BFP after IVF - anyone want to join me in the wait for first scan?

Hi everyone,
I’ve just had our first cycle of IVF and although we had very slim odds of it working (low AMH, low AFC, male factor, which led to only 2 mature eggs which thankfully led to one perfect day 5 blast). We are absolutely amazed and over the moon that it worked despite everything, but I am really struggling with the wait for first scan. I almost feel with infertility (we TTC for 6/7 years) that it does make you anxious and I’m finding the wait to my first scan (6th June) unbearable. I don’t want to seem ungrateful but I really wish I could enjoy it or relax a little but instead I am worrying about miscarriage and things I can’t control. For me this has been the worst bit of IVF so far, and I’d love to just be able to be happy so I don’t look back (if it does work) and wish that I hadn’t been so anxious and scared.

Is anyone else in the same boat who wants to keep me company? 🥹 Or can provide some tips on how to distract myself and cope better? I know there’s nothing I can do to change the outcome and what will be will be, but I don’t think I’ve ever worried so much in my life.

Glad you have a scan booked in for Monday to get some clarity, we’ll be rooting for a miracle for you. Without wanting to give false hope, my friend had exactly this slow rising Beta results last week, she went for a scan today to see what was going on and wasn’t expecting good news. But miraculously there was a heartbeat! She’s not out of the woods as they have to go back to check measurements, but she literally just texted me this evening to update me. So you just never know!

I don’t suppose you know here beta numbers ? Her increase rate and how many DPO she is ?? Sorry am obssesing over numbers to compare with mine 😵‍💫sorry if that’s a weird question 🫣

@hopefullsosbry She didn’t tell me the numbers, but said her doubling rate was around 80 hours rather than the 48 hours that is expected. She’s just one day behind me so those test were done around 5 weeks and she’s now 6 and a half weeks.

Ah ok .. I double every 96 hours 😔the chart says 4.11 days

@hopefullsosbry How many weeks are you now? If you’re more than 5 and a half weeks, can you not go get a private same-day scan tomorrow? You might get some answers as the not knowing is really hard as you say.

I am 5+3 today .. the only place near is ultrasound direct and they only start at 6 weeks .. I’ll be 6 weeks on Monday and the early pregnancy at hospital said they would happily scan me if I am concerned so I’ll hang off till then to save money .. it’s £88 for each beta blood as it is so don’t wana be spending much more when I can get it with hospital.. but thanks for the advice you are right the waiting is horrible , I am just scared for eptopic incase it ruptures ! I have the odd twing in my tummy now and then but no bleeding and no severe pain so hopefully the start of next week I’ll have my scan and will know ? I have also read you can’t see much on ultrasound until your hcg levels are around 1500 so mine won’t be that high until end of next week if they steadily increase at same rate as so far .. might not see anything next week?! 😵‍💫

Hey @DippyDuck19 how are you? QQ - have you had any cramping or anything recently? Last night and today I’ve had a bit of pain - wouldn’t call it proper cramping, more like very very mild period pain scratchy feeling. It’s making me worry a bit xx

@HopefulllHolly yes have had cramping since my transfer. Some days worse than others especially if I haven't pooped for a few days (sorry TMI). Today I have mild cramps and a new pain in my groin (not sure what that's all about). I've just put it down to the uterus stretching.

@hopefullsosbry am soo sorry to hear your HCG not doubling. I have my fingers crossed for you and hope you get some answers over the next few days.

@DippyDuck19 Ah that’s a relief you have it too. Kind of feels like I have an upset tummy kind of pain, but I don’t. My constipation has stopped now thankfully 😅
I also have like a weird pain when I stretch too much - like it feels like a pulled muscle in my tummy. Weird! Counting down the days now until my scan so I can get some answers/reassurance hopefully!

@HopefulllHolly I don't think I've eaten much this week as nausea and vomiting been worse. I've lost some weight this week too! Less food means less output I suppose lol.

When is your scan? Mines Sunday, am feeling really anxious about it and have a feeling that I can't shake off that it's going to be bad news. I really want to try and enjoy being pregnant but it's a struggle!

@DippyDuck19 Mines on Monday and I feel the exact same as you. Just keep imagining them telling me there’s no heartbeat. Really need to get it out my head but I can’t seem to get myself feeling positive at all. It’s bloody exhausting worrying all the time! I really just wish it was my 12 week scan and I think I’d feel much calmer if it was a positive outcome. I know there’s only like a 3% chance of miscarriage now but you see so many stories everywhere but then I guess people with normal pregnancies wouldn’t be posting about it online. (This is what I’m trying to remind myself constantly 🤣 can you tell!!) Not helping that work is quiet today so have more time to go in to my head.

@HopefulllHolly all the stories online are people saying they had a miscarriage 8,9 or 10 weeks! And because my last scan was 7+5 I feel like anything could have happened. But like you say, people who have normal healthy pregnancies don't post online! I keep reminding myself too 🤣 but the doubt is always there. After the scan on Sunday it will be 18 days til my 12 week scan and then I will probably be worrying about the screening results 🤣

@DippyDuck19 Haha we’re having the exact same thought process. It’s so hard not knowing what’s happening in there, just have to hope it’s ok. Not long to wait. Oooh that’s exciting! 18 days is no time at all! But yeah after that there’s a whole new world of worrying but I feel a bit calmer about that currently (maybe wrongly 🤣). I don’t have my 12 week scan date yet, guessing they’ll tell me on Tuesday when I have my booking appointment (provided Mondays scan goes ok!). Agh I wish i could just sleep until Monday - certainly feel tired enough!

@hopefullsosbry sorry to hear about the slow rising hcg, it must be incredibly stressful waiting. I’m keeping everything crossed, there are definitely some positive stories online.

@HopefulllHolly @DippyDuck19 I seem to have started with some new achy scratchy uterus pains today (8+5) and a bit of lower back ache. I am trying not to panic about it, but it is disconcerting! I vaguely remember this from before but I’m not entirely sure it was this obvious.
@HopefulllHolly good luck for your scan on Monday, not too long to wait now - am sure everything will be totally fine.

@Leaf86 Thank you lovely! Wouldn’t worry about the cramping unless it’s also with heavy bleeding. I think it’s quite normal as your body stretches. Our uteruses are double the size than usual already which is mad! I have cramps but not bad at all and the most ridiculous bloating, especially in the evenings. I look 5 months pregnant at night it’s crazy!

Scan went well. Measuring 10+1 on the dot! Saw its little arms and legs wiggling about ☺️ Also had blood taken for the sneak peak test. Should get results in 7 days.
