Anyway op, I also have 5 dc and have an amazing life filled with fun, different journeys, always someone venturing on a new experience, wouldn't swap it for the world, congratulations, and by the way I think families with the usual 2 kids is kind of boring 😂

Pretty much. Well, not scummy as much as uneducated on the matter. Didnt really think further ahead than the next few years. And I think part of having a large family is boredom, once you start having kids you dont really have anything else to do but keep having them as they're your identity now. In my mum's case it was mainly down to religion and thinking she was a better mum than she actually was, I think.

Wolfgirrl We don't need to defend our decisions to have big families to anyone. It's our choice and I don't care what anyone thinks. If you care so much about the population maybe you should of not had any children?

That's very interesting! My brother is like that. He wanted four. Wife wanted two. They now have two, but his DS is as noisy as three children put together, so everyone's happy!

I have been mulling over this environmental impact of large families debate a bit more since reading this thread which has made me laugh and also think, so thank you OP.

While I don’t disagree with your point @Wolfgirrl that having lots of children is bad for the environment (I do feel guilty about my four!) I think really it would be economically and ethically preferable to help those women in developing countries who don’t have large families by choice (by investing in contraception, sex education, abortion, women’s advocacy etc.) rather than criticising the very few women in Western Europe who still want and enjoy having a larger family. I don’t mean you personally but we as a society.

Maybe there also needs to be a fundamental change in consumerism -more than just recycling and only flying once a year - a huge, huge change. Prob that won’t happen in our lifetimes though.
