IVF/ICSI May or late April

AnnieStar12 · 10/04/2024 22:29

Is anyone else gearing up to do IVF/ICSI in May?

My meds have arrived and I start my down regs next week to start a long protocol ICSI cycle, my egg collection will then be mid-May.

Had my first ICSI cycle in Feb which resulted in only 1 embryo which was transferred on day 5, but BFN. I found the support group on here super helpful with my last cycle, so wondering if anyone else is in a similar position?

@AnnieStar12 that's amazing news about your embryo! Sending positive thoughts that it continues to develop nicely!

@HopefulllHolly lovely news about the scan date I'm so pleased this round has worked for you. It's perfectly normal to be anxious - I was a wreck throughout most of my pregnancy with my son and I wish I'd been able to enjoy it more. It's really tough especially when you have gone through so much to get to this stage! I wish I'd taken up my clinics offer of therapy that's included in our round as it may have helped me reduce anxiety. Is that something your clinic offers?

@Rebekah77 so sorry to hear it got cancelled again. That's rubbish news and i hope it goes more smoothly in the future!

@Ashleighlouise I'm so sorry to hear you are bleeding too. I'm also annoyed on your behalf that they are making you continue with pessaries too - my clinic did as well and it felt such a waste and really quite draining. If you and your partner decide to do another round I might see you on a new thread ☺️. I hope you are ok

It was official test for me and expected it was negative. I've told the clinic I'd like to do another round as soon as possible and it sounds like I need to finish this bleed, have one more and then they can book me in to start the bleed after that. In the meantime I'll get an appointment with the consultant to see what changes (if any) we can make.

I will likely still lurk in the background on the thread to see how everyone else is getting on! (I'd love to be tagged in any of your BFP posts or pregnancy scan updates- I'm a sucker for a success story 😄)

I wish you all the best of luck for the future and if anyone else is continuing in a couple months I'll see you on a new thread! For now I'm off to have a bath and eat some sushi!!☺️

HopefulllHolly · 20/05/2024 13:37

@wishfulbean Thank you! Really sorry it didn’t work out for you, I’m sure it will when you’re back to it! For now, eat all the sushi (my favourite 🥲) and take care of yourself! Hope to see you on a board in the near future telling everyone about your bfp ❤️

positivepetal · 20/05/2024 13:42

I just had a call from the clinic with an update -6 of them are looking good, 1 not so good. They expect around 50% to drop off. So 🤞🏽 we will have at least one for transfer on Wednesday

hopefullsosbry · 20/05/2024 13:54

Hi, I had my 1st scan today and have 1 follicle at 14mm and 6 are under 10mm that’s from left ovary .. right ovary not doing anything .. I have to continue with jags and another scan on Wednesday but she thinks I’ll still have to continue with jags and EC next Monday is her guess but will see what the upcoming scans say also booked in fur ICSI as male factor but she said will see on the day as time his sample was gone was ivf so it’s just a waiting game (still) for us .. they will just let the 14mm one go over and discount so we can get the smaller 6 .. 🤞🏽 I wonder if there is any research done on whether the 1st folicle eggs to ripen are more likely to have live birth then folicle eggs that develop later in the stims ?? Just out of curiosity would be interesting to know or if this doesn’t make a difference? 🤔

AnnieStar12 · 20/05/2024 13:59

@hopefullsosbry that’s good you’ve got a few growing, hopefully they all get nice and big for you!
I think the question you ask about the lead follicle is one where there are many different theories so will depend what study/doctor you read (isn’t that the case with everything in ivf!!).

@wishfulbean so sorry this cycle didn’t work for you. Glad you’re able to start planning your next attempt.

@positivepetal excellent result, with 6 still in the running you’ll hopefully have a few still going by Wednesday x

@Ashleighlouise congrats on your wedding! You have something very special and exciting to look forward to! Make the most of the hen and honeymoon 🥰

Seasidegirll · 20/05/2024 14:04

I’m all booked in for egg collection on Wednesday, it’s at 2pm so my trigger is at 2am
tonight 🤪 not looking forward to waking up for that!

