Is it going to be OK to talk about being a Poly here? (FFMM quad with children).

I got sucked into a thread elsewhere in Mumsnet but it didn't seem to be going anywhere, in fact it got quite nasty.

It isn't clear to a newbie like me where more unusual lifestyles get discussed

drlove8 · 30/08/2009 17:16

but surely the question is " how is poly different from a longterm threesome (or foursome, or moresome)? is it not a bit wierd to "share" your husband/ wife? do you get jelouse?.... ooops that 3 questions...

Iamapolytoo · 30/08/2009 17:26

Two questions then off-line for a while.

Empty nesting - The three girls want to move out of the family home and move into the Dower House down the track. Is this the worst of all worlds, our empty nest feeling plus girls only "playing at houses" because they will only be five minutes away plus having to move out tenant -after due notice period - to facilitate all this?

DNA - We think, in fact we are pretty certain, which children belong to which father but a DNA test would make virtually 100% certain. OK if it proves as right but concerned about the impact on all of us if we were wrong for 20+ years.

iamapolytoo ... joking aside its quite interesting to find out about IMO , dont have any judgements and quite open minded about it all... would honestly like to learn more about your lifestyle
polygamy is usual in many cultures/countries... but it is kind of secretive. please come back later x

expatinscotland · 30/08/2009 18:31

Sorry, but this is too close to Extended's story for me to believe it. In fact, it's too dodgy for me to believe it.

I think it's trolling.

So, as they say in Dragon's Den, 'I'm out.'

Have fun!

SomeGuy · 30/08/2009 19:53

of course it's trolling, nobody asks for permission to discuss their family, and mysteriously pops up at the same time as another troll with the same story.

FlightHattendant · 30/08/2009 19:55

Can someone link the other one please?

Don't be so naïve. You know quite well that the Poly Haters stole material from our private websites and blogs and tarted it up to make it look wildly OTT. Then posted it, and then taunted us with it

We didn't have a choice really but to present reality. No OTT, in fact rather boring. The Poly Haters are playing some of you like a violin.

Funny naïve as opposed to almost sinister naïve are the folk that say "I've spoken to N Poly Couples and they say ..." followed by some rubbish.

a - I don't believe such posters know many, or indeed any, Poly couples.

b - If they do know some couple in my exprience it is somewhere between very unlikely and almost inconceivable that any Poly couple would pass adverse comment on another. Certainly not without knowing lots about them

c - If they did comment expressing any views on the statistical likelyhood of a particular sub-type of Poly existing without knowing details of either the popultion or the sample size any comment is utterly meaningless. It would be like me saying because 20% of the non identical twins I know are Polys then 20% of all such twins in the world must be.

I am quite happy to fight my corner here. Not that it particularly exciting or outlandish but because it is my corner.

No Polydom is not perfect. Yes I made mistakes in my life through being a Poly. But do I regret it - not for a second. I have done very well out of it, emotionally, financially, practically - pretty much always in fact

FlightHattendant · 30/08/2009 20:48

I don't understand any of this. Is it a parallel universe here on this thread? I think I had better leave you all to it...

bye!

GoldenSnitch · 30/08/2009 21:04

is there some inside joke I'm missing out on?

Where did "Poly hating" come from?

Why even mention being a Poly if it has nothing at all do to with the problem you want advice on?

GoldenSnitch · 30/08/2009 21:06

and how have we managed to have 6 pages of a thread about sexual deviancy without mentioning Shiney and Penguins?

..actually, just seen the Chik Tik comment - as you were...

That's true.

Summer holidays are almost over though then most of them should go back to school...

UnquietDad · 30/08/2009 21:52

We had a Quad in the middle of my school, so can I join in?

And haven't all Polys been upgraded to Universities now?
