, they are parked as they should be.

We have been blocked in and knocked to ask them to move and they don’t answer the door. I usually end up walking .

Its deliberately being done now. I know this as this family have been awful to me since I moved in my home 2 years ago.

What can I actually do?

In addition to calling the police etc, I don't suppose you have a friend who is going on holiday for a couple of weeks? Do they need somewhere to park while you drive them on to the airport?

Buy a taxed and mot'd dirt cheap banger and leave it outside their house for a few months. Worth every penny 😆

CherryCokeFanatic · 24/09/2023 13:30

Yes the cheap banger suggestion is great. Few hundred quid all in on the car, VED and some basic 3rd party insurance. Leave it in their spot for months. Maybe occasionally when you notice they are out, drive it out, turn around and park it again in the same spot but facing the other way.

BranchGold · 24/09/2023 13:31

How bloody bizarre and anti social of them.

Daffodilsandtuplips · 24/09/2023 13:37

Excellent diagram OP. We have a Facebook page called Parking like a Twat
in Myhometown. ( A touristy town) we see all kinds of twattish pasrking.
I’ve seen a Fire engine almost bulldoze a car out of the way that was parked like your twattish neighbours car.

SD1978 · 22/09/2023 09:24

What do you mean they are parked as they should be? Does this only happen if you park in front of 'their' house?

As my father used to regularly tell us, you have no right to park on the street outside your own house. It doesn't matter if the OP is parked outside their own house, the nasty neighbour's house or some other neighbour's house, she has the same right to park outside each. Though people don't like it if someone else parks outside their house.

stayathomer · 24/09/2023 14:17

I am sorry, I know it’s been said before but wow to FallingAutumnLeaf’s diagram!

AuntieDolly

Sit there with your hand on the horn until all the neighbours come out and see what dicks they are. Or buy an old car and block them in. Or set fire to their house...
This could work … 😅

stichguru · 24/09/2023 14:23

If they are blocking the road then they are illegally parked. Call the police.

Gillbil · 24/09/2023 14:27

As pp say, pictures, records and call the police

surley thats illegally parking ?

It's a very slow day at work.
This is what I'm picturing. So they are blocking the road. Hence calling the police.

If it's anything else, please enlighten us - as I can't see how they are blocking you in without blocking the road.

How can they be next to the curb and parallel to your car if you are also next to the curb?

Diagram!

It's not hard! Op is parked at the kerb like a normal person. Bonkers neighbour parks against her passenger door, in the road.

BananaPyjamaLlama · 24/09/2023 16:56

I would be petty. Next time you see that their car isnt parked in "their" spot and you dont need yours for a few days - park in their spot. And leave it there. For ages. When they moan at you, point to all the other perfectly good spots available on your road.

PlipPlopChoo · 24/09/2023 18:43

A neighbour who behaves like that is not going to react rationally to asking them to move. I second the idea about picking this up with the non emergency fire service number. Failing that call the please out whenever possible and not to mention inviting the councils parking officers to give them a ticket.

Getting petty with somebody like this is not a very smart move. Play the long gave and involve the powers mentioned above and let the neighbour argue with them until their hearts content. They will only come off second best.

PeachyPeachTrees · 24/09/2023 18:58

Keep a diary. Keep photographing it and then show police that it's harassment.

Lilyburnspotts · 25/09/2023 09:35

Unfortunately neither the police or council care about emergency access or parking. I live in a tiny street with a busy gym and popular church in (the church is used most days!). There's literally only 8 houses and we are terrorised by people parking, blocking drives, exits. There's no way a fire engine could get through without bulldozing cars. Two years ago I petitioned the council and they 'solved' the issue by putting in a giant ugly car park on the field opposite our houses. I had to send detailed photos every week for months until I wore them down. Barely anyone uses it though so coming into my street is a case of reversing out on to a busy main street if anything is coming the other way because people can't walk 2 minutes to the gym and insist on parking on the double yellows. Hugely dangerous but police and council do not care here. Suppose they've got more important issues but its scary to think emergency services won't get in! I can now get in my own drive now which is a positive though.

What happens if they are home first, do they park in the space you would normally take? Do you know anyone with an old scrap car they can dump next to theirs if they park in the spot?

She’s updated and said that her local police have said they will help if they have someone available.

Check with your local council's parking services, quite a few council's have a system where you can email photo's in of a car parking where they shouldn't be and they can send them the ticket via the post. My mate does it with the local council here because so many people park in the resident's only permit zone without a ticket and disappear for the day, because it's a street away from the train station. They ignore the signs for the residents zone. As she says, she has to pay to park there and for any visitors parking outside and often they can't get parked because there's so many cars without permits/tickets parked there instead. When she see's a car without a permit/ticket, she takes photo's and emails them to parking services 😂It might take a couple of weeks but they get their fine in the post eventually
