BFP after IVF - anyone want to join me in the wait for first scan?

Sensitive

Hi everyone,
I’ve just had our first cycle of IVF and although we had very slim odds of it working (low AMH, low AFC, male factor, which led to only 2 mature eggs which thankfully led to one perfect day 5 blast). We are absolutely amazed and over the moon that it worked despite everything, but I am really struggling with the wait for first scan. I almost feel with infertility (we TTC for 6/7 years) that it does make you anxious and I’m finding the wait to my first scan (6th June) unbearable. I don’t want to seem ungrateful but I really wish I could enjoy it or relax a little but instead I am worrying about miscarriage and things I can’t control. For me this has been the worst bit of IVF so far, and I’d love to just be able to be happy so I don’t look back (if it does work) and wish that I hadn’t been so anxious and scared.

Is anyone else in the same boat who wants to keep me company? 🥹 Or can provide some tips on how to distract myself and cope better? I know there’s nothing I can do to change the outcome and what will be will be, but I don’t think I’ve ever worried so much in my life.

Thank you 🙏

@LouP87 you also live near me! I've registered with Darent Valley Hospital but I considered Queen Elizabeth too as I work around the Greenwich borough.

Fluffyted · 07/07/2024 22:38

@HopefulllHolly my 12 week scan is tomorrow!! 😬😄 I'm a mixture of emotions.

@ThePeachGoose I'm in Bristol so no help with the antenatal care .. we don't have an awful lot of choice here (I don't think).

@summerchild92 I had twinges from week 5/6 but it was week 7 that kicked off all my symptoms (I'm so sad I've kept a dairy 🤣)
But am thinking maybe the IVF meds might be making them worse!? 🤔

@jas1996 good luck for tomorrow!!

@Edf good luck with your scan tomorrow!! Mine is also tomorrow. Excited & nervous but so looking forward to seeing our little baby.
I hope your partner is drink smell free by tomorrow morning!!

@LouP87 yes the feeling like crap is the worst. I wasn't prepared at all for this part. I'm so grateful like you that we are here and I try so hard not to moan or feel sorry for myself but it takes its toll sometimes and it's hard to do a lot of things. I think it will get easier when work & other people know as we can just say it's the pregnancy.

I need to start buying clothes as nothing really fits anymore. And I still don't have a bump 😭 I'm in that awkward stage where everything is too tight around the tummy! I ventured out to the shopping mall today - NO shops stocked maternity .. even John Lewis 🙈 so I'll have to buy it online.. I have no idea if maternity clothes will even fit because I don't have a bump yet 🤷🏻‍♀️
I also need to start buying some baby & pregnancy books as I have none so feel so unprepared. I'm just in my own little bubble 🫧 as I didn't expect to get here.

Hey guys thanks so much for your messages sorry we got back from holiday at the weekend and I've been so sick and had really painful ligament pain it feels like pelvic girdle pain which worries me as I'm quite early to be getting it but today I've woken up and it feels a bit easier 🙏

@ThePeachGoose I'm thrilled that your scan went well! How are you feeling? I hope it's given you some much needed reassurance?

Good luck @jas1996 @Fluffyted @HopefulllHolly And @Edf with your scans today/tomorrow/Wed. I'm really hoping I'll have some good news to share after my scan tomorrow afternoon, the anxiety and waiting is unreal!

@ThePeachGoose just catching up on the thread - so pleased you saw the little heartbeat 💓 such a big relief! In terms of hospitals, I think sometimes when you’re in and around London we have so much choice it can be a bit much! But I reckon that unless a hospital is under special measures or has a particularly bad reputation, then you can have good and bad experiences at any of them! All a bit of luck depending on who you see and what particular experiences you have. So important to also factor in journey times, not just for appointments and labour but also in a worst case scenario if your baby has a Nicu stay would you be happy travelling back and forth. I’ve not gone for my local hospital (it has a really bad rep) but I’ve gone somewhere that’s about 30 min travel either by car or public transport.

@DippyDuck19 so sorry sounds like you’re really suffering with the pregnancy symptoms- hope they ease up a little soon!

@summerchild92 try not to compare your symptoms too much with others as it might worry you more than necessary. Each pregnancy is different, I honestly think I’ve had a totally different selection of symptoms in each of my pregnancies so even in the same woman no two pregnancies are the same 🤷‍♀️ I’ve never actually been sick from pregnancy, but have definitely felt varying degrees of nausea and food aversions.

@HopefulllHolly cant believe you have your 12 week scan this week!! I remember first seeing you on the match ivf chat getting frustrated with delays to get started and now here you are 3 months pregnant ❤️ so lovely to see your success story!

Edf · 08/07/2024 10:28

Thanks for the well wishes everyone- 12 week scan went amazing, very active little baby in there- mental we can’t actually feel anything! Anxious wait for nipt results (which I no will come back high risk as they did last time) but hopefully the final hurdle before I can breath out a little and believe this is happening 😊

HopefulllHolly · 08/07/2024 10:36

@AnnieStar12 Awww that’s so nice to say. Thank you! Yeah weirdly I was just thinking back this morning and wondering if it had all gone ahead in March whether I’d be pregnant now, or was it all fate delaying it! Same with you - it’s been such a joy to watch your journey. All that panic and not wanting to do your egg retrieval because of numbers and it’s all worked out for you. Life is magic sometimes isn’t it 🥹 Fingers crossed we get our happy endings.

