IVF/ICSI May or late April

AnnieStar12 · 10/04/2024 22:29

Is anyone else gearing up to do IVF/ICSI in May?

My meds have arrived and I start my down regs next week to start a long protocol ICSI cycle, my egg collection will then be mid-May.

Had my first ICSI cycle in Feb which resulted in only 1 embryo which was transferred on day 5, but BFN. I found the support group on here super helpful with my last cycle, so wondering if anyone else is in a similar position?

@Gnatalie16 Monday will be my 4th scan I think! It’s definitely the right decision to push egg collection back I’m just so disappointed, never mind! It’s going to be a long weekend of waiting until Monday 🤪 I just hope this extra few days of stimms is what I need. How many follicles did you have?

Gnatalie16 · 17/05/2024 20:34

@Seasidegirll I ended up getting 69 today. Waiting for my call tomorrow morning to see how many fertilised. Feeling a bit crappy now as the evening is going on so just need to be careful with the OHSS as I don't fancy being in hospital

Seasidegirll · 17/05/2024 20:46

@Gnatalie16 thats an absolutely insane number!! Were you expecting to get than many or was it a complete surprise? Fingers cross your OHSS doesn’t get too bad 🤞🏻 have you got some electrolytes/coconut water?

Gnatalie16 · 17/05/2024 20:52

@Seasidegirll no not at all when I was on about my 3rd scan they were saying I had 4 and lots of little ones so I was just expecting a handful really. I do have some yes think I'm going to give them a go soon starting to feel quite sick after eating

CreamLampshade · 17/05/2024 21:22

Hi all, did the test and it was negative I’m afraid. Feel deflated and a bit empty but also I kind of knew it already. We were only trying for about a year before resorting to nhs ivf because of our age. So there’s still hope with trying naturally right? (Trying to comfort myself here lol). We’ve both got good fertility on paper so hoping it’s not the end for us.

just turned 40 tho so I know it’ll be much harder :(

think we’ll take a break from trying for 3 months and then think about unfreezing eggs if it still hasn’t worked after 6 months of trying naturally. Does that sound like a good plan?

we went out for a glass of wine and pasta and I’m about to bath. So that’s nice. Tbh I’m sick and tired of constantly worrying about egg health, I’m just going to relax for a bit I think. This has really taught me that you can’t control anything so may as well enjoy the ride.

AnnieStar12 · 17/05/2024 21:34

@CreamLampshade I’m sorry you’ve had a negative result. That’s so disappointing :(
Great you have some eggs frozen, when did you freeze them? God, I wish I had some frozen eggs from when I was younger!
It is hard to get pregnant at 40, but take comfort in the fact you got so many eggs this round, it’s a promising sign.

Oh I’m so so sorry @CreamLampshade that’s rubbish to hear. Sending you hugs. Your plan sounds like a good one, definitely less of the regimented and relax and enjoy yourselves a bit to recover from the toll of IVF. Gutted for you both but at least you have some eggs saved and you are absolutely not too old to try and succeed naturally!
Your evening sounds absolutely heavenly, good for you both doing something nice together and enjoying the finer things in life that you weren’t allowed. I hope you aren’t hard on yourself, and take it easy while you let your heart recover a bit.
Do keep in touch still if you feel like it - it’s been lovely getting to know you and I’ll be waiting and hoping to see you say you got your BFP in the future. ❤️

Ashleighlouise · 17/05/2024 21:36

@CreamLampshade I'm so sorry the test was negative, sending lots of love 🤍🤍 it's so exhausting having to go through all of this and not getting the outcome that is wanted. I'm glad you've both managed to get out though, pasta and wine sounds delicious 😍 I feel like there's definitely still time for it to happen naturally or to even explore other avenues in regards to treatments etc!

Having a well needed break to look after yourself and get back to being you will be so needed! I feel like I've completely lost myself during all of this and if my test is still negative on Monday will absolutely be having a break for a few months before trying anything again. I've lost one fallopian tube and the other is completely blocked so won't ever be happening naturally for us but a break will definitely do me some good!

Do you have any weekend plans to keep you busy?

Clairehbear · 17/05/2024 21:39

@CreamLampshade so sorry your test was negative. I’m sure you’re disappointed but your plan sounds like a good one! This journey is so hard and it’s good to take a break and just look after your mental health without worrying all the time. Hope you take time and enjoy your weekend

PurpleRayne89 · 17/05/2024 21:40

@CreamLampshade Sorry to hear this news. ❤️

Seasidegirll · 17/05/2024 21:52

@CreamLampshade so sorry to hear your test was negative. Sounds like you’ve had wonderful evening enjoying lots of lovely things. Having a break sounds like a good idea, I really hope things work out for you. Best of luck ❤️

CreamLampshade · 17/05/2024 22:21

Thanks all for your kind words. To top it all off I now have a very uncomfy pile on my backside and thrush it seems at the front from those pessaries! Bleurgh 😂 Sorry if tmi.

