Hi, couldn't see a thread for June yet so thought I would start one.

I'm on long protocol so actually starting down regulation on 28th May, egg collection not scheduled in until 8th July.

I am on NHS and this will be my first round. Was referred less than a year ago now and have managed to loose 2 and a half stone to get my BMI down.

Anyone else due to start around June?

@Toon49 hope you got some positive news from the clinic!

We are starting our short protocol on 1 July, have our consultation with the nurse next week to show us how to inject.

GraciousProtea · 05/06/2024 06:47

@Toon49 ah that’s so amazing! Ours is happening pretty quickly, had our initial tests done last week and our first consultation next week.
This will be our first time doing IVF.

Rebekah77 · 05/06/2024 10:01

Not feeling 100% so moved weigh in to Tuesday

means collection will be cancelled for the 3rd July which is frustrating but is what it is .. hopefully they’ll still have space in July

going to start provera tomorrow anyway so I don’t come on naturally

@GraciousProtea that's great that you have your consultation next week. Is that to discuss the medication etc?

Just wondered if I can ask everyone’s opinion:

On Monday, the embryologist said he would call me on Tuesday with a decision about our other two embryos.
Now it was said that everything looked great and they have good reason to think that the embryos would be fine and able to freeze.

Tuesday morning I get a message - text - to say they were degenerate and unable to freeze. Literally three lines and that was it. No reason or anything - appreciate there’s not always a reason and that is not my issue.

Am I being a bit over the top to think that that is an unacceptable message to send? Especially after they said they’d call?

I’ve spoken to two people I’m embryology now and I sort of get the feeling they can’t understand why I’m upset about this and all I’ve got is a sorry you feel like that 🤷🏻‍♀️

Also the member of staff I spoke to today said I had 6 eggs, 5 injected and 3 fertilised - which we were told 5 eggs collected, all 5 fertilised but only three continued development

Why is it impossible to find a clinic who are honest and do what they say they will?

SamVan · 05/06/2024 14:30

@FlutteryButtery2 you are absolutely entitled to a proper call and to be treated with more consideration when going through such a difficult time. I think you are well within your rights to be upset at their failure to be consistent with their communication and to give you a call to let you know bad news to give you the chance to ask questions, even if they don’t know the answer. I’m so sorry your clinic has been like this, it is really not acceptable. Vent all you want!

@FlutteryButtery2 I second what @SamVan said and think you are well within your right to be let down and disrespected with at text message update. I've just had a look on the HFEA website for you and as part of their code of practice that clinics have to follow, counselling emotionally and compassionately is a huge area, and clinics legally have to offer you formal counselling services as part of your treatment and when things don't go to plan, or the patient is upset aka how you are (which you're completely right in being, as well as show compassion at all stages of the treatment. Which clearly they've not shown in any respect here.

It's so disappointing that they've done this especially when they clearly said they would call. Have you since called and spoke to someone there? And is that where they were a bit nonplussed by your reaction?

As Samvan said, vent all you wish - I Would feel the exact same.

SlinkMcSlink · 05/06/2024 17:15

@FlutteryButtery2 That sounds extremely cold and heartless. You’re going through something life changing. Is this private or nhs?

I started taking my norethisterone today. So actually feel I’m doing something useful towards the end goal at last. If I stop taking them next Friday, will I come on the following week. Has anyone taken this and not had their period follow? My scan is 20th.

How does everyone cope in work? I find myself distracted which is good but highly stressed all the time and on the go. So that can’t be good.

CakePigeon30 · 05/06/2024 17:38

@FlutteryButtery2 I would have appreciated a call. Are you nhs or private? Hope you are ok.

@SlinkMcSlink I'm always busy at work so always takes my mind off it! Not on norethisterone so not sure. Do you have to wait for your period before starting stims?

@CakePigeon30 I’m not too sure. Just know that I stop taking them next Friday and then I have a scan the Thursday after. It’s all this waiting for the next step that is annoying.

Got all the needles/drugs in the house. Just need to get through this part first.

@SlinkMcSlink @CakePigeon30 I started on the 4th day off of the drugs. first day off them was on the Friday, started on the Monday evening.

and @CakePigeon30 you start stims on day 2/3 of your period.

Rebekah77 · 06/06/2024 06:47

Morning all

@FlutteryButtery2 so sorry they’re not doing as they should that’s deffo not good enough . Hope you can contact patient services today to discuss the poor service xx

@SlinkMcSlink hope your feeling ok so far . Think I would have gone mad without work lol it’s kept me sane during the 18 months of false starts . Keeping busy is all good

I can start provera this morning but they’ve said it’s upto me as they now haven’t got space the surgery date planned. Really don’t want to be on it too long as it’s painful but in the same light if my period come it’s all cancelled anyway ! On the fence at the moment to take it or not 😮

GwenH82 · 06/06/2024 11:19

Can I ask if anyone on down regulation got really tired? I'm exhausted and not sure if it's the synarel or I'm coming down with something. Been on it for a week now and the last couple of days I've just been so, so tired.

CakePigeon30 · 06/06/2024 18:41

@GwenH82 I am so tired! Started mine on Monday and I'm normally a bit of an night owl but yesterday I fell asleep around 5pm! Lying in bed now to be honest!

@Toon49 yeah, we are meeting with the nurse and then they do more blood tests on both me and my husband (I must still find out exactly what these tests are for). They also workout your exact treatment dates and show you how to use the medicine etc.

Have you had your consultation yet?

My cycle has been cancelled this month as we both ended up with COVID so we're starting stims 5th July now! Hoping COVID won't have effected egg/sperm quality!

@Toon49 i will be stimming with you. Sorry you’ve now got it. Hope you’re not feeling too rough

FlutteryButtery2 · 09/06/2024 17:20

@CakePigeon30 I’m ok thanks
My test day is Thursday aswell, getting impatient now
Im a bit like @Snowdrop131 and not holding out much hope - think it’s because it’s a bit doom and gloom knowing we’ve nothing in reserve if this doesn’t take and I’ll have to go through it all again which I’m worried about

Have had some nausea which has gone (assume was body getting used to the extra hormones I’m taking) and have spent a lot of time sleeping (extremely unusual)

@Toon49 am so sorry you caught it too
Fingers crossed you’re recovering well

Hi everyone, please may I join this thread? I wish you all the very best of luck and I hope we can be a great support to each other! To give some background on myself, I'm 32 and I've had two pregnancies. My first was natural but sadly ended in a missed miscarriage at 30, and my second was helped with letrozole which resulted in our beautiful daughter being born when I was 31. My husband and I have just started the process of IVF due to a male factor. I believe I'm on what is called mild or short protocol IVF, where my cycle was timed with norethisterone and the medication amount is low as I ovulate regularly. Tuesday was my last dose of norethisterone and I'm due to start injecting tomorrow which will be day 4, as my period started Friday. I have a scan booked for a week on Monday, then a second scan two days later, with the egg collection likely to happen either Thursday or Friday. I'm very worried about self injecting tomorrow as I have an irrational fear of needles. When I've needed blood thinning injections in the past my husband would do these for me, but he's going to be away next week and I don't have anyone else I can ask to help me. Does anyone have any tips to help with self injecting please? If I hover the needle over my tummy when pinching the skin ready and then close my eyes when I push the needle into my skin, is that ok or is that not advisable? I don't even know how far into my skin the needle should go which worries me. The clinic hasn't shown me how to inject and they've just pointed me towards videos when I've asked before. Given the emergency surgeries I've had in both my pregnancies I'd hoped I'd be fine with a little needle.. but sadly I'm not as I'm stressed just thinking about it now!