@Edf Awww that’s wonderful news! Must be so nice seeing it move around and things. Don’t stress about NIPT - it might not be that they’ll come back like last time; every pregnancy is different. Did you have the bloods taken today or last week? Mine came through really quickly so hopefully not long left to your own thoughts!

Beautiful picture @Edf so glad the scan went well! 😍x

jas1996 · 08/07/2024 11:25

Thought I was going to pass out walking into the scan, never felt anxiety like that but I’m out!
We had a double transfer so it was possible but it is twins🙈 there’s one heartbeat, the other is too small to see at the moment so I’m taking this as 1.5 babies at the moment. Just so relieved that one is okay, the second is a bonus at this point😭🥰
I’m only 6 weeks so it’s very early, but one is 0.55cm and the other is 0.29cm so teeny tiny! I have nothing to compare against, does anyone have any size comparisons to share from 6 weeks?!

Good luck to everyone else this week 🥰

oliviagrace2307 · 08/07/2024 11:29

Fantastic news @jas1996 what lovely news to have twins!! I was the same as you and had to do our transfer with an ungraded embryo but only had the one. How are you feeling after the scan? Xx

HopefulllHolly · 08/07/2024 11:36

@jas1996 Awwww so glad it went well! Twins! Or even just one is amazing 🤩 Afraid I can’t help with scan sizing - I had my scan at 7 weeks. I’m sure you couldn’t really compare anyway - everyone will be different. Plus it will just make you worry if you do compare! What’s next for you? Do you have to go back for another scan in a few weeks?

They really need to scrap grading, it added a whole other layer of anxiety that I didn’t need. When is your scan?
I feel relieved but not out of the woods yet, just praying they both keep growing🥰

You’re not wrong! I probably shouldn’t start googling this one either🙈 I’m going back to the IVF clinic in 10 days for another scan to see how they’ve grown, at least I get a free scan - that’s something in this expensive IVF world hey!

HopefulllHolly · 08/07/2024 11:58

@jas1996 Thats definitely a perk! 10 days isn’t too far away either ☺️ How exciting! Hope you can have a lovely day today in your happy baby bubble! Our first twins in the group too! 🥹

@jas1996 They should scrap it I was convinced this round for us would fail because of it but miracles do happen! My scan is tomorrow afternoon, nerves are in shreds.

That's really good that you get to go back and have another scan and see how much they have grown! 😍x

Is it your 12 weeks today? Not to wish time away, but I wish that was me already so I’m jealous!
I am a twin myself, and always said I wanted twins so feel like I manifested this too hard😂

Definitely enjoying today before the anxiety kicks back in tomorrow, is this the start of 18 years of anxiety? 🙈

I agree, also completely wrote the transfer off! Couldn’t believe it when they stuck, but it did taint the whole thing as I was concerned they wouldn’t stick and stay healthily due their grade even though I know grading is only aesthetic!
I know it won’t help but I felt exactly how you felt, never known anxiety like it but you’re so close now! Stay positive, you are pregnant right now🤞

Edf · 08/07/2024 12:17

The grading does add anxiety so much! Our 5aa hatching failed but our 4bc (that they were querying whether worth freezing or not) has stuck. No thyme or reason 🤷🏻‍♀️

oliviagrace2307 · 08/07/2024 12:18

@jas1996 Ahh how wonderful that you are a twin yourself and that your round was successful it really shows that grading etc isn't the be all and end all.

Thank you I really hope tomorrow will go well it's reassuring that I've had sickness etc as I had that with my first. Shows something is happening!

AnnieStar12 · 08/07/2024 12:29

@jas1996 exciting! Congratulations on one and maybe two!! I had a scan at 6+0 and was measuring 0.44mm so seems mine was somewhere inbetween your two! I think they’re so small at that stage it’s hard to be precise, I also saw they got differnt measurements at different angles while scanning me. I have had two scans since then and baby is measuring bang on. I am with you wishing away these next couple months! I get so jealous seeing women a few weeks more pregnant as I would love to be be passed 12 weeks with all my results back already!

I have just changed my nipt test as I no longer want a scan as I’m worried I’ve had too many already and my 12 week scan is only 2 weeks away. So I’ve found a company that just do the blood test without scan. Still doing it on Saturday so hopefully have results in sometime next week 🤞🤞🤞

No - mines on Wednesday (I’ll be 11+6). It’s definitely the bit I’ve found hardest of IVF is after the BFP the waits for the scans as you’re just left with a positive test and hope and that’s it. Anxiety levels through the roof constantly! Awww you’re a twin too - well then it’s fate! I’d have loved more than one baby as I always pictured myself with a big family but these things don’t always go to plan. I’m grateful for one (hopefully!)
Everyone and I mean EVERYONE has said the anxiety I’ve felt waiting for scans is just my life as a mum now - I didn’t think it would start so soon!! 😂😂

@Edf fantastic news and a lovely scan picture! At my 10 week scan baby was wiggling around, it's amazing how you don't feel anything!!

@jas1996 great news too!!! I had a scan at 6 weeks and was measuring a few days behind at 0.44cm so a little smaller than you. I had another scan at 6+6 due to bleeding and was on back on track at 0.56cm.
