BFP after IVF - anyone want to join me in the wait for first scan?

Sensitive

Hi everyone,
I’ve just had our first cycle of IVF and although we had very slim odds of it working (low AMH, low AFC, male factor, which led to only 2 mature eggs which thankfully led to one perfect day 5 blast). We are absolutely amazed and over the moon that it worked despite everything, but I am really struggling with the wait for first scan. I almost feel with infertility (we TTC for 6/7 years) that it does make you anxious and I’m finding the wait to my first scan (6th June) unbearable. I don’t want to seem ungrateful but I really wish I could enjoy it or relax a little but instead I am worrying about miscarriage and things I can’t control. For me this has been the worst bit of IVF so far, and I’d love to just be able to be happy so I don’t look back (if it does work) and wish that I hadn’t been so anxious and scared.

Is anyone else in the same boat who wants to keep me company? 🥹 Or can provide some tips on how to distract myself and cope better? I know there’s nothing I can do to change the outcome and what will be will be, but I don’t think I’ve ever worried so much in my life.

Thank you 🙏

Yeah let me see if I can find it @AnnieStar12 it was somewhere in the depths of the pregnancy pages I’m sure!

It’s maybes as I have had 5 losses aswell ? Maybes after 3 they put you in that category? When she said to me ‘you fall into a certain category’ I just assumed she meant my age ? She didn’t actually clarify as I said ‘my age’ and laughed but she didn’t say anything else she just continued what she was saying .. so I just assumed she meant my age ? Could be due to reacurrent miscarage ? I’ll ask her at my booking appointment to clarify what the category was exactly. 🤔

HopefulllHolly · 18/06/2024 15:34

@AnnieStar12 I can’t find it on the labyrinth of NHS pages but it’s here: https://www.rcog.org.uk/for-the-public/browse-our-patient-information/being-overweight-in-pregnancy-and-after-birth/#:~:text=If%20your%20BMI%20is%2030%20or%20above%2C%20a%20daily%20dose,your%2013th%20week%20of%20pregnancy.

I know I have read it somewhere on nhs but could have been the pages for my midwifery department or god knows where because I’ve been on so many effing websites in my maniac anxiety 🤣🤣

Thanks ladies. How confusing!
My BMI is 27 so not quite in that category but not that far off. Hmm, maybe I’ll see if I can get a low dose folic acid and top it up just slightly.

HopefulllHolly · 19/06/2024 11:01

How’s everyone doing today? 😊

DogMummy87 · 19/06/2024 11:23

Sorry for the radio silence. Been back to work properly and it has really taken it out of me. I have felt quite nauseous yesterday and today but apart from that...all fine and just waiting patiently (or impatiently 😜🤣) for my scan on the 3rd July! 🤞🏻🙏🏻
Hope everyone else is doing okay! 💜

DippyDuck19 · 19/06/2024 11:44

Sorry been quiet recently. Have been a little anxious with my scan coming up on Sunday but trying to stay positive.

Yesterday was a good day with very little symptoms so me and DP went out for dinner and he wanted to pop into John Lewis to look at prams (although won't be buying until after 20 weeks). He just kept saying they're all huge 😂

Today not so good with symptoms. Been vomiting all morning. Luckily am working from home but had a team meeting which I was chairing, managed to last the meeting but then had to rush to toilet afterwards!

How are you @HopefulllHolly ?

HopefulllHolly · 19/06/2024 13:17

@DogMummy87 Yeah work is knackering I bet! Mine are making go on 3 trips away next month and I don’t know how I’m going to cope! Hope they are taking it easy on you. Only 2 weeks until your scan - after today it will be less than two weeks which I always think feels easier to manage.

@DippyDuck19 Glad you’re ok! How far along are you now? Is it 10 weeks? Sorry I keep forgetting my brain has turned to mush recently! Really sorry you’ve been so poorly, that’s rubbish. Is there anything that’s helping it at all? Awww so cute looking at prams! I’ve kind of already decided but obviously won’t buy anything until 20 weeks either but I have a list of links of things I’d want. Even that feels quite risky!!
Im all good! All my symptoms apart from frequent loo breaks and tiredness have gone. I feel totally normal. I did have a touch of nasal drip last night but it’s gone today. And my boobs look massive which my other half keeps ogling which is quite funny. Bit of a novelty as they are usually tiny. But other than that I feel fine, which worries me. 9 weeks tomorrow and have my scan on Monday so I’m praying it’s all ok in there. I’d feel like an idiot if somethings happened to baby and I’m hear talking about symptoms 🙃 Trying to be positive but it’s hard when I feel so normal!

