IVF / ICSI August

I’ve looked for a thread for August but couldn’t find one? (Please feel free to correct me if I’m wrong)
We are starting a long protocol at the beginning of July ready for stims and EC in August. This is our first IVF, I’ve been infertile for 15 years due to complications during endo surgery so always knew IVF was my only option. I met my DH seven years ago and now we are ready to try our luck.

I suddenly feel quite anxious about the whole process although I’ve known it’s my only option for a long time, now I've finally actually looked into what's involved and people's experiences. I’ve had to loose 5st to get my bmi inside requirements which has been incredibly hard but I’m proud I got to this point.

I've got quite a complicated gynea history so preparing myself for a rocky ride, but I’m also thankful for my medical history because I’m already very used to those awful internal scans 🤣

@Trying4eva omg that's horrible! How sure are you it's lighter? In any case, sending hugs.

Thanks all for the kind messages and advice this forum is full of lovely people :) Took a little break for a few days to come to terms with the negative test result. Hoping everyone is doing ok whatever stage they are at, hoping for some great results for all of you.

@GLizzie88 im so so sorry to hear of your negative tests, i came back on hoping to see you had good news. Hope you’re doing as well as you can and taking care of yourself xx
@Trying4eva1 praying for you that it’s not a chemical and just a dodgy test try and keep positive for a blood test - this process is just so so brutal.

I’m on 13dpt now still neg tests and I’ve started my period. I’m Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask or post but I’m experiencing the worst cramps in my ovaries (similar to after EC) and the heaviest period I’ve had since I was a teenager! Has anyone experienced that before?

BakinABaby · 01/09/2024 09:00

@over30sclub I don’t remember how my ovaries felt, but I definitely had my heaviest period according to my memory after my last ec. My doctor said it’s normal because of all the medication.

LimeBird · 01/09/2024 09:45

Hi @over30sclub , sorry to hear you have had this too, I was calling it a monster period as it was so heavy and painful! 😣 So yes I think it might be normal for some of us, maybe it’s from all the drugs etc? Hope you can get a hot water bottle and some paracetamol!
I’ve also had 2 migraines in a row which I haven’t had in years, wondering if it’s from the oestrogen as I’m not allowed the combined pill due to migraines. No one seemed to ask about migraines in the ICSI process though.
Hope you feel better soon

LimeBird · 01/09/2024 09:50

@wishfulbean ah thank you, that’s really reassuring that your review was helpful. I am not sure if they’ll just review the cycle, or discuss next steps too? Hoping for a bit of both. We are hoping to try another cycle, just need to find out their thoughts on how this one went and also need to find out the dreaded price tag! As we’ll have to go private now. Then we can decide.
Keeping everything crossed for your eggs today! I hope you get a good update 🤞🏼
Hope everyone is doing ok this weekend. I have my mum visiting which has helped cheer me up!

Zeeha · 01/09/2024 10:16

@Trying4eva1 please try not to worry. Are the conditions the same at testing, such as how long you held or did you maybe drink more before bed? I've had some little bits of brown discharge the past couple of days but the clinic said it can be normal and brown is old blood, where as they'd be worried if it was red, bigger quantities or if I had other symptoms such as painful cramping. Also what type of test are you using in your photo from before? I don't recognise it!

It's my official test day today so I've used the Clearblue test given by the clinic this morning and it's positive. I'm so anxious about something going wrong even now, especially in these very early days. I'm trying to keep my mind active and remember that statistically there's more chance of success than failure by this stage. The brown discharge does concern me though as I haven't had this in a pregnancy before. The clinic did advise I need to stop using the pessary applicators as I may have aggrievated by cervix putting them in too far 🤦

GLizzie88 · 01/09/2024 10:59

Thank you for the messages everyone. We have to wait 6 weeks to see a dr just because of the wait! But we're now planning to be away around then as it's our only time to actually get on holiday this year after cancelling our original holiday to do this. So i'm estimating we may miss that cycle too. But we definitely need some down time.
@Trying4eva1 Yes it was our first try. The hospital all seemed so positive, but I don't know if they're like that with everyone? We certainly had our hopes up too much. I'm so so sorry to see your result too. It really is heartbreaking.
@LimeBird sorry you've been feeling rubbish, I've been headachy for about a week, the progesterone is the worst bit I think!!
@over30sclub my cramps were definitely worse.

