Thank you to those who have taken the time to offer their support today. It means so much to me. The silence of many is very frightening. It's that silence that led to the holocaust.

I've genuinely been feeling so upset and down today, seeing those three emaciated hostages paraded in front of a crowd by terrorists before they were returned home (via their Red Cross uber service). How heartbreaking for Eli and Or to have lost their wives and in Eli's case, his daughters too. I simply can't imagine the mind fuck of the joy of release to be greeted by the worst news imaginable, all within moments of each other.

SharonEllis · 08/02/2025 23:58

Its been a devastating day in many ways. You have my resolute support and love.

EllaDisenchanted · 09/02/2025 09:43

Been crying on and off since last night when I turned on my phone and saw the pictures of the hostages. The mockery of Eli sharabi on that stage, just unspeakable.

the strong non Jewish voices I have read online condemning this (here, on x, and instagram) are the only bright spark. You matter more than you know.

thisiswheretheseagullfliesaway · 09/02/2025 10:52

Just popping in to say strength to you all. The scenes of the releases have been very jarring and the whole narrative round it appalling. As I said previously I am not Jewish but my paternal grandmother was as was my closest friend growing up. I feel a deep connection.

CITME is the usual I see. I've actually bit this morning I usually try to say off it but I'm in a bit of down time (my mum is seriously ill and I'm going into hospital for my hysterectomy on Wednesday) and am not suffering fools gladly at the moment.

Antisemitism isn't even thinly veiled on here anymore it's absolutely blatant. The world is a terrifying place at the moment.

MarieDeGournay · 09/02/2025 12:49

I don't post here often cos it's not my thread and I respect your space.

But that doesn't mean that my thoughts are not with you always, and I think, judging from other non-Jewish posters, that there is warm support for you in this cold and cruel time*. 💙
*perhaps 'this especially cold and cruel time' is more accurate.

Agree.

I am not Jewish but fiercely pro- Israel and standing with Jewish people since October 7th. Absolutely appalled by what has happened. On Holocaust memorial day me and another non-Jewish friend put up yellow ribbons around our town to remember the hostages and victims. You are not alone.

I agree, and I have been warmly welcomed here.

Putting on my former military hat, I wanted to say that Hamas' treatment of the hostages has obviously been barbaric, and the Geneva Conventions directly address the feeding of prisoners. While it might not apply here in a strictly legal sense, it does set the expectation for civilized treatment.

Article 26 - Food

The basic daily food rations shall be sufficient in quantity, quality and variety to keep prisoners of war in good health and to prevent loss of weight or the development of nutritional deficiencies. Account shall also be taken of the habitual diet of the prisoners.

stonecutter · 09/02/2025 18:36

I don't want to speak for Jewish posters but I've also been warmly welcomed here and I think it's a good thing for those who find this place and want to show support to do so.

The voices of hate are always the loudest and I think that speaking up to show our support - whether for the hostages, for Jewish people generally or even just in acknowledgment of the rising normalisation of antisemitism - does provide comfort at a time when the silence can feel deafening.

The Kanye stuff was awful. The thousands upon thousands of likes are terrifying. The number of people who have dismissed it is sadly not surprising but is frankly outrageous.

I think we should all be frightened of the minimising of Jewish suffering including the way Jewish people are not even being mentioned when speaking about the holocaust. I dread to even think what my grandchildren's grandchildren will be taught. It's such recent history and it's already being forgotten.

I think such lovely words as have shared would not come across as intrusive but would demonstrate that there are plenty of us who see what's happening and oppose it.

BeretInParis · 09/02/2025 21:00

Thank you again to those who've dropped into the thread to offer support. I'm really touched. Especially after the nitpicking on the Kanye thread. Including people who claim to be Jewish but are obviously not posting in good faith. (Forgive the pun!)

Visiting to express my ongoing solidarity, and share your horror at the condition of the three hostages released today.

It was reported very honestly on the news reports that I saw, the shock was audible in the reporters' voices, and one news bulletin juxtaposed old photos of the men with today's to highlight their shocking condition.

Later in the evening I noticed a shift towards immediately following the report about the 'poor condition of the Israeli hostages' with the report that 'Seven of the released Palestinian prisoners needed hospital treatment.' like there was an equivalence.

I did a quick calculation, and that means that 100% of the returned Israelis were in poor condition, and 3.8% of the returned Palestinians.

There is a requirement under the Geneva Convention on the treatment of Prisoners of War - which of course is not the exact case here, so not technically applicable:
prisoners of war must at all times be protected, particularly against acts of violence or intimidation and against insults and public curiosity.' Art 13 .
But it should have been respected in spirit instead of turning the handing over of the hostages into a cynical poorly-controlled publicity stunt.

💙

The crowd didn't look like there was a famine going on.

@BeretInParis I can't tell you how much this winds me up (which is probably the point)

noblegiraffe · 09/02/2025 23:33

I'm so sorry this all just seems to be getting worse. The Hitler salutes, Kanye's insanely antisemitic ravings that just seem to have been shrugged off, the circus around the hostage release, parading them for propaganda, the state of them, that poor man finding out about his family, what they did to him was so unbelievably cruel. And that bloody Labour MP in his WhatsApp group too, and people not mentioning the Jews on Holocaust Memorial Day.

I'm paying attention even if I'm not posting and am thinking of you all.

Oh dear God, that poor family.
I saw your post and went and looked... I hope it is just Hamas playing their evil games, but if it is true, it is heartbreaking.

gingergran · 18/02/2025 18:12

It will be true. Weeks ago there was ‘grave concern’ for their lives. Had they still been alive they would have been freed when the other women and children were released. The news is absolutely heartbreaking💔

I know what you say is true, but it is so hard to accept. All of it, but this is particularly hard 💔

Heartbreaking.

Anticipating the grief vultures descending with their pretend 'concern', 'sympathy' 'whataboutery'

It really sets me off.

I’ve already seen someone suggest it’s actually Israel to blame and not h group.

Towerofsong · 18/02/2025 21:00

Heartbroken.

I've been praying and wishing them alive for so long, lighting an extra candle each for Kfir and Ariel each Shabbat along with the extra candles for my own children and grandchild.

Hoping it is somehow more Hamas lies.

Their poor father, how can he recover from something like this? Or the entire family.

Those beautiful, beautiful children.... 💔💔💔