So sorry to those of you who have had a negative test, I really hope you’ve got lots of lovely thinkings booked in to look forward to and that you rest up and look after yourselves ❤️

hopefullsosbry · 20/05/2024 14:08

@AnnieStar12 yes you are 100% correct .. I have had so many different explanations etc from different practitioners.. what is strange with me when I was at my last clinic I had AMH 7 (was 39) got 11 eggs /11 mature and 11 fertilised then got 5 blast … then this time (aged 41) my AMH was 14.5 ? Do it jumped up by half ? The nurse said today it can’t go up the way .. so I wonder what the other clinic wrong ? The other clinic did have terrible reviews and a whistle blowing incident re management lying to patients to get more money etc .. strange though !

2tuxedocats · 20/05/2024 15:44

@Ashleighlouise congratulations on getting married! Full party for you in August!! We got married in October too, such a beautiful time of year to get married ❤️

@wishfulbean I’m really sorry to hear it was negative, I hope you are ok and are looking after yourself.

@positivepetal great numbers! I’m sure there’s some strong ones there that will make it to Wednesday.

I’m hoping to preoccupy myself with work until Friday! I’ve also going out on Wednesday and Thursday in the evening to distract myself. I’m not very good at sitting about waiting so the more I can do, the better I’ll feel.

Could it be that they gave you the results with a different measure, ie AMH can be read as ng/ml or pmol/L and the number is quite different whether you red it one way or another. But I agree, it would be great to be able to differentiate which were the small ones vs the leading one when comes the transfer. The embryologist at my clinic told me they don't have a way to track them apparently...

PurpleRayne89 · 20/05/2024 16:08

@hopefullsosbry My right ovary don’t respond at all. There was one follicle which didn’t budge the entire time. Well it grew 2-3mm within the last days of stims. Did you clinic say why this happens?

hopefullsosbry · 20/05/2024 16:10

@Ginie2024 oh yeh it could be that it was in a different measuring unit ? I’ll have to check .. yes it would be an interesting study, I have been googling stuff and came across a random study about that ovulation can take place in different patterns (usually it’s alternating between left then right ovary each month) but can sometimes occurs left left then right or different patterns and studies have been done that shows some patterns of ovulation can determine the sex of baby .. ie an LLR produced significantly more male offspring and LLL ovulation pattern was female .. sorry that’s way off topic but I just thought it was interesting and just shows there is so much in-depth that specialists still don’t know about fertility etc .. 🤔 seemingly ovulation from the right ovary has higher birth rate .. which isn’t good for me cause my right ovary isn’t responding 🙈 oh dear haha .. but yeh it’s all really interesting !! I think I have a degree worth of knowledge in fertility from 5 years of TTC and IVF experience 🤨

hopefullsosbry · 20/05/2024 16:17

@PurpleRayne89 no they didn’t say .. I have another scan on Wednesday so I can get them to check again and maybes find out why ? I think sometimes (from what google says) that for whatever reason one ovary might not respond to stimulating drugs .. but will be active naturally the month after again .. they don’t know the reason yet but the signals to ‘switch it on’ don’t respond to the drugs .. Was also in the study that if one ovary is missing the other ovary will eventually know to ovulate every month instead of every 2nd month but its unaware to science what in the body triggers or tells it to switch on for this to happen .. sorry I think I have too much time of my hands !! I need to step away from google haha !!

@Seasidegirll Good luck for your collection and such an antisocial trigger time! Hope you can get some rest before/after. I'm also having my egg collection on Wednesday, though at 10am.

PurpleRayne89 · 20/05/2024 17:46

@hopefullsosbry lol no worries, it makes sense doesn’t it. I was just disappointed my right ovary wasn’t playing ball. Hopefully if I have to cycle again, it wakes up.

@hopefullsosbry Very peculiar you got such different results. I also had widely differnt AMH results only 8 months apart and was told that different labs can have different sensitivities. But my consultant was also very confused as it isn’t suppose to jump around like that, but decline slowly and steadily.

Im sorry but I'm not sure I remember your back story. What happened with the 5 blasts from your first round? Did any make it?

And so what’s the plan with your current clinic? Are they gonna let the lead follicle pass to allow the other smaller ones all grow up together and get those?

