@MissConductUS

We're not having much of a summer here in England. Hope it's warmer & sunnier where you are!

I'm craving sunshine & the outdoors.

DuskyBlueDepartingLight · 19/07/2024 12:32

@DownNative

Are you through your busy period now?

Hope your work weekend runs smoothly!

Our busy period goes up and down, so isn't busy when you expect it! 🙈

Thank you! My working weekends usually go smoothly which also allows me time to think about terrorism, security and counter-terrorism while working! 🤣

And Hebrew letters!

MissConductUS · 20/07/2024 11:36

I hope you're all having a peaceful Shabbat.

I saw this last night in the WSJ about how the military and diplomatic situation in the Gaza conflict has changed for the better.

How Israel Turned the Tide in Rafah - Hamas miscalculated when it expected the Jewish state to yield to pressure from allies to stop short, Foreign Minister Israel Katz says.

So a bit of good news to start the weekend.

DownNative · 20/07/2024 20:42

Thanks for sharing that article, @MissConductUS!

My view of successful ceasefires and political settlements is they work once the enemy is near defeat or is defeated. Until then, they retain attacking capability and have no reason to enter negotiations in good faith. Since 1998, the Anglosphere has been sold and bought into the propaganda of the peace process which deliberately excludes the role played by security forces in facilitating the process itself.

People prefer a nice, neat story that's also got a mythical appeal. They reject the actual reality for that.

A successful military response with Hamas is a vitally important part of trying to create long term stability in the MER. That sends a message to Hezbollah, Houthis, Iraqi & Syrian militias and, of course, Iran who also should be economically sanctioned by the West Big time.

None of the tinkering round the edges and moving the rug to hide certain things from view. Out of sight, out of mind isn't a strategy.

Anyway, I enjoyed reading the article! 👌

@DownNative You always bring such an interesting and informed perspective to this dreadfully emotional and complex problem. You and @MissConductUS and several others make me feel seen, if you know what I mean. Very much appreciated this Shabbat.

Humdingerydoo · 20/07/2024 20:59

Only saw that thread on site stuff after reading about it here - I'm glad they reversed the decision. Absolutely ridiculous.

I think what makes the difference is I can see things from the perspective of people in Israel with some experience of a different type of conflict in there.

That and I understand how peace processes really work versus the mythologising that envelopes them. Here, I call ours Peace Process™ as its become something so sacrosanct you're not supposed to criticise it. That's unhealthy and, imo, fear of conflict also leads to conflict in future as it stifles real talk, real politik.

@MissConductUS knows what she's talking about with war and various issues related to them. Always comes with interesting reading material!

But, yes, I get what you're trying to say! And it's an honour to show your people you're not alone. 👌 🎗

Does anyone know where all the outrage about Morocco, who occupy most of Western Sahara, being allowed to co-host the World Cup in 2030 is? I'm assuming there must be outrage since they're currently trying to ban Israel from participating in FIFA. I just can't seem to find any evidence of this outrage against Morocco. Very strange.

I think it's been filed in the same place as the outrage about Russia bombing a children's hospital in Ukraine.

Well I had some very silly billies trying to compare Judaism to Jedi'ism yesterday, if you think you haven't seen it all yet. And then when I (even as an atheist) pointed out they're not remotely comparable I got called an "idiot" and something about me trying to give Judaism special status and shut down the conversation as usual. Which I 100% guarantee wouldn't have happened if I hadn't disclosed I was Jewish. And this wasn't even on CITME.

I'm delurking as haven't been on the site for a few days and saw references to the Mumsnet Stuff thread. I am agog. I feel like the world has turned upside down. Justine's resolutely neutral language indicates clearly just how much MN doesn't 'get it' (definitely) and sympathises with many of the posts on CITME (possibly). With that framing, MN's treatment of posts/posters in that board makes sense. If similarly inaccurate/ racist language was used against other minorities they simply wouldn't be allowed to stand. Perhaps I, too, must seek out other areas of the internet where I am respected.

To be fair, Judaism and Jedi'ism have quite a few similarities.

Like how they both start with J, consist of seven letters and end with 'ism'. So there's obviously a lot to unpack there.

People are truly ridiculous

Here is your guide to everything Jewish about the "Star Wars" films from Watto to far-right conspiracies to the Jewish cast and crew.

That Lancet letter thing - letters sent in by readers don't have rigorous standards applied to them at all.

Articles absolutely do which is very, very detailed plus extensive.

Letters? See 👇 🤦‍♂️

Now hang on just a minute, everybody knows that nine months of lukewarm takes on the internet and the Electronic Intifada trumps a lifetime of experience and generations of history and culture. Nothing ridiculous about that whatsoever, they're clearly identical, case closed.

MissConductUS · 21/07/2024 16:49

Jedi'ism? As in, "These are not the Chosen People you're looking for."? 😂

I'm skeptical that mind tricks would work on many of the people on the CIME board.

0palfruitsalad74 · 21/07/2024 19:25

Wasn't there a year when more people put Jedi than any other religion on their census return?*

79Helene · 21/07/2024 23:02

That's the same bloke that invaded this board a few months ago isn't it? Corbyn lover IIRC. I've just seen a post even worse than his, which is saying something.
