BFP after IVF - anyone want to join me in the wait for first scan?

Sensitive

Hi everyone,
I’ve just had our first cycle of IVF and although we had very slim odds of it working (low AMH, low AFC, male factor, which led to only 2 mature eggs which thankfully led to one perfect day 5 blast). We are absolutely amazed and over the moon that it worked despite everything, but I am really struggling with the wait for first scan. I almost feel with infertility (we TTC for 6/7 years) that it does make you anxious and I’m finding the wait to my first scan (6th June) unbearable. I don’t want to seem ungrateful but I really wish I could enjoy it or relax a little but instead I am worrying about miscarriage and things I can’t control. For me this has been the worst bit of IVF so far, and I’d love to just be able to be happy so I don’t look back (if it does work) and wish that I hadn’t been so anxious and scared.

Is anyone else in the same boat who wants to keep me company? 🥹 Or can provide some tips on how to distract myself and cope better? I know there’s nothing I can do to change the outcome and what will be will be, but I don’t think I’ve ever worried so much in my life.

Thank you 🙏

Can not get over this tiredness. I think I’ve taken a nap everyday since last Tuesday! Also bought some ginger biscuits as keep gettin little waves of nausea.

How are you?

ladies post scan do you get to stop with the pessaries?

HopefulllHolly · 09/06/2024 08:34

@Vian67 I feel you on the tiredness! And very broken sleep with lots of crazy dreams! All my other symptoms have gone though, which I don’t know whether to be happy about?!

I asked the clinic about this - for fresh transfers they ask we stop at 8 weeks so I stop mine on Thursday (bit scared to stop them though), and for frozen 12 weeks. Not sure if other places do things differently though - it seems some test progesterone more than others so I don’t know if some might test for it first before getting you to stop?

Congratulations to everyone who have just got their bfp!

@Vian67 my clinic is the same, fresh stop at 8 weeks and frozen stop at 12. I can't wait to stop mine but have another 4 weeks!!! I was told I can either stop at the start of 12 weeks or at the end (whichever I prefer).

I'm soo tired too! Not sleeping great with vivid dreams. It's gets to about 2pm and I need a little sleep. The nausea is better the last few days too just nauseous at dinner time. All I want to eat is potato!

HopefulllHolly · 09/06/2024 09:25

@DippyDuck19 Haha all I want is potato too! So weird! I sent my other half out for potato waffles the other day, not had them since I was little!! 🤣🤣🤣
Annoyingly I seem to have gone off healthy foods and only want red meat and potato, and have an aversion of chicken. So i’m
really having to force the good stuff down my neck! Also have crazy cravings for ice lollies, ice cream and sorbet. I think that’s because I’m so thirsty though?

OP posts:
DippyDuck19 · 09/06/2024 09:30

@HopefulllHolly where DP has been working away I've been living off potato waffles or smiley faces with chicken dippers and peppa pig spaghetti (my fave childhood dinner). DP doesn't let me eat it when he's here!
I'm eating lots of fruit and ice lollies because I'm thirsty all the time too!!! I drink a litre of water yesterday in a hour and my DP was like are you ok as I'm not usually a massive drinker!

HopefulllHolly · 09/06/2024 09:49

@DippyDuck19 Haha how funny we want the same rubbish food! Waitrose have really good blackcurrant ice lollies I’m addicted to, and I’m partial to an m+s coconut, pineapple and lime one too. Closest I’ll get to a pinacolada for a while! Do you have any other symptoms? I’m less anxious than I was before my scan now, but it’s definitely started creeping back in again, especially as I feel pretty normal now.

OP posts:
DippyDuck19 · 09/06/2024 10:07

@HopefulllHolly ooh those ice lollies sounds good! I'm definitely less anxious but am still spotting so don't think the anxiety will go until that stops.
Apart from the mild nausea, tiredness and thirst, my boobs are really sore! I sleep on my front but that's starting to get more difficult and painful!

Its too long til the 11th July for my 12 week scan so I've booked another scan for 23rd June when I will be 10+1. Also doing the sneak peak blood test then too.

I have my booking appointment this week so all starting to feel a bit more real!

Vian67 · 09/06/2024 10:21

Oooh Ice lollies! I live at the coast so a whippy ice cream is like an everyday food 😝 but they are a bit of a grey area aren’t they. I’m going to a classic car thing today and was in a grump cos I know everyone will get an ice cream 🤣 never even occurred to me to get an ice lolly!

HopefulllHolly · 09/06/2024 10:48

@DippyDuck19 Oh bless you, at least you know it’s nothing to worry about now though as baby is still happy. I’ve got my scan on 24th but I’ll only be 9.5 week. Debating whether to move it so I’ll be 10 weeks and can get the NIPT test at the same time. Otherwise I guess I can just go and get it done a few days later.
My boobs hurt but much less than they did, more in the mornings and at night now, and kind of feels like I have glass in them. They were much more painful but I think maybe my body is getting used to the hormones now? Kinda makes me nervous my symptoms aren’t as strong I’ll admit but they stopped being as obvious before my scan so it’s probably nothing.

@Vian67 Oooh yeah get on the ice lollies! I‘m a fan of those cider refresher ice lollies ☺️ I don’t get why mr whippy aren’t allowed, it’s such a random thing to not have.

