This is good.
Though he'll blame it on some Jewish / Zionist conspiracy because, you know, we control the media, the banks, the world.... (if only).

Is this thread still going? It keeps looking like there are new messages but whichever way I sort it I can't see any last July 2024...

SpuytenDuyvil · 02/07/2025 18:49

@Towerofsong I can see all the posts, 903 of them. The last one before yours at 18:12 was from MissConductUS at the same time.

Towerofsong · 02/07/2025 20:26

Brilliant, that worked! I can see it now and have caught up on the last couple of weeks, including our military attaché's updates 😀

Gingergran and Ellaadisenchanted I hope you have recovered from the last couple of weeks.

It was certainly tense and I was very happy my daughter evacuated herself plus GC to a friend's apartment with a proper mamad.

Edited

So the iron beam was apparently deployed against drones against Hezbollah. I mean you could call it a space laser. But me and DS think it's basically a lightsaber... 😅They think we keep the death star under buildings in Tel Aviv (explains the lack of parking), so I guess Israel building a lightsaber makes sense...
@BeretInParis if we control the media, why do we do such a poor job?! Yet to find a decent answer to this 😆

all good, thanks :) we had a houthi missile the other night, got the pre-warning and were waiting to see if the actual siren would go in our area, and then our local news group accidentally wrote it was from Iran... Panic stations! DH started lifting the window out of the frame in the safe room, I started running around (slightly panicked) going the ceasefire is over! the ceasefire is over!, and then the news group went oops, sorry, we meant houthis 😬🙄 ... Window remained in place (he hadn't got it out yet), blood pressure dropped back down... and then the siren went off. Was an anticlimax by that point!

Glad to hear your daughter and GC went to a friend with a Mamad.

Well I didn't hear about the death star, but I did see a report that Iran said a building in Tel Aviv was fair game for a missile strike as Israel keeps submarines under it 🤯.

I mean, usually I see carparks under buildings in Tel Aviv, but whatever ....

I also want to know why I'm not rich when my people control the banks!

BeretInParis · 03/07/2025 18:07

I know. I really wish we did control the banks, media and world because we'd all be much more secure physically and financially. But ho hum, back to work I go...

Are all mamad windows meant to be lifted off to leave only the outer metal one? I was there several years and never realised!

Great work by your news team!

Like when Home Front Command sent everyone a message a few days after October 7th saying be prepared with supplies to spend 2 days in your mamad. Everyone went panic shopping. And then they said "
'Oops, sorry, this was just good general advice, not an immediate instruction.' 🙄

EllaDisenchanted · 03/07/2025 20:51

no - there are two types of mamad windows: the swing door windows are supposed to be left in (they just spiderweb if there is a hit), the sliding windows have to be taken out of the frame and out the room. I don't think it's that well known tbh. We only found out recently, when reminders went out. this is the homefront command video about it.

We need to restock our supplies, we've spent so much time in there we've munched through a lot of stuff.

I went panic shopping after October 7th, it was very stressful, as we didn't have a car, there were almost no buses running, where we are there are no makolets (don't ask), and to get out of our area there is a very very long road with no buildings and no shelter, and we were still under rocket fire, so it was quite stressful to walk. I hitched a lift with a random couple I'd never met from the neighbourhood, and bought whatever I could. I remembered covid well, so made sure to buy a big multipack of toilet roll. Well I thought I did, turned out I actually bought paper towels🙃

The news group makes me laugh. They are obviously partisan to one local political group, and everything the current mayor does they praise and everything the last mayor did was met with major side-eye from them 😅

Pleased to see Mumsnet’s explanation on why they have had to remove threads about Gaza. Hope it continues.

stonecutter · 08/07/2025 19:55

I am pleased to see what they wrote as well. I’m glad they were clearly acknowledging that antisemitism is present on those threads.

Personally I do think the site would benefit from stricter rules about where things can be posted eg no more “posting for traffic” on AIBU. I think it would be better if AIBU was only for describing a scenario you’re involved in that you may or may not have been unreasonable in.

I’d like to see all the Israel/Gaza threads moved over to CITME automatically as at least people can choose when to read CITME whereas it popping up everywhere is something that I do find hard.

I’ve been wondering a lot lately about how many of the people online (I’m not specifically referring to on MN) parroting things they’ve read on TikTok could actually find any of these places (Iran, Israel etc) on a map.

I obviously don’t mean everyone and I don’t mean that as a throwaway insult of anyone’s intelligence. Not that many years ago I knew little of the Middle East. I think it wasn’t that long ago politics was boring to most and a large large number of people (majority dare I say) knew very little of specifically the history of the Middle East.

It worries me how well they’re doing at the propaganda side of things. People are just believing any random statistics they see reposted on Facebook without any sources and repeating them.

It’s like those videos where protesters were asked “which river, which sea?” and so so many could not answer.

I genuinely think a lot of people have never read anything about it other than what they see on TikTok which seems to just be “Jews turned up one day and killed everyone and stole their land while doing their evil laughs”.

I really wish blatantly untrue things like “millions of Gazans killed” and “all buildings in Gaza destroyed” wouldn’t be allowed to be left up as I think it’s extremely damaging. There’s a good number of people who will accept it unquestioningly.

However I also accept that’s an unreasonable ask and MN can’t get into being strict fact checkers for every post they see - especially with such a complicated situation.

I have tried, before, to actually argue some of the facts - not in the hope of educating the person I’m arguing with but anyone reading who hasn’t yet developed an opinion - but it’s so draining and time consuming and feels pointless. The time spent constructing a polished post very carefully and with sources is time I could be with my family or relaxing or being productive.

Thinking of everyone here and sending strength in these times.

Where is the post please?

EllaDisenchanted · 16/07/2025 14:29

Anyone been following what is happening with the Druze in Suwayda? Very very disturbing 😳

gingergran · 16/07/2025 15:26

It’s very disturbing but sadly the protesting masses will be ignoring this as it doesn’t serve their interests.

BeretInParis · 17/07/2025 06:53

Unsurprisingly the BBC is framing Israeli involvement as aggression and border protection. The mainstream reporting is very opaque.

MissConductUS · 22/07/2025 20:22

This took a while, but it's not a bad result.

Columbia University disciplines at least 70 students who took part in campus protests - The crackdown ranges from probation to degree revocations and expulsions.

Most of the students involved got a two year suspension, which will be on their academic record and obvious on their CV. Most will probably try to transfer to another university, but that won't be easy. Few will want a known troublemaker.

Some of the delay was due to the fact that the student discipline process had to be changed. It was run by the faculty senate, which refused to discipline anyone related to the protests, to the Provost's office. That was a change that the Trump administration demanded before they would negotiate any restoration of funding to Columbia.

I read a little about this yesterday. Thanks for posting this particular link. It’s ’interesting’ that the featured quote from Colombia is about discipline rather than safety, racism, inclusivity, etc., isn’t it?!