@AnnieStar12 i froze the eggs at 35/36 and there are 28 of them. So a decent number. Just need to make sure DH’s sperm is top notch before thawing! He has good sperm paper but wondering if there is defragmentation going on given that the embryos seemed to slow development after 3 days. Apparently that’s a thing? You’d think they’d test before doing ivf!

@Ashleighlouise i know what you mean about losing yourself. It’s rubbish and quite unhealthy but hard not to do! I’m going back to the gym next week and I’m going to a boozy bday party tomorrow even tho I really don’t feel like it. But think it’ll be healthier to get out in the world again, I’ve been a bit hermitish for the past month! I also want to go back to eating normally, I feel like I’ve been eating not for me but for egg health which is kind of ridiculous

@HopefulllHolly thank you, this thread has been a godsend and it’s been lovely to see it work for you. I will probs mostly bow out now just to help myself readjust to normal life as I know I can be obsessive with checking these things.. but I also feel invested in you all and interested in what’s next so I won’t promise anything!! 😂

positivepetal · 17/05/2024 23:03

@CreamLampshade sorry for your negative test. I think your plan sounds great and a few months for you and your body to reset after these hormones is a great shout, especially as you have quite a few frozen eggs!

Hope you get to enjoy tomorrow and relax.

@AnnieStar12 - did you remember to do the pessary? @Gnatalie16 do you need to do them too? It was quite a different encounter. I did up the 🍑

positivepetal · 17/05/2024 23:04

@HopefulllHolly thanks for the reminder, I was literally getting ready for bed!

hopefullsosbry · 17/05/2024 23:27

@CreamLampshade sorry for your negative test ! It’s rubbish. Hope you are ok and have some loving people around you. You were saying about dna fragmentation .. my partner had just slightly low perameters so clinic didn’t recommend the test but after the 1st failed cycle we went ahead and got one done anyways and glad we did as flagged up he actully had slight high DNA fragmentation so it is worth getting it checked .. can be changed easily seeminly with lifestyle changes so it’s whether getting it seen to I would say ?! Wishing you the best of luck for the future 🙏✨

Gnatalie16 · 18/05/2024 08:46

@positivepetal no not starting my pessaries as going to do a FET in the next month or two once my OHSS has gone. I'm on ganirelix still though for a week and my blood thinners so not away from the injections just yet 😅

HopefulllHolly · 18/05/2024 08:47

Gnatalie16 · 18/05/2024 09:03

@HopefulllHolly pretty much same as yesterday really sitting up for long isn't comfortable so just laid down all the time which isn't the end of the world but it's also boring, I don't think I have anything else to watch 😂

@Rebekah77 thank you I have a bottle of lucozade sport on the go and then will do some dioralyte too to try help.

Just had my call from the embryologists and they have said 44 fertilised normally which I'm super pleased with! They are transferring them now to the incubator for the next 5 days when I will get an update on Wednesday to how many have formed to blastocysts and can be frozen

AnnieStar12 · 18/05/2024 09:05

Was woken up this morning by a call from the embryologist - my one egg has fertilised so it’s made it past the next hurdle!
Been googling one egg success stories since yesterday so feeling a bit more hopeful today knowing it can happen.

So now means I have to continue with pesseries and will get a day 3 update on Monday. If it then makes it to day 5 they’ll transfer on Wed morning.

@positivepetal and @Gnatalie16 hopefully you get positive updates this morning too.

@Rebekah77 you know one way to bring on your period is intercourse and/or going for a run. Fingers crossed it shows up!

Good morning everyone!

@CreamLampshade so sorry to hear about the negative test. Right now it's just so important to look after yourself and do what's right for you, rest up and do things and surround yourself with people that make you happy.
It's such an exhausting process and really does take its toll, this is my first round, and I'm on day 7 of stims and it feels like a lifetime already and then there's the 2.5 years we've been TTC on top.
Sending you lots of love, take care of yourself! Xx

EvaA17 · 18/05/2024 09:09

@Gnatalie16 those are impressive numbers! How are you feeling today? I really hope your OHSS symptoms are manageable and don't worsen.
Take plenty of rest and let your body recover xx

HopefulllHolly · 18/05/2024 09:20

@AnnieStar12 Yay I’m thrilled for you! Go on little embryo!! I’m so glad you’re feeling more hopeful too. Will be rooting for your little embryo!

@Gnatalie16 they are great numbers. Sorry you’re not feeling great. Lying down is boring but it’s for the best! Hope you heal up quickly.

EvaA17 · 18/05/2024 09:26

@AnnieStar12 awww yaay! So pleased to hear, come on little embryo! Fingers crossed and lots and lots of baby dust! Xx

positivepetal · 18/05/2024 09:28

@AnnieStar12 that's great news! You've got a strong one there! Enjoy the weekend with a little less worry now xx
