Great news @SamVan x

lemons44 · 23/08/2025 19:35

How strict is everyone being with healthy eating? I am following a pregnant influencer on social media and she is so relaxed, eating McDonald’s whenever she craves it or various different unhealthy snacks, with no worries. I wish I could be more relaxed. I worry a lot about what I am eating constantly, if I’m having enough veggies or enough protein etc. I just want to relax a bit and not feel guilty if I have unhealthy food! I watch this woman’s videos with my mouth watering lol.

I also keep getting emotional around food due to hormones. I will be in the supermarket feeling like I want to cry because I just feel overwhelmed by all the food around me and can’t decide what to eat🤣

confused2025 · 23/08/2025 19:40

@SamVanthats amazing news x
@lemons44 I have been dreaming of McDonald’s but have avoided and trying to be good with some treats here and there. I’m not having any caffeine or any soft drinks. I’m basically just drinking a lot of water and some milk. Eating a lot of fruit, eating almonds and making sure I get protein. Things like eggs though that I normally ate are giving me the ick but am trying to eat them a few times a week. I have told my husband that after delivery he is to get me a McDonald’s straight away and I won’t take any excuses 😂

SamVan · 23/08/2025 19:45

@lemons44 @confused2025 thank you!

I ate McDonald’s yesterday (rare for me) because I was convinced it was going to be a a bad scam 😂 generally just let myself eat whatever I want within reason (fried chicken every alternate day and cakes when I want) but make sure to avoid processed food and eat more fish, veg, nuts and fruit. It’s easy cause I’m hungry all the time. Also, cause I’m on pred I’m having a lot of dairy for the calcium. I don’t think diet is make or break in pregnancy - so many people with bad nausea just eat bread and their babies do fine. I do relate to the indecision though! Especially now that we can’t eat raw food.. I feel like my main healthy food option is not off the table 😫

lemons44 · 23/08/2025 20:05

@SamVan@confused2025interestingly after transferring 5 previous embryos unsuccessfully, this FET was the one and only time we did the IVF superstition of eating McDonald’s fries after transfer! 🤣

I didn’t realise you needed more calcium on prednisolone @SamVan? I have been drinking a lot of milk anyway so that’s good.

I think the main bad food I have been craving is crisps. Especially beef transformers and spicy wotsits. I did crush some spicy wotsits on my salad the other day as if they were croutons 🙈 trying to just limit myself to one pack a day max but it is hard.

I’ve been feeling hungry all the time too @SamVani’ve been making a big tub of pasta salad for the fridge which is helping so I can just keep having little bowls of that in between meals to help steer me away for unhealthier snacks.

lemons44 · 23/08/2025 20:09

And very true @SamVani have seen stories of some ladies surviving on very little nutrition whilst having bad morning sickness!

SamVan · 23/08/2025 20:12

@lemons44 I’ve never had maccers after transfer - maybe that’s why it took us so many transfers 😂

prednisolone reduces your calcium absorption - risk of fractures is increased after taking it for just three months. I find it hard to take that much calcium so I’ve been adding a supplement. Have you started weaning off? I was told I’d start at 9 weeks but every clinic seems to have a different protocol.

healthy snacks prepared is defo the way to go. And such a good idea with the pasta! I’ve stocked up on yoghurt and nuts and bananas. My main craving is spicy food which is not ideal cause my stomach is still not feeling the best. 😬

lemons44 · 23/08/2025 20:23

@SamVanat one of my previous embryo transfers the doctor asked if I had any questions. I said ‘is it true I can’t have spicy food? Because for the last few FETS I have been eating only bland food’. The doctor, nurse and sonographer all just went silent and stared at me like I was absolutely mad 🙈🤣 for some reason I mistakenly thought you couldn’t eat food too spicy, which was hard as I LOVE spicy food. Have been eating lots of spicy food this time round 😊

I will be tapering from 10 weeks. I am on 4 tablets a day (20mg) and will go down to 3 a day for a week, 2 a day for a week and then 1 a day for a week.

It’s expensive but this pasta on Amazon is really nice and is made of chickpeas so has more protein than normal pasta. I’m enjoying it as I am a vegetarian so trying to get protein is harder for me. Think places like Aldi and Lidl sell similar

Hi everyone. I have had my first ever bfp and am 4 weeks. Sooooooo early. So it is hard to be excited at this stage. Tentatively hopeful and thankful to have reached a new milestone ofc but very much not bfp = baby of mindset. But all being well our due date will be early May next year. Tips on how to cope with the anxiety about the other shoe dropping welcome… thanks infertility!

SamVan · 24/08/2025 09:55

@lemons44 😂😂😂 that’s hilarious! Glad you’re enjoying your spice now! My clinic is used to my deranged questions so I’m sure they’ve heard it all before. That pasta looks great I’ve ordered! I need to get my protein up too. And also more fiber cause I keep getting both the c and the d 😭

I cant wait to be done with prednisolone. I’ve got one more round of intralipids too. I’m still not convinced they do anything and I think my issue was getting the right embryo but of course I’m too scared to stop now that it’s worked.

@magpie234 congratulations! Unfortunately I have no tips and was/am a nervous wreck. Tears everyday. It does get better after the first scan though when you see a heart beat and when you do extra betas. At least for me it provided temporary relief.

