IVF/ICSI May or late April

Is anyone else gearing up to do IVF/ICSI in May?

My meds have arrived and I start my down regs next week to start a long protocol ICSI cycle, my egg collection will then be mid-May.

Had my first ICSI cycle in Feb which resulted in only 1 embryo which was transferred on day 5, but BFN. I found the support group on here super helpful with my last cycle, so wondering if anyone else is in a similar position?

Does anyone know the do's and don't around swimming? I'm 8 days past transfer now and my daughter is wanting to go swimming - I thought it would be fine now but having a google there seems to be a few mixed messages 🤷🏻‍♀️ I thought it would have been fine to go now?

AnnieStar12 · 19/05/2024 10:14

@Ashleighlouise i know for the first week you should avoid swimming and baths as it’s an infection risk. 8 days is probably just okay

@wishfulbean and @Ashleighlouise sorry you both got negatives over the weekends, waiting to find out is the hardest part. Hope you’re both looking after yourselves x

@AnnieStar12 thank you, I feel like I've known from early on it wouldn't have been a positive outcome, I have felt majorly overwhelmed and worried and my body has probably just thought this is not the time to make a baby 😅😅! How are you feeling?

2tuxedocats · 19/05/2024 11:10

@Ashleighlouise it seems like very mixed messages even from doctors - I’m an avid swimmer and the time before this I was told to wait about a week, this time my new doctor has said no swimming until I’ve tested. I think it’s to do with infection 🤷‍♀️ I think 8 days is probably ok

PurpleRayne89 · 19/05/2024 11:21

@AnnieStar12 Any update on your embryo? Tomorrow is day 4 for me, I’ve not had any update since day 1. I know if I hear from them tomorrow it’s bad news. I’ve not been able to relax much. How are you managing your anxiety around this? Any tips?

That's what I thought! They said wait a week to have sex but nothing about swimming etc but I think it is due to infection, I went anyway as we haven't done anything fun as a family in a little while so I just thought why not 🤷🏻‍♀️ hopefully it's ok! 😅

I’m feeling fairly calm today, I will get an update tomorrow morning and then again on Wednesday morning. Transfer Wednesday if it makes it that far.

@PurpleRayne89 did both your two eggs fertilise? What day will they transfer if they make it?

I know I’m gonna be super anxious the closer it gets to Wednesday. My approach right now is to accept that it’s already decided, if that makes sense. If it’s not viable then that’s that and I can’t change it. I also feel a bit like I’ve given up already like the chances of this one embryo becoming a baby are soooo slim even if it makes it to day 5.
But for now, I’m focusing on taking one day at a time - I made a check list when I started this round so I can tick off every stage we pass. It’s been long, but satisfying just to keep myself only looking at the next stage at each moment.

I’m on day 11 of stimms today and I’m starting to feel the effect of the drugs now. A bit bloated and uncomfortable but my tummy really hurts when I wee?! It feels like everything is getting squashed! I just did a quick Google and I can’t really find much info but has anyone else experienced this??

PurpleRayne89 · 19/05/2024 15:05

@AnnieStar12 I had 2 eggs only 1 fertilised. I got a day 1 update. I’ll get no further update until day 5. Tomorrow is day 4, so if I hear from them tomorrow, it’ll be bad news. I think they only do day 5 transfers. You are coping better than me. I’ll be fine and then I’d remember and panic a little inside. The list sounds good 😌

Gnatalie16 · 19/05/2024 15:09

@Seasidegirll I felt exactly the same with my stims and I ended up having OHSS, not to worry you but make sure when you go you tell them. They can amend your drugs to make sure it doesn't get too bad. I had my EC on Friday and still struggling today.
What drugs are you on?

Hi @Seasidegirll yes excruciating pain while weeing after egg retrieval and before transfer. I think it was ohss. Def worth telling doc. It was uncomfy but didn’t get too bad. Now pretty much back to normal two weeks later.

Seasidegirll · 19/05/2024 16:12

@Gnatalie16 Argh this is what I’m worried about! Most things I’ve seen online are people saying they felt the tummy pain AFTER egg collection, not before. I will definitely mention it at my scan tomorrow. I’m on bemfola and fyremadel, a low dose of both.

@CreamLampshade thanks, I’ll definitely talk to them tomorrow at my scan. Did you have the pain before your egg collection as well? I haven’t shown any signs of OHSS in my previous scans but I guess it could happen fairy fast? 🤷🏻‍♀️ it’s all a bit of a mystery isn’t it haha.

Rebekah77 · 19/05/2024 16:18

No sign of any bleed arg think that’s me well and truly cancelled . Stupid body .. just knew when I got my period it was going to mess everything up !

