@MissConductUS

It really made me laugh in the run-up to the US election when the anti-Israel brigade thought Trump would be supporting them 😂🤦🏻‍♀️

I didn't see that. I thought the anti-Israel brigade was all in for Kamala.

Obviously, they didn't bother to familiarize themselves with Trump's family or inner circle.

I believe he made good use of his daughter Tiffany's Lebanese FIL to try and win over the anti-Israel brigade! Plus that speech he gave where he said he loves Muslims, and despite everything he has said and done in the past to prove the opposite is true, people decided to believe him?!

Anyway, good luck to them all! I suspect they'll need it.

stomachamelon · 29/01/2025 21:53

@MissConductUS I am pleased that is happening and sincerely hope it's echoed in the UK.

MissConductUS · 30/01/2025 00:42

@stomachamelon, I hope so too, but am not holding my breath for the current government to follow Trump’s example.

I’d love to be a fly on the wall when those students explain to mum and dad that they’re not going to be able to finish that insanely expensive degree program at Columbia, NYU or UCLA, so it’s money down the drain.

BooBooButts · 30/01/2025 08:30

I wonder what Hamas (or is it their friends at PIJ?) are trying to say here with the map of Israel and the Palestinian Territories all in one? Obviously it couldn't possibly be a physical representation of what "from the river to the sea" would look like because we've been assured many, many times that they don't want the destruction of Israel.

Absolute clowns 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡

Infuriating watching the footage on the BBC, still referring to the terrorist prisoners as women and children. No mention of the actual child hostages held in Gaza.

stomachamelon · 30/01/2025 18:37

I still remain as angry as ever with the Red Cross and their side show of shame. Absolutely useless shower of ..........

gingergran · 31/01/2025 12:14

Tomorrow’s list of hostages to be released includes Yarden Bibas but not his wife or children. Can’t help thinking the worst.

I know 😟They are so cruelly holding out the hope that they might still be alive. Cruel either way, but that is the absolute core of Hamas behaviour isn't it? just sheer cruelty.

EdithStourton · 31/01/2025 12:58

Anyone humane would let the family know if Shiri and the children were alive or dead.

But then, anyone humane wouldn't have taken them hostage in the first place. Hamas's behaviour is, sadly, no surprise at all.

MissConductUS · 31/01/2025 14:13

Here's coverage of how Hamas is manipulating the hostage release process from the WSJ. The link will bypass the paywall.

Hamas Turns Hostage Releases Into a Humiliating Spectacle for Israel - Increasingly theatrical and threatening events have angered Israel and put a cease-fire deal at risk

It's not a smart move. It's like they are daring Israel to break the ceasefire agreement. If that happens, Hamas is still at a huge disadvantage militarily. Israel would start targeting their leadership again.

Hamas has a history of making strategic miscalculations like this.

They will push Israel until they have no choice but to attack. Then the world will say that Israel broke the ceasefire.
I’m thinking of Shiri and her two babies every day 🙏🏼

AIBU has reached the "send all the Jews to the US" part of the evening 🤦🏻‍♀️ ARGH!

Chalicefromthepalace · 08/02/2025 18:21

Just wanted to express solidarity with you all. I’m not Jewish or Israeli but my heart breaks seeing the condition of the recently released hostages and for the hostages still being held and their families.
I just cannot understand why more governments aren’t condemning Hamas and demanding the release of the remaining hostages. The Red Cross and Amnesty have been shocking too.

Diamond82 · 08/02/2025 19:10

the news broadcasts of the Palestinians in the street with their camera phones waiting for the show of a hostage release feels like some alternative reality every week. Have we seen anything like this before broadcast across the world? It is heartbreaking and extremely frightening at the same time. And yet the majority don’t seem to care.

Agreed. I also saw a child sitting towards the front, applauding as the cars drove in. What a fun family day out.

I'm sure there are plenty of people defending it on CITME but it's fucking gross.

It helps to feel that we are not alone. The world seems totally silent, apart from Trump - and that may be a very mixed blessing!

And as for the Red Cross, happily participating in the charade....

Amnesty have always been antisemtic so no surprises there.

I cried when i saw the state of the released hostages today and felt particularly awful for Eli Sharabi who didn’t know that his wife and two daughters were slaughtered on October 7.

heartbreaking 💔

SpuytenDuyvil · 08/02/2025 22:37

I think I feel more sick and sad now than since the first week after Oct. 7.

stomachamelon · 08/02/2025 22:42

Today was disgusting and it has made me teary all day. Really unsettling.
I see the Red Cross have finally piped up. Too little too late.

MarieDeGournay · 08/02/2025 22:43

Visiting to express my ongoing solidarity, and share your horror at the condition of the three hostages released today.

It was reported very honestly on the news reports that I saw, the shock was audible in the reporters' voices, and one news bulletin juxtaposed old photos of the men with today's to highlight their shocking condition.

Later in the evening I noticed a shift towards immediately following the report about the 'poor condition of the Israeli hostages' with the report that 'Seven of the released Palestinian prisoners needed hospital treatment.' like there was an equivalence.

I did a quick calculation, and that means that 100% of the returned Israelis were in poor condition, and 3.8% of the returned Palestinians.

There is a requirement under the Geneva Convention on the treatment of Prisoners of War - which of course is not the exact case here, so not technically applicable:
prisoners of war must at all times be protected, particularly against acts of violence or intimidation and against insults and public curiosity.' Art 13 .
But it should have been respected in spirit instead of turning the handing over of the hostages into a cynical poorly-controlled publicity stunt.

💙

EdithStourton · 08/02/2025 23:16

The men released today looked like Far East POWs in 1945.

I don't know how to express what I feel. I'm not often stuck for words, but their condition has really shocked me.

Another non-Jew expressing solidarity. I can't even look at CITME.