Archie46 · 24/08/2025 15:20

My wife and I have a private midwife, this is our second IVF baby. It’s the reassurance we need

lemons44 · 25/08/2025 20:23

My midwife rang today (had my booking appointment on Sat). She said as I am O- blood type that they need to test blood type of baby at the 12 week scan because if baby is O+ I need to have something called Anti D injections. It’s a long shot but has anybody else had this?

lemons44 · 25/08/2025 20:30

Gentle congrats @magpie234i agree with @SamVan I have no tips really. Just take each week at a time. We are all balls of anxiety in this group so you’re not alone x

Timetotryagain · 25/08/2025 21:22

@lemons44 yes its very common i wouldnt worry about it atall :D i had the i injections in my last pregnancy

magpie234 · 25/08/2025 21:50

@SamVan@lemons44 Thanks girls. Even just knowing I am not alone and am in good company with others who get it helps! Pleased to have found this thread :). I joined one in the general pregnancy group too but there seem to be a lot of people who got pregnant quickly and tbh I am not sure I am ready to read all that just yet so am sticking here for now!

My clinic rang today and I am booked in for a first early scan on 10th when I will hopefully be 6.5 weeks. They said it may be too early for a heartbeat but will mean they can hopefully rule out an ectopic before I potentially go on holiday with my family to Greece. Bit worried I should be cancelling that but the advice seems unclear. Has anyone else been on or got a holiday planned before the 12-week mark?

SamVan · 25/08/2025 21:53

@magpie234 going through infertility and ivf and lots of failures is so traumatizing. I can’t believe how many people told me they were pregnant on the first try with their first test. Meanwhile I think we will wait till 20 weeks to announce 😬 I heard heartbeat abdominally at 6+2 so 6.5 should be all good!

magpie234 · 25/08/2025 21:59

@SamVan Oh great! That must have been a relief. So hope things continue well for you. Same here… I am never planning to announce! Literally only when I (hopefully…) have a baby bump and see people will they find out unless they are close friends and family. My plan if I ever get this far is to announce the arrival with a reel on Instagram of our fertility journey leading up to it. I have been taking pictures and videos along the way. Really not interested in announcing… but am interested in helping others feel less alone and like there is no shame in this. I have found others bravely sharing so helpful so would love to be able to give back in that way one day.

Timetotryagain · 25/08/2025 22:21

@magpie234 yeah i was planning on sharing the photo of my letter board that i did that says like
Eggs retrieved 11
Fertilised 7
Etc etc
I agree, its nice when others have shared their journey it definitely made me feel less alone when we were going through our long fertility journey before our successfull pregnancy ❤

Congratulations btw :) i recognise your username from the ivf threads:D

magpie234 · 26/08/2025 06:11

@Timetotryagain Love that idea! That will make a cute pic too. Really just the thought of being yet another pregnancy/birth announcement on Insta for another person going through infertility makes me shudder so personally I would never do one without the context of what went into it for me. I get it is very personal but for me it is either that or nothing. Maybe I will change my mind and want nothing. Hopefully I will get a chance to find out!

Thanks! I recognise yours too. How are you getting on?

lemons44 · 26/08/2025 06:16

Thanks @Timetotryagain I have been doing some googling too and see how common it is so not worried any more 😊

Yes I'm AB- and have anti-d injections. You only need them post 12 weeks if you have any sort of bleeding, or routinely later in the pregnancy. I had a bleed at almost 14 weeks and had to tell the EPU that I needed the injection ASAP (it's within 36 hours ideally I think) so just worth bearing that in mind, as if I hadn't told them that I'm bot sure they'd have picked it up! But the injections itself very standard and no big deal. My husband is a positive blood type, I think they said they'll test for the babies blood type soon (I'm 15+2 now) so we know what's what but I have no issue getting the injections

Edited

@magpie234 I went on holiday to Italy for a few days when I was about 8 weeks, I was feeling pretty tired and nauseous so I definitely had to take it much easier than usual and carry snacks with me at all times, but it was absolutely fine! I wasnt concerned about flying, everything i have seen is it is absolutely fine esp short flights, it just felt a bit harder work than usual. Have a nice trip!

Hopeloveandkindness · 26/08/2025 08:37

Hi all had my reassurance scan and measuring 11 weeks 5 days so slightly ahead. Was amazing seeing the baby actually looking like a baby as my last scan I was only 7 weeks and seeing the baby moving on screen was something I won’t ever forget 🥰had his/her legs in frog pose too🥹 woke up this morning just blown away by what our bodies can do and I’m abit teary today . NHS scan is not until 5th sept and I go on holiday tomorrow to Spain so wanted to know all is ok before. Looking forward to relaxing for a week x

confused2025 · 26/08/2025 09:35

@Hopeloveandkindness Awwh this is so lovely to hear 🥰. Hope you have an amazing holiday. I’m away in 3 weeks and I am just so ready.

it sounds like everyone is doing well. I am getting so fed up on my bra hurting me so just purchased my first maternity bras but no idea if I got the right size. Also do you size up with maternity clothes I am definitely getting a very noticeable bump/beer belly

Timetotryagain · 26/08/2025 10:30

@confused2025 at the start of needing maternity clothes i was my normal size just in maternity and then by end of 2rd trimester i was one or two sizes up in maternity haha! Everything normal size was too tight on bump

@Hopeloveandkindness awwh thats amazing!!! So lovely! Cant wait till my next one now (and also terrified haha!)

@magpie234 yeah i totally get that, its almost less of a sting when you see that someone had struggled to conceive isnt it

@Orangewillow they sting though dont they those anti d injections haha! I was not expecting it 🤣

@lemons44 hopefully baby is negative too and you wont need them 🙏 they test in 2nd trimester i think