Hope all are ok resting & maybe enjoying a little bit of sun xx

Ginie2024 · 19/05/2024 16:49

Hi all, back in the game - congrats to all the successful ones and well done for all the ones persisting, they really don't make it easy on us...
Question if I may: has anyone here done 2 cycles back-to-back and how did you feel with it - was it successful, did you think you should have had a break or actually that it was best to do it all in one go?

HopefulllHolly · 19/05/2024 18:01

Awww @Rebekah77 Im so sorry, you’ve tried so hard. It’s so annoying, surely the clinic should have cancelled it then rather than carry on?
Hopefully you can have some time to get your weight down healthily so you don’t stress about it and have to starve yourself, it wasn’t nice you having to do that. 😞 Do you have a plan for what’s next?
Really sorry it’s gone wrong for you yet again. Sending hugs x

Ashleighlouise · 19/05/2024 18:01

@Gnatalie16 sorry to hear your period hasn't come 😔 does that mean you have to wait and start again? Can you not just keep waiting for your period and then start/adjust the date for your surgery/EC?

@Ginie2024 Hi! Hope you're doing ok! No experience on 2 cycles back to back but I definitely don't think I'll be diving straight into doing a FET any time soon! I feel like I need a good few months to just get back to normality a little bit.. if it was a full round of stims and EC again I'd be even more hesitant! Would you be doing a full round again or going for a FET?

Sorry @Gnatalie16 .. I meant to tag @Rebekah77 ... my phone hates me on this app 😂

Ashleighlouise · 19/05/2024 18:06

@AnnieStar12 I am hoping so much that you get a positive update tomorrow but I feel like the outlook you have is a good one.. just take each day and each step at a time and you never know, this little embryo could well be the one you have been waiting for 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼 I was told by all the nurses and doctors I had a perfect text book IVF cycle and it still hasn't worked for me so it just works when it's meant to work and I really hope this is it for you 🩷🩷

Rebekah77 · 19/05/2024 18:38

@Ashleighlouise They only do surgery with general two days a week this was booked 6 weeks ago

i expect if it goes past Tuesday they’ll have to scrap this collection date and rework everything . I can’t face another lot of provera it was agony

i just knew this would happen as I literally only just stopped bleeding a few days ago

they are so clueless I could of predicted this ! Just paid again for virology .. that will probably expire again !!

arghh why can I literally never get to stims lol 😂

Thanks @Ashleighlouise and I am sorry it hasn't gone as you planned on your end but you never know... 🤞
We had our EC on the same day but you went for a transfer while I went for PGTA, I had 3 little eggs from the EC but 2 made it to the lab and I am still waiting for the PGTA results, which was always going to be the issue for me (low egg count, low AMH and bad genetic). So while I won't be transferring for a few months, I have just about enough money to do another EC so I was curious if that was a thing or if I would just destroy myself by doing another round of stims just 2 weeks after my last EC...

SS2022 · 19/05/2024 19:17

@HopefulllHolly many congratulations 🥳 so happy for you xxx

AnnieStar12 · 19/05/2024 19:30

@Ginie2024 I did my first cycle in March and then went straight into another cycle in April which was long protocol so it takes a little longer and involves more medication so just got to EC stage last Friday. It was manageable, but I could not do another cycle any time soon. I’ve paid for a three cycle package but tbh I’m not sure if I’ll even do the third round as the first two haven’t got great results for all I’ve put myself through physically, mentally and emotionally. I also have low AMH and am old to be doing this so time is not on my side which is why I did two back to back.

HopefulllHolly · 19/05/2024 19:34

@Rebekah77 Can you swap clinics at all? Yours doesn’t sound very flexible at all, and I can’t believe they didn’t think it could happen if you’d just bled. It doesn’t seem fair both emotionally, physically, mentally and financially to make someone cancel a whole cycle because they don’t fit in to their 2 days of operating, seems mad to me!! Really sorry it’s happened again after all your hard work.

@SS2022 Ahh thank you so much. Still very much in shock, but looking forward to letting my clinic know tomorrow morning to find out when we have our first scan because I’m now just worrying about miscarriage. The worrying doesn’t end and I’d really just like to enjoy being pregnant for the first time ever. I’m getting more symptoms now like heightened sense of smell, nausea and veins on my chest now which are a little reassuring!

AnnieStar12 · 19/05/2024 19:43

@Rebekah77 I’m so sorry. that is really rubbish. Surely your clinic can find a way to make it work if this is the 7th time you’ve had your cycle start and be cancelled.
If they need to have total control on timing why don’t they put you on down regulation for as long as needed until after your bleed? That’s what my clinic did as my period was 4 days late plus I had to wait for a cyst to go away so it was all delayed a week and I was just kept on down reg during that time. I’m so sorry you’re going through this.
