@MissConductUS Interesting to me that neither Iran nor Israel have confirmed the ceasefire. Do you think Trump has announced it to force their hand and present them with a fait accompli? It all seems too quick and straightforward for the cynic I have become

He just thinks he's the boss of the world and everyone has to comply. I think he did all this to distract from the sickening and shocking things that are happening domestically here. He wants to be a war president because he thinks it will give him global stature

It is a good question as to why Israel hasn’t.

Very heavy strikes by the IAF tonight. They hit the Israel clock (!)- maybe this is their getting in the last targets before they agree to ceasefire? No change to home front command as yet. I did see somewhere that netanyahu said they were close to achieving their two goals, but can’t remember where. I’m not counting any chickens (or packing any lunch bags) but I do thing there’s a strong possibility they could agree.

Spoke far too soon. Just had a pre alert and now up and waiting to see if we get missiles in our area.

I think Iran is making the most of the time before the Trump ceasefire is due to start. I’m only calling it that because so far Iran has said there is no ceasefire and Israel has said nothing. We have had sirens on and off for the past hour so had decamped to the safe room and given up trying to to sleep. Can hear booms in the distance.

We’re ok thanks ginger, has 4 lots of pre alerts but no sirens yet. Heard booms with the last round. Kids are awake and hyper and exhausted 😩

thank Gd I fell asleep a couple of hours ago after being up most of the night. I do not know how DH is working with all the kids around him but he is an angel.

I just heard the BBC report that Israel has reported those Iranian missile attacks and their intention to respond.

This could be down to a breakdown in command and control in Iran. We'll see. May Gd protect you.

The ceasefire seems to be holding today. They're often messy during the transition.

I have two, a 23-year-old daughter who married an Army officer last year when she graduated from uni, and a 25-year-old son who is still single.

My daughter and her husband were high school sweethearts, so we were fine with it despite her age. Her husband is a fine young man with a very promising future.

one of DH’s relatives lives with us as well long term (late teens) , but she’s planning to move out after the summer, when she starts her national service (Sherut leumi), and only come home on weekends.

My goodness, that does sound like a busy house! I remember when mine were those ages. It's a trial at times! You must do a lot of cooking to keep them all fed. The Israeli national service program sounds very interesting. Do they limit how many young people can select that option to make sure there are enough of them serving in the IDF?

My son-in-law has his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering, and the Army is paying for him to get a master's degree in computer science, so they're living at his university now. She has a data science degree and a fully remote job doing data analytics projects for the government. They are a really cute couple, too. 😍

Electrical engineering is very impressive! They’d fit right in in Tel Aviv with those degrees 😄
yes I do a fair amount of cooking. I think half my chat in Jewish mumsnetters is about food 🥗I don’t know a huge amount about sherut leumi, except that it was originally set up as a national service alternative for religious girls. I believe they were exempt from the army anyway? The program has expanded since then.