@DippyDuck19 / all - How long did it take for your NHS appointments to come through once registered with the midwife?

OP posts:
DippyDuck19 · 09/06/2024 11:18

@HopefulllHolly once I self referred online, the midwife called within 3 days and booked in my booking appointment. I got a letter for my 12 week scan last week. I was told my 20 week scan will be scheduled once I have the 12 week one.

HopefulllHolly · 09/06/2024 11:20

@DippyDuck19 Ah ok - I’ll give them a ring next week then to chase them ☺️ thanks!

@HopefulllHolly Yeah I also got my appointments through 3 days after registering.

Leaf86 · 09/06/2024 15:49

Hey everyone, has anyone had spotting / cramping ? I’m 7 weeks tomorrow. Woke up this morning to pale brown / beige (sorry tmi!) discharge when I wipe. There wasn’t a lot, but then I had the same thing mid afternoon. I’m also feeling a bit more crampy than usual. I’m wondering whether it’s irritation of my cervix from the pessaries, but the cramps are making me more nervous.

Vian67 · 09/06/2024 17:01

@Leaf86 hey I’ve had dark browny spotting on and off since last Tuesday and some cramping that comes and goes. I phoned clinic last Tuesday and they just said to phone back if it became fresh red x

LouP87 · 09/06/2024 18:36

I had spotting from 5 weeks to 8 weeks, literally just randomly stopped after my scan and me moaning about it to the nurse!

try switching pessaries to the back way if you think it’s that irritating your cervix? For me I think mine is sensitive, but the nurse also found a small sub-chronic haemotoma below the gestational sac which was likely causing most of it!

LouP87 · 09/06/2024 18:38

Also worth saying, each clinic will have different protocol if you report spotting. Mine got me in the next day for blood tests for HCG and progesterone levels and an early scan so check everything over, even though the spotting was brown and minimal.

DippyDuck19 · 09/06/2024 22:29

@Leaf86 I started spotting at 6+6 which started as brown then turned pink/red. I went to the EPU and everything was fine. I've had no more red but still spotting brown and am now 8+1. I also get cramps daily too but have had this since starting progesterone.
Like Lou said, I changed to putting the pessaries in rectally to see if that helped.

I've had a lot of round ligament pain today. And worse when sneezing. Anyone had this?

Leaf86 · 10/06/2024 10:11

Thanks all, nice to know I’m not alone!@DippyDuck19 @Vian67 @LouP87

I have messaged the clinic just in case they want to see me or have some advice. The pessaries have gone up the back entrance for now 😂🤦🏼‍♀️ Luckily no more spotting since yesterday lunchtime. Am still feeling very tired and nauseous, so that’s giving me some comfort.

HopefulllHolly · 10/06/2024 13:02

@Leaf86 glad the spotting has subsided! I’m starving today and all I want is potato and bacon 🥓 😂😂

Just got my booking appointment through for 25th June ☺️ exciting! Going to be a busy week as I have my private scan the day before. Hope it goes quickly!

OP posts:
Fluffyted · 10/06/2024 16:34

this tiredness is crazy! I’m always tired!! All I want to do is sleep. All day 🤣
I’m also hungry all the time - is anyone else just pure hungry & tired like 24/7?

aaaannd the heartburn!!! What is that about?
anyone got any tips for that? Nothing is working, except buttered toast.. i’m gonna look like a loaf of bread soon 🙈😂

@HopefulllHolly ahhh exciting! I’ve got my booking appointment this coming Friday, I haven’t had my scan appointment through yet.

AnnieStar12 · 10/06/2024 17:12

@HopefulllHolly whoa, that’s exciting! Nice having the dates in the diary to look forward to.

@Fluffyted yes, I’m sooooo tired all the time. Have no idea how I’m gonna carry on like this. I mostly work at home so it’s not too big an issue but I have to go to the office 1 or 2 days a week which is gonna be a killer!

I have rethought my scan plan so didn’t go today as originally planned but now think I’ll go at 6 weeks which is this Friday. Then I can hopefully go again at 8 weeks and then at 10 for the NIPT scan. That way I’ll have 2 week spacing between them all, assuming I get passed the first one!!

HopefulllHolly · 10/06/2024 17:21

@Fluffyted Im already in bed! It’s like a constant hangover - carbs needed and tiredness. I have only had heartburn once and thought I was having a heart attack - I haven’t had heartburn in my life before so it was not pleasant! 🤣 Just eat the bread or have a bottle of gaviscon with you at all times. Exciting for your booking appointment! Let me know what to expect. 🙂

@AnnieStar12 Ugh I can’t cope with office days at the moment, and I’m working away 2 nights next week too. They aren’t getting their moneys worth.
Bless you changing your scans! I feel bad for scaring you! 2 weeks between will go quickly though and if you’re worrying you can always add one in between them to put your mind at ease. Exciting for Friday! Im sure you’ll make it that far, take it day by day! I thought NIPT was a blood test only? Maybe I need to ring
the place I booked at to see if it’s a scan too as otherwise I should just move the scan on the 24th to the 27th when I’ll be 10 weeks.