Fluffyted · 19/06/2024 13:25

sorry I’ve been quiet too! So much going on and still wishing I could sleep allll day long 🤣 😴 I’m still waiting for the pregnancy glow to kick in!

my boobs have also started to get bigger which is nice when usually they are tiny little mosquito bites!
Bra question - what kind of bras are you all wearing?
I’m still wearing my normal bra with underwire but I was googling today to buy maternity ones and everywhere is saying we can’t have underwired ones, unless it’s something called flexi-wire 🤔 so thought I’d ask all of you what you all are finding comfy to wear these days.

Fluffyted · 19/06/2024 13:31

@HopefulllHolly I know you’re worried about your symptoms coming & going but I’m hoping it’s just your hormones levelling out. I’ve had the odd day where I feel fine and then they come back. I’m get so envious of all the women who have no symptoms but a healthy pregnancy!

my SIL told us on the weekend that her ex SIL (her ex partners sister) is having a baby and she is due in October but she only found out that she was pregnant last week as she’s had zero symptoms!! Crazy how it affects us all so differently.

HopefulllHolly · 19/06/2024 13:31

@Fluffyted I didn’t know we couldn’t wear normal bras! I wasn’t going to venture in to maternity until I was almost at due date tbh. I wear skims bras (honestly wouldn’t have ever bought anything kardashian but they are so good and comfy!). I just live in these! Still waiting for the glow too, I feel like a toe at the moment. Rings around my eyes, spots on my chin etc - not my best at all!! 😂😂

OP posts:
Fluffyted · 19/06/2024 13:39

@HopefulllHolly nor me until I googled it!! Maybe is a tactic to get us to buy more things pregnancy related 🤣
It’s the underwire that apparently can cause the milk ducts to get blocked 🤷🏻‍♀️
haha I’d never have brought the Kardashian's stuff either but I have seen a couple of their skims clothing recently which looks soooo comfy!! So I might be a changed woman!!

me too! I thought I’d be saving all that until the last month or so. Apparently there is a difference between maternity & nursing bras as well!! Who thought bra choices would be so confusing 🤯

honestly I feel like my face has aged sooo much these past few weeks / month. The under eye bags & rings are a permanent feature now 🙈 and the spots!!

DippyDuck19 · 19/06/2024 13:47

@HopefulllHolly I'm 10 weeks on Saturday. A colleague bought be some ginger cookies which help! Need to get some more bananas as they help too!
I have 3 prams in mind but am soo indecisive so thought we'd look early so that I'll make my mind up by 20 weeks. I have an Amazon wish list for everything else. It may be a bit early but it keeps me distracted from googling symptoms (or lack off) and trying to be to positive!

@Fluffyted I am still wearing my normal underwired bra too! But starting to get uncomfortable. If you are planning on breast feeding it's recommended to change to a non-wired early on so that it doesn't block the milk ducts (or so I've heard).

I'm on the large size boob-wise so find non-wired not very supportive. My boobs are soo heavy at the moment too! I've resorted to wearing no bra when I'm indoors. I have 1 non-wired sports bra which I might change too and invest in some more. Don't want to buy much at the moment, particularly if they are going to get bigger!!

Natty2 · 19/06/2024 13:49

Hi all
My first scan has now been booked for 4th July where I should be 6+6 @DogMummy87 sounds like we are on similar timeframes unless this is your second scan?
Super anxious about our first scan! Not really having loads of symptoms other than hunger and needing to wee abit more frequently and for the past week been wide awake for a few hours in the night!
Hope everyone is well here

HopefulllHolly · 19/06/2024 13:51

@Fluffyted Yeah I’m worried - it’s just not fun just going off a test and a scan 2 weeks ago when something could have happened. I know I’m lucky to not be being sick like the other poor ladies on here for sure! But it would be nice to be reassured by something. That’s so crazy that they didn’t know they were 5 months pregnant! Imagine!! 😦😦

I got cheap maternity/nursing bras from ASOS in my last pregnancy they just come in S, M,L so easy to find the right size! I loved them and wore them through the whole pregnancy and for 2 years of breastfeeding. I got M while pregnant, and then ordered some in size L when I got big after birth.
I've only been back in normal bras for about 10 months and I think I'll dig the maternity ones out again soon and start wearing them again before long. For now I'm still in underwire.

Fluffyted · 19/06/2024 17:15

@DippyDuck19 10 weeks seems to crazy doesn’t it!!!

it’s so exciting & nice being on this journey with everyone on this chat!

I’ve also chosen my pram & car seat!! But won’t buy them until way further down the line. It’s such a happy feeling that we are finally able to walk down the baby aisle and know it’s our turn ☺️

@Natty2 such an exciting time!! I hope your scan goes well 🤞🏼 I can’t remember what my symptoms were at 6 weeks but I feel like I was just tired, that was it!

