@BooBooButts are sandwich pickles crinkle cut? I bought a crinkle cut knife specifically to cut my FAVOURITE AND BEST MRS ELSWOOD HAIMISHA PICKLES but it's rubbish and they don't turn out very crinkly at all. Sad.

Yes! They're crinkle cut circles of delight. They're not salty and therefore not real pickles, but they're delicious.

Have you all been spreading propaganda for Heimishbara this whole time?

Still waiting for my cheque.

25milesfromhome · 22/07/2024 22:28

@EllaDisenchanted are we agents of Heimishbara?

💯 get paid in pickles. Nothing like heimishes and chopped liver 😋Crinkle cut are too sweet and a bit soggy. Pickles need to be crunchy!

why did mrs elswood make pickles? Because if she didn’t, no one else would…!

please groan. My dh makes this joke whenever we find mrs Elswood pickles here 😄

79Helene · 22/07/2024 23:06

Wait till they hear we're working for pickles not shekels.

Thought some of you might want to read Andrew Fox's letter about his first impressions of his visit to Israel this week.

He also met the President of Israel & saw all the evidence of Hamas' atrocities on 7th October 2023 personally too.

Here's the link:

Good Shabbos. I will be lighting in the Zechus of Omri Miran. His wife posts regularly; my heart breaks for her and their little children.

That's heartbreaking, @EllaDisenchanted. Hope their prayers are answered and Omri Miran and all hostages come home soon! 🙏

Shabbat Shalom to everyone!

I love saying that every Shabbat. 😍

It's a beautifully expressed prayer - and I'm not even religious! Having said that, I've a feeling visiting Israel will have a spiritual impact on me.

Although I'm a long way off being able to read Hebrew, I can recognise several of the Aleph-Bet in the image above. Only started on learning about the Nikud last night - ten vowels, five long and five short to remember! Dots, points and strokes!

You definitely have to approach Hebrew learning in a gradual way otherwise you'll be overwhelmed.

Experience so far: enjoyable, challenging and, yes, frustrating!

79Helene · 27/07/2024 19:08

Hello, good evening, bonsoir! Hope you're all well and for those of you who celebrate, having a peaceful Shabbat. X

Erev Tov ערב טוב in Hebrew . Or because it is motzai Shabbat (after shabbos), you would say gut voch ( good week in Yiddish).

just turned on my phone to the most awful news from the north 😞

79Helene · 27/07/2024 19:20

@EllaDisenchanted So sorry Ella. Keep safe.

Horrible news heard it on the news a wee while ago. It's terrifying where this is leading it just keeps getting worse.

On lighter news I'm about two weeks into the Yiddish course on Duolingo. It's slow going for me but I'm really enjoying it. Remember a few words from my grandmother but not many.

I wouldn't have got that one, @79Helene!

I know how to say good morning and goodnight though:

Boker tov
Layla tov

Definitely can't write either of those in Hebrew....yet! 🤣

בוקר טוב - good morning
לילה טוב - goodnight

you don’t really wish somebody good day but if you want to say have a great day you would say
אחלה יום

Are you using a Hebrew keyboard you downloaded?

Mine only lets me use English unless I change my default language which was interesting! Nowhere near ready for that! 🤣

Apologies that this is off topic. I mentioned in a previous post that one reason my Christian denomination annoyed the rest of the Church of England associated churches was our decision to ordain women. Today we celebrate the 50 year anniversary of doing so.

Churchwide celebrations planned around July 29 to mark 50 years of women’s ordination to priesthood

The priest at my church, who is a woman, gave her sermon yesterday on this milestone, and filled in a bit of the history. The idea was so controversial at the time that they had to find a retired Bishop to do the ordination. No one in active ministry would touch it for fear of their careers. When the first American woman Bishops attended the conference of the Anglican Communion that's held every three years in Lambeth, England, they were told to take off the hats that Bishops wear, as "only men are allowed to wear them".

Stay strong, sisters. The arc of history bends towards justice.
