I have signed petition.
What I want to know is why are there no demands on H@mas? It’s all Isreal has to do this and that.

Your relative is very articulate @EllaDisenchanted . I feel desolate today. I've just wandered over to The Independent website and read the comments under the article there. Such ignorance and glee. All done as a sop to his party. I can't wait for Labour to leave power. Oy, we have another 4 years of them destroying our economy further and encouraging the isolation and persecution of British Jewry.

She is indeed ❤I miss her!

G-d has a plan.

I'm cooking my Rosh Hashana food, hopefully Iran can stick their beaks out this year so none of it will burn 😅

Shana Tova Umetuka. May we have a year of peace and healing for all, and all our people home.

I have been a really active member of the Labour Party for years and am generally a big advocate of the ‘better to be inside a tent pissing out then outside pissing in’ but this is a real blow I just don’t think I can get over.

It was a red line for me. You know that if you are a member of Jewish Labour Movement you can still vote in internal elections?
I left over Corbyn's antisemitism and joined JLM & stayed a JLM member even when I rejoined Labour when Starmer was elected (I mean that doesn't look such a good outcome now, but hey?).

YesHesAPlonker · 22/09/2025 14:30

I too (non Jewish) left the LP over Corbyn's AS. I had a brief moment of hope when Starmer was elected leader and then won the election.

That hope has died - the political left seems totally morally bankrupt to me these days 😞. An ex Labour party local Jewish friend has announced she is making aliyah with her family. She would rather face rockets than the AS they have been facing here since Oct7.

I just felt sick when I heard Starmer's announcement. Now I'm angry.

Surely a political party, voted in, should represent the views / wishes of the population it represents.

What is the size of the Palestinian population in the UK ? is it really that large.
I know the Jewish population in the UK has decreased over the years ( I even had the cheek to start a thread asking where you have all gone, as I realised the local Synagogue where I grew up had closed down )

quantumbutterfly · 24/09/2025 15:09

Your article sums up my thoughts.
It used to be said (in England at least) that the two topics not to be brought up in polite society were religion and politics, now they are one topic at the heart of massive divisions here. We have become complacent that peace comes without effort.
The motto of our Royal Navy is apparently 'Si vis pacem, para bellum', which I'm told translates as 'if you want peace prepare for war.' In the UK we seem to have been set to fighting among ourselves.

MissConductUS · 30/09/2025 22:58

Here’s an interesting discussion on why Qatar is pushing Hamas to accept Trump’s peace plan.

https://www.wsj.com/opinion/why-qatar-changed-course-on-hamas-20dff709?st=umYozS&reflink=desktopwebshare_permalink

I don’t think I’ll ever understand the politics in the Middle East completely.

BeretInParis · 01/10/2025 23:01

Sounds like Qatari leaders want to live and don’t fancy being assassinated. Their time of playing a double game (facilitating negotiations between Hamas and Israel while providing succour to Hamas) is hopefully coming to an end. They’ll still continue funding Islamic ideology’s rise in western nations though.

LeaningOnTheEverlastingArms · 02/10/2025 12:26

Manchester 😢😢😢
Thinking of you all 🙏🏻

Diamond82 · 02/10/2025 12:35

yes sending my love and strength to everyone in Manchester. I can’t believe this is our reality 💔

SharonEllis · 02/10/2025 12:40

Absolutely devastating news, I'm so sorry. Sending love & strength.

VerityUnreasonble · 02/10/2025 12:52

No words today. It's just so so sad.

QuietlyBy · 02/10/2025 12:59

Shoulder to shoulder with British Jews. Always.

Comedycook · 02/10/2025 13:10

Devastated

BooBooButts · 02/10/2025 13:13

Beyond devastated and angry to hear about Manchester. Absolutely heartbroken to once again be waiting to hear if my friends in the area are ok.

EdithStourton · 02/10/2025 13:51

I'm so, so sorry.
This is utterly appalling.
Not surprising, though, given the tacit acceptance of antisemitism that has become increasingly normalised.

thisiswheretheseagullfliesaway · 02/10/2025 13:59

Just a reminder you are not alone.

May their memory be a blessing.

stomachamelon · 02/10/2025 14:51

My heart is breaking. And I know filming is a ‘thing’ but I have seen things today I hoped I would never have to see. With no warning.

Sending love to all. May their memory be a blessing.
