Hiya I'm new to this like literally just downloaded the app 5mins ago 😬 but I wanted to see how many big families are out there and when I searched it on here so many negative comments it shocked me! I'd like to chat with mums 4 or more ☺️

EsmaeD I dont think your family is included in that as you have amazingly adopted some of your children. You deserve huge admiration for that!

MondayYogurt · 01/06/2020 20:37

Economically, we need more babies.

Yes it's a big paramid scheme. So each generation needs to have more children and more children to pay for the previous ones getting older. Some countries are offering cash incentives for large families - move to Italy or Hungary and they'll be pleased to have lots of new babies! But should the world really be run to benefit GDP? Maybe a better metric would be happiness.

Mesmeri · 01/06/2020 20:37

Hiya! Can I join you? Just done bed time and made myself a cup of tea. Rock and roll!
I have 4 boys - aged 8, 6, 3 & 1. It's been a busy decade! I didn't ever expect to have 4 kids, but I'm really, really happy that I do.

The environmental impact thing people always trot out on here as a reason for being superior for having less/no kids.... weeeelll, I find it hard to agree... many of the families I know with 1/no children seem to have more cars, use aeroplanes a lot more, buy a lot more stuff they don't need, care less about recycling, composting, gardening etc .... than most of the families with 4+ children I know, who are mostly right into environmental issues.... just saying.

EsmaeDe · 01/06/2020 20:39

I don’t think admiration comes into it tbf
We wanted children and for a while it didn’t happen so we adopted

EsmaeDe · 01/06/2020 20:42

Hi @Mesmeri
Nice to meet you and of course you can join in!
Congrats on the 4 😊 and I agree a lot of our friends with smaller families are far less environmentally friendly than us although we do have a large carbon footprint as we fly frequently

Wolfgirrl · 01/06/2020 20:43

@Mesmeri please see my previous post, the environmental impact doesnt concern whether you recycle etc.

gracex4 · 01/06/2020 20:45

@Mesmeri hey ☺️ join in fellow octopus I congratulate you getting them all to bed with two arms 🤣

OtterBe4 · 01/06/2020 20:45

@wolf
The thread was for ppl with big families not for lecturing because you don’t like it, off you go.

Wolfgirrl · 01/06/2020 20:46

Off I go? 😂😂

Well there was a lot of talk about the opinions of others, so that opened the thread up IMO.

gracex4 · 01/06/2020 20:47

@OtterBe4 where did you just come from 🤣

OP posts:
Mesmeri · 01/06/2020 20:48

Congratulations to you too EsmaeDe and OP for your existing AND imminent arrivals!

Yeah, I get your point, Wolfgirrl (cool name by the way!) but I actually think mine IS valid too!

gracex4 · 01/06/2020 20:49

Have any of you lost holidays during covid-19

OP posts:
gracex4 · 01/06/2020 20:50

I'm going to have to change my name now aren't I gracex5 🤣

Wolfgirrl · 01/06/2020 20:50

Mesmeri if you recycle, dont take aeroplanes etc that's great. But it is a mere second in time, the effects of you having a large family will exist for hundreds if not thousands of years after your life. So no amount of taking public transport etc can negate that really.

Mesmeri · 01/06/2020 20:51

Ha ha gracex4 it's a thrill isn't it!! If I got a euro for every time I said "indoor voices now, PLEASE don't wake the baby...."

OtterBe4 · 01/06/2020 20:51

@gracex4
I commented earlier I have 4DC, don’t know why ppl come in and start lecturing oh the environment, what do you want us to do? shove them back? they’re here now!!

EsmaeDe · 01/06/2020 20:52

@gracex4 we live part time in the UK, Australia and the USA. So not a holiday really but getting where we call home yes.We have been ‘stuck’ in the UK since the before of lockdown and not sure when we can fly back to OZ with the little ones so I’m going to give birth here 😞 which I didn’t want. What about you?

OtterBe4 · 01/06/2020 20:52

New name could be 5aSide?

EsmaeDe · 01/06/2020 20:53

Thankyou @Mesmeri

I’m really nervous for this one as we aren’t back home with family

EsmaeDe · 01/06/2020 20:54

😂😂 @OtterBe4 I’ve had some comments about my children’s names! So might add that to the list 😂

MsTSwift · 01/06/2020 20:55

Yes I struggle with the environmental impact too. And the having more children to support the generation before doesn’t make sense to me - the earth is finite if you took this to it’s logical conclusion it would be over crowded hell as each generation has to be bigger than the one before to support it. Sorry buzz kill but have been concerned about over population since I did it at school and a want my (2) kids to have a pleasant environment to live in not a degraded one.

Mesmeri · 01/06/2020 20:56

That's tough EsmaeDe I hope everything goes smoothly for you.

EsmaeDe · 01/06/2020 20:57

@Mesmeri Thankyou 😊 I have my man so I’m sure I’ll be fine. He’s brilliant through labour !!

Mesmeri · 01/06/2020 20:59

Ha ha yes I can imagine EsmaeDe he'll certainly know what to expect....

dementedma · 01/06/2020 21:00

I am one of 5, my sister has 5. I "only" have 3 but thats enough for me. Enjoy your family. Better to have 5 well raised, loved and cared for, than one spoilt or neglected. ( and yes, there are options in between)