Ginie2024 · 20/05/2024 18:11

@hopefullsosbry super interesting indeed, if only we knew more about all of it! Same issue here, the right one is just not interested in joining the party 🙄

Clairehbear · 20/05/2024 18:49

So had my 2nd scan today. I still have the 2 big ones which have gotten bigger then have one that’s just on the 12mm line and 1 slightly under. Then have 1/2 that are small which they don’t think will be good. They are hoping that the 2 close to the line will catch up.
So have my final dose of cetrotide done, had to take it early! Then have to trigger at 20:30 tonight and then Egg collection booked for 8:15am on Wednesday. We are going to stay in a hotel tomorrow night since it’s a 2.5/3 hour drive.
Starting to get nervous now for everything to go well.

Has anyone any tips with regards to egg collection?

HopefulllHolly · 20/05/2024 19:17

Eeek happy last night of injections @Clairehbear @Seasidegirll (and @Cloclo93 if you got your call to go ahead) ☺️ have a good day tomorrow without sticking needles in yourself! Hope I haven’t missed anyone - busy week for everyone! @PurpleRayne89 hope you have good news in the morning.

@Clairehbear I must be a sadist as I really enjoyed egg collection (drugs were great, but I think peoples bodies react differently - I was zonked and remember nothing, like I had a wonderful sleep). Only advise would be to take your headphones if you want to listen to music or something to keep
you calm waiting and to take some lucozade sports or electrolytes to drink after. Make sure you clear your day after and rest, and set an alarm for your progesterone tablets as I forgot. I basically slept for 12 hours after my collection - was delightful) 😊😊

PurpleRayne89 · 20/05/2024 19:18

@Clairehbear Hey, I hope all goes well
for you. My advice is to just try to relax on the day and look after yourself after. Your clinic will look after you quite well too and you should be well informed. Maybe decide what questions you might want to ask whilst you’re there? That way when you return home you’re not torturing yourself. X

Seasidegirll · 20/05/2024 20:06

@Hollielouise @Clairehbear Ah it’s lovely that a few of us will be having egg collection on the same day! I’m feeling really nervous about it,
nervous for the actual procedure and the sedation but also nervous for the outcome!! Will you be doing and fresh or frozen transfer? Good luck to you both, hope it goes really well and I look forward to hearing your updates!

Hollielouise · 20/05/2024 20:12

@Seasidegirll I'm feeling the same! I think it's probably the unknown and just not sure how much I will feel or experience but good to hear @HopefulllHolly having such a positive experience! 😅🙏🏼

I'm booked for a fresh transfer on the 27th May... all being well and no OHSS. Are you doing fresh or frozen?

EvaA17 · 20/05/2024 20:22

Thank you all for the well wishes for the scan this morning.
The doc is happy with the progress, I have two really large follicles and 14 between 12mm and 16mm and a few small ones which are still playing catch up. They want me to carry on doing stims and another scan on Wednesday morning to see the progress. Really hoping I can go in for EC before the BH weekend. I think they will be opting for freeze all cycle for me in fear of OHSS but have told me that could change to fresh transfer. I trust they'll make the best decision for me.

Clairehbear · 20/05/2024 20:36

@Seasidegirll will be hopefully going to do a fresh transfer if we are lucky enough to get an embryo out of this. What about you?

EvaA17 · 20/05/2024 20:39

@Ashleighlouise my heart goes out to you! And the fact they're making you still do the pessaries, seems really unfair and odd! Congrats on the wedding! Sounds like you have a lovely summer and autumn ahead, hopefully after you can have a FET when you're ready.

@Hollielouise ahh I'm glad your scan went well, those numbers seem really good! Have they said when your EC will be? And which trigger shot you'll be taking?

@2tuxedocats you're doing the right thing and keeping yourself busy until test day, sending positive energy your way for Friday! Please let us know how it goes.

@Cloclo93 I have been googling a lot about follicle size and eggs, and there is such a mixed bag of research and evidence out there. I don't think there is a blanket rule to any of it (adds to the confusion and uncertainty) Id like to think one day they'd have concrete evidence for it all. Have your clinic let you know about your trigger yet?

@wishfulbean so sorry to hear about your news. I hope you can use the next two months to recover and heal and then restart the next round. For now, enjoy all the sushi! Sending you lots of luck!

For everyone else having scans, egg collections and transfers in the next few days, I hope it goes well, keep us posted xx