GLizzie88 · 01/09/2024 11:00

Congratulations @Zeeha at least you've had some good news! It all sounds really positive for you with this one, best of luck!

Trying4eva1 · 01/09/2024 11:59

It was the same test and same conditions. I’m going to do another one tomorrow morning to see what it looks like but not holding out much Hope. Pretty devastated. Pleased to hear you’re good news though.

GLizzie88 · 01/09/2024 12:28

@Trying4eva1 it's so devastating. I don't think you can comprehend quite how hard it is without being through it. I'm sending you love.

Hat24 · 01/09/2024 14:50

@Trying4eva1 keeping everything crossed for a turnaround in your test tomorrow 🤞🤞

How long did people stay bloated after egg retrieval? I'm 3 days post retrieval and still pretty uncomfortable/sore.

Natasha90 · 01/09/2024 14:53

@Trying4eva1 everything crossed for you tomorrow.

Its such a journey xx

I had my EC on Friday, felt awful on Friday and yesterday... today I thought I was fine until my DH knocked me in the stomach (by accident) and I cried for 10 mins 😣

LimeBird · 01/09/2024 20:31

Congratulations @Zeeha 💕 that’s great news and can understand the nervousness of these first few weeks! You’re doing the right thing by trying to relax though and that’s all you can do, try to distract yourself with some nice things/treats 🙂

LimeBird · 01/09/2024 20:32

@Trying4eva1 really hope you have a turnaround in your test tomorrow 😔 sending hugs

Lil89 · 02/09/2024 09:09

The clinic has called this morning, both embryos are showing as average so they suggest I wait for a Day 5 blastocyst instead of ET today (which is fine with me too!)

By then we should know which egg is stronger and better quality for ET 🤞

Zeeha · 02/09/2024 12:09

@Trying4eva1 did you have a better result this morning? I've had my fingers and toes crossed for you!

Thank you so much @LimeBird & @GLizzie88!

The brown discharge seems to have stopped today, so hopefully it was just from trauma caused by the applicator! Next step is a scan on the 23rd🤞

Best of luck for a 5 day transfer @Lil89!

If anyone is paying for their medication, I've just found out that Asda pharmacy sells IVF drugs at cost as they are not for profit on IVF medication, so you may want to consider using them to save a small fortune!

Trying4eva1 · 02/09/2024 13:09

I did one last night and the line had basically gone. So don’t test this morning and stopped on my pessaries. I’m back at work today (teacher)

Trying4eva1 · 02/09/2024 13:13

@Lil89 this is really really interesting RE Asda. How does it work?

This is @Zeeha post not mine xxx

Zeeha · 02/09/2024 13:35

I'm really sorry to hear that @Trying4eva1. I hope work gives your mind a good distraction and if you decide to try again, I wish you all the very best of luck and baby dust!

My clinic writes a private prescription and you take it to any pharmacy. So for example I was told to get Lubion and more Utrogestan to start taking from egg collection. A box of seven vials of Lubion from the clinic is I think over £120, so they wrote me a prescription (no extra charge) and I went to my local pharmacy who charged me £85 a box. I now need to get more, but I'd read online Asda sold at cost and the clinic confirmed this, so I'm going to pick up another prescription this afternoon and go to Asda to get them to order it in. I'll let you know how much cheaper they are to give you an idea once I know 😊

Can I ask what the Lubion is for? I'm slightly confused 🙏

Zeeha · 02/09/2024 13:59

@Lil89 sure that's no problem, it's progesterone. The nurse described it me as 'the daddy' of progesterone 😂 I think I'm likely on it as I've miscarried before.

Daniki · 02/09/2024 15:29

Hi all, iv been only glancing quickly at the thread as iv been so busy getting myself ready for going back to school(today!)
Had my FET scan before work and I got my date for transfer Friday the 13th! 😩 freaking out a bit it's fri the 13th but sure anyway 😂

LimeBird · 02/09/2024 16:26

Aw best of luck @Daniki - not long to go now then! Hope work is ok, I know how intense teaching can be!
so sorry to hear your update @Trying4eva1 - I hope you are ok at work, I have to admit I’ve been crap at work since about a week after transfer and since my negative test I think I’ve been even worse! Respect to you for getting back to teaching while dealing with this. Take care of yourself x
