Anyone know of other online forums where Jewish women can just have a chat (both practising and non-practising)?

Would be nice!

Latest on the shitstorm on mumsnet board...warzones are not good places for young people to test their boundaries..who knew?

I now only pop in there to look at what's most recently posted and by whom.

I come here & fwr for thoughtful posts, recipes and humour (and the germy corbin pics of course). @MissConductUS you were right about gooseberries, they are very juicy.

I may reduce them down to incorporate them into cakemix, otherwise its crumble or fruity flapjack, they're very acidic.

Make gooseberry fool, the sugar and cream takes the edge off the acidity. Not the healthiest of desserts but very delicious. You can apparently replace some cream with yoghurt but I'm not sure why you would.

79Helene · 18/07/2024 19:26

@Towerofsong Yup, that thread today is disgusting, if MN continue to accommodate these antisemites then there's going to be no Jewish women left on here. So many posters making ridiculous (and obvious) contortions to make it look like they aren't antisemitic just to evade a ban, when it's obvious they are just here for the Jew-bashing.

I feel sad at the "Advertising Israeli Birthright" thread in Site Stuff and how the advert was initially blocked just as easily as that. I am glad that Mumsnet removed the block after some consideration but I wish it wasn't like this.

I'm not Jewish myself, just married to a Jewish man but I'd be very interested in an online space to chat that's free of antisemitism. Or if that's apparently so difficult to define for some people then I'd love a space free of any discussion where someone feels the need to say "it's not antisemitism when I say..."

I have always enjoyed reading Mumsnet but coming across this stuff everywhere (not just the CITME boards) is hard. I don't really come here for debate. I like the fun stuff. But I end up either getting dragged into debate or getting angry reading it.

I currently have no online spaces or real life spaces where I can go and not have to hold my breath dreading what someone is going to come out with.

I'm glad there's this little corner of Mumsnet of course but somewhere even more active would be just lovely.

stonecutter · 18/07/2024 19:33

Sorry crossposted with @79Helene but yes exactly what you said!

Yes, I made that post before I saw MN had reneged on their decision. But to be honest it doesn't change the fact they have been platforming a good number of antisemites for some time now, folk who would probably be getting their collar felt if they were behaving like this IRL spaces.

A lot of Jewish posters don't know about JMnetters but there's already enough racist lurkers on here so can't exactly advertise the fact this board is here.

I don't know of anywhere but please don't go away! I feel like this little corner is the best bit about MN apart from the Litter Tray. Although I have to say that MN no longer holds the appeal that it used to for me. The site stuff thread was horrible, like an overspill from CITME. It's good that Justine intervened to reverse the decision but the fact that it was made in the first place says it all.

DownNative · 18/07/2024 20:12

I echo what @0palfruitsalad74 said - don't let them drive you guys away!

Personally, I've learned more about Israel, Jewish history, customs and begun learning what Hebrew I can. Planning to visit Israel as well on my solo travels!

It can be hard to see the positive effects you all have on people, but it is happening! I'm not the first or the last example. 👍

79Helene · 18/07/2024 20:14

@0palfruitsalad74 Not going away...yet! That thread and Mumsnet's initial response just really fucked me off earlier. Because it wasn't really about Israel (which we all have different opinions on anyway), it was just to goad Jews and undermine why Jews need Israel to exist. The thread should have been taken down IMO.

It's mildly amusing how so many people have a problem with Israel existing yet don't see the irony they are actually 'selling' Israel to us. I still can't get my head round the fact over 2000 French Jews have applied in the last week to emigrate there.

@DownNative so have I! I think it's fair to say that my dad failed in that aspect of our upbringing. Although in fairness to him, in a sense I think it was deliberate, ie in a don't tell people sort of way (refugee family from Germany).

@79Helene phew! That figure about French Jews is shocking. France has real problems there from what I see.

If you’re on Reddit r/jewish often has people posting small discords based on hobbies and what not, I joined a DnD one a while ago!

Not on Reddit but DH used to be on it and some of the comments he showed me were 😱Although to be fair a lot of that was on football posts. Whenever I look at it the interface feels too clunky and not easy to navigate and I don't have the patience to stick with it

I'll have a look at the Jewish 'bit' though - sorry I have no idea about Reddit terminology 😂Do users turn up and shout 'Anti-Zionism isn't antisemitism'?

Bowib · 18/07/2024 20:38

No most of the Jewish subs are incredibly well moderated! I’m in a couple and they never make me do the “wince” (my face reading the site stuff thread 😬)

79Helene · 18/07/2024 20:40

Oh I'll have a look then.

Yes, I feel like I'm permanently in "brace" position opening up threads on here now!

OP posts:
Bowib · 18/07/2024 20:46

There’s def some awful subreddits but I’m just not subscribed to them so they don’t exist on my app, my Reddit app is a tranquil space of Jewish subs, baking and cooking subs, vegetable growing subs and composting subs!

Yes, I was gobsmacked when I saw the ad had been initially blocked simply because someone stamped their feet. And they got the ad due to their own Google searches too! 🤦‍♂️

Sanity prevailed in the end, but it shouldn't have got to that stage.

I very much understand the feeling & psychology of a country being more attractive the more some openly declare they want it to cease to exist. Had it for years with Republicans wanting Northern Ireland to cease to exist which only made me identify with it more. So I get Jewish people identifying more and more with Israel in the face of rising antisemitism.

The level of antisemitism also makes me want to visit Israel to see the country and people for myself. Although it was something else more personal that really pushed me over the edge to saying, "Fuck it....war or no war, I'm going to Israel soon! And I'm not waiting until the war is over either!".

I've seen the difference it makes to Jewish people in various places online, so it's an honour to support them as & when I can. 👍

DuskyBlueDepartingLight · 18/07/2024 22:00

@MissConductUS Sorry - I didn't mean to tag you Miss Conduct, my phone won't let me delete it for some reason. Hi, hope you're well! :)

It wasn't just the site stuff thread today, also came across an outright conspiracy theory. They're not even bothering to hide it anymore. Simply pure antisemitism.

It can't be ignorance with the frequent posters on CITME. They've had explanation after explanation for 9 months, not to mention all the deletions for hate speech.

Don't let the bastards grind you down. Easier said than done sometimes, but thanks to everyone who counters the lies.

EdithStourton · 18/07/2024 22:29

I saw it when it started but perhaps fortunately I was otherwise occupied for much of the day. I could see exactly where it was going to go and it was bloody depressing.

I think there are some local Jewish FB pages. I know a friend in N London is on one.

VerityUnreasonble · 18/07/2024 23:37

There are some lovely Jew-book Facebook spaces, some are hobby based, some are more general. Lots are quite USA based (I don't hold that against them). You may know from some of my other posts I'm a bit of a nerd so I can share this - Star Trek Jewposting would be an example. I go hide out in them when other places are particularly awful.

Hi @DuskyBlueDepartingLight, I'm doing well, thanks for asking. How are you?

Shalom

I don’t even get why the site stuff thread isn’t closed for posts at this point, Justine has answered now it’s just yet another citme spill out, it’s massively putting me off mumsnet tbh, as it’s not just contained to a section you can hide, like citme, the hate always spills out.

quantumbutterfly · 19/07/2024 11:20

We can't change the past, we have to move forward from where we are.
Hope you can have a peaceful sabbath.

100% - that thread should definitely be closed for replies now since Justine has posted.

Depressing to see more crap in it although a few have posted to push back against it which is welcome!

But I hope you all have a good Shabbat and enjoy yourselves away from MN this weekend.

I work every weekend, so that's how I find my bit of peace! 😂