@HopefulllHolly awww lovely I’m sure everything is totally fine. I know what you mean though, a little more reassurance would be nice.
every little twinge and I’m on edge that something is going wrong. I blame the IVF journeys we’ve all been on - makes us soooo anxious!

@AnnieStar12 that’s really good to know, thank you!! I’ll have a little look.
anything comfier would be nice! Also the size issue seems much easier in S,M,L and I was thinking how on earth I’d be able to know what size I’ll be 🤣

Yes very similar as this is my first scan and @hopefullsosbry is there with us too! Yeah, I feel really anxious too and starting to reconsider if I am going to go on this work trip I have planned from 7th - 11th July. Particularly as feeling nauseous has kicked in for me yesterday and today and isn't very pleasant at all 😩🤢

HopefulllHolly · 19/06/2024 18:26

Eeek exciting @Natty2 ☺️ the insomnia is horrible! I still have it but half of it is weird dreams and needing the loo constantly I think now rather than just lying awake at 3am!

@Fluffyted Thank you! I keep yo-yoing between being positive and then the anxiety is back again. Monday isn’t too far now and then hopefully it’ll be good news. I’ve had a weird craving for aubergine the last week 🤣🤣🤣 so random! Otherwise I’ve been totally off vegetables which I usually love. Which prams do you like? I think I want the bugaboo fox 5 (mad talking about it so early really or even looking at them but I’ve been spammed by baby brands 🤣🤣). It’s meant to be good for different terrains and we live kind of in the countryside and do loads of walking with the dog. Will go look at them post 20 weeks (fingers crossed).

@DogMummy87 im sure you’ll be ok for your work trip, it’ll just be tiring! So hopefully you can have a day off after you’re back for sleeping?

@AnnieStar12 Ooh I’ll look at those bras for later down the line. Thanks! How are you doing today? Feeling ok?

@Fluffyted thank you 🥰 how far along are you now? (There were too many messages to catch up on when I joined!)

@AnnieStar12 thanks for the link, I recognise your name from another board, pleased to see it worked for you! Hope you are doing well?

@DogMummy87 @hopefullsosbry that's exciting and nice to have company that week!

Sorry you're already feeling nauseous! Have you got something to help?

@HopefulllHolly thank you! Did I see your next scan is on Monday? How many weeks will you be?

HopefulllHolly · 19/06/2024 13:52

@SETTC87 how was your scan? And hope you had a lovely holiday!!

Oh you're so lovely for remembering and checking in 😊

Holiday was lovely thanks, actually helped my anxiety with everything going on and I almost managed to sort of forgot about it!

This morning though I was a ball of nerves, I'd had a bit of bleeding a few days back which was obviously quite stressful so in truth wasn't feeling all that positive. As she prepared the wand I sort of turned to the screen expecting the worst and then there it was - this small creature with arms and legs moving around with a strong heartbeat!! In some ways, I'm glad I ended up having the scan a bit later as I was so surprised at how developed it seemed and how much I could see at this stage - think I was just expecting some random blob lol. All measuring as it should at 8+5, so yeah all in all just all very emotional really and it finally feels like this may actually be happening this time 💕

Still don't really have any symptoms apart from I suppose tiredness - feel like I'm ready for bed come 6pm lol. Time to finally fill in those hospital forms now I guess lol!

Good luck to all you other ladies who have scans approaching - thinking of you all ♥️

AnnieStar12 · 19/06/2024 22:17

@SETTC87 congratulations, what wonderful news that the scan was all good! You must be so relieved.

@Natty2 same, I recognise your name too - maybe we were both on the IVF March thread (or the IUI thread last year!) Glad we are both on a pregnancy thread now, exciting!!

@HopefulllHolly I'm okay, but really really anxious, as I think we all are! I am sooo tried all the time and have insomnia on top of that, argh!! The relief from Friday's scan has worn off a bit now and I'm starting to get impatient for the next scan. I spoke to the hospital about my reassurance scan and they said to just walk in any day next week. I will try hold out until Wednesday when I will be 7+5 (I've got builders in the house on Mon & Tues so can't really go before then anyways which is probs a blessing in disguise).

As you are all already thinking about pushchairs, can I recommend you also check out the Joolz brand. They aren't stocked in John Lewis or Mamas and Papas but you can find them in quite a lot of independent shops. I did lots of pushchair research back when I was pregnant with DD and went and tried them all out (even had a spreadsheet lol!). I went with Joolz in the end. I absolutely love it! We got the full travel system so have used it pretty much every day for 2.5 years now, and I'm hoping it'll be good enough for this next baby too. I have all the baby stuff hidden away in the loft - just hoping we get to use it all again one day!

DogMummy87 · 20/06/2024 07:09

@SETTC87 such beautiful news!! Congratulations 😍💕💜
