Hi there, I start my medication for a fresh IVF round in September. Im not the best at navigating mumsnet and wondering if there are any groups set up for people starting around the same time? X

@tallbird3 oh that’s awful. I don’t think you’ve done anything wrong. I would have expected him to have voiced such strong views when you’ve discussed it before if he was so against it. I certainly wouldn’t have expected him to yell at you. That’s not ok. It’s only just happened so maybe it’s just taken him by surprise. You could have twins anyway if the embryo splits so it’s never ruled out by just putting one back. Hope you’re ok. You’ve had a stressful day as it is and that’s a lot on top.

@GwenH82 I was told that too but today they’ve advised I take 2 weeks off and are giving me a sick note. I am a police officer so maybe it’s the nature of my work rather than just work itself.

ASGIRC · 18/09/2023 14:16

@JadeAC Absolutely ignore that. That is not based on any science, just old wives tales.
The myth that absolute rest will make the embryo implant, which is untrue, or that stress from work has any influence on implantation. It doesnt. In fact, staying home for 2 weeks, doing nothing but wondering if the transfer worked ight be even more stressful that going to work and being distracted.

My transfer doctor told me, straight after the transfer, to resume normal life completely, including exercise, sex life, and work. I left the clinic and went straight to work.

StormsPassIVF · 18/09/2023 17:34

@tallbird3 Im so sorry you’ve had to endure this on top of IVF.

You have done nothing wrong.

The doctors suggest 2 for very good reasons and perhaps once he has calmed down he can try to explain to you why he is so angry. It’s hard to understand why he would be annoyed at the decision to transfer 2, doctors don’t transfer 2 expecting both to be successful and they have HFEA targets to reduce multiple births. They don’t actively promote multiple births.

Again you’ve done absolutely nothing wrong xx

@tallbird3, sorry to hear about how your day has gone, I'm sure that's been really upsetting. I agree with everyone else, you haven't done anything wrong at all. It's probably just a surprise, hopefully once he's thinking rationally he'll realise you made the right decision.

Hope you have got on ok today @Nataliedb87 and all goes well for you tomorrow @GwenH82. My scan was all ok this morning so egg collection is booked for Wednesday first thing. Last injections tonight - can't wait!

JadeAC · 18/09/2023 18:56

@fsr111 we are at the same point as I have my egg collection Wednesday too. Fingers crossed x

JadeAC · 18/09/2023 19:00

@ASGIRC Thanks for that, I was abit blindsided. Mine is being done on NHS rather than a clinic so was surprised when the nurse said it as it hadn’t been mentioned before. Despite me knowing you’re right it’s got in my head now and I just don’t want regrets if it’s unsuccessful and I didn’t listen even though it wouldn’t really be because of work. I’ve got some leave I can just use so I’ll prob just do that.

ASGIRC · 18/09/2023 19:05

@JadeAC obviously do whatever feels right for you.
But 2 weeks off work is definitely not universal guidance (although you will see it on loads of websites on Google) and means literally nothing.

I went straight to work (literally jumped on a bus and then the tube) after my transfer and here I am, 11 weeks pregnant. I didn't have any leave, not any interest in taking any.

Best of luck with your transfer!

StormsPassIVF · 18/09/2023 19:58

@taytay2020 Welcome and good luck with your stims tonight 😊

I also have a high AMH so if your treatment is anything like mine they start your dose low and increase it if required when they do you scan reviews.

Due to the OHSS risk I was originally scheduled for a frozen transfer around November.

After my egg collection the consultant popped round and said that because I didn’t over respond to stims (12 follicles) they were going to do a fresh transfer instead.

I was worried about OHSS but the clinic were so conservative I feel way more relaxed about it now. My AMH is 28 and I am almost 39

tallbird3 · 18/09/2023 20:33

Thanks everyone for your kind words, they’ve been very comforting. He’s still very upset and ‘betrayed’ but at least we’re talking now.

sending good vibes to all in the group, it’s a lot to go through!

fsr111 · 19/09/2023 06:51

Good luck for today @GwenH82.

StormsPassIVF · 19/09/2023 08:12

@GwenH82 all the best for today!!

@Nataliedb87 hope all went well yesterday and you are recovering well 😊

taytay2020 · 19/09/2023 09:55

@stormspassivf thank you, that's really reassuring! First stim was fine, I got my husband to do it, so he concentrated on that while I chatted away about what I'd got up to at work as if he was listening 😀 I'm going to be careful with drinking lots of water and taking it easy for the next couple of weeks, but either way I think I've made my peace with doing a frozen transfer in a few months if necessary.

taytay2020 · 19/09/2023 09:59

@tallbird3 I'm sorry you had to go through that after your transfer. Hopefully he was just taken by surprise. Perhaps he can call the clinic and ask to speak to someone for reassurance about it - it sounds like by missing appointments he's feeling out of the loop? I'm sorry it's put you in such a difficult spot, but you did nothing wrong.

GwenH82 · 19/09/2023 11:10

Thanks for the support ladies, they didn't get any eggs today. Good luck for everyone else for your cycles.

StormsPassIVF · 19/09/2023 13:36

@GwenH82 I hope you are ok (what I mean is as best as you can be).

Hopefully the docs can amend your protocol for the next cycle when you are ready to go again.

In the meantime I hope you can do some nice things and take your mind away from IVF for a little while xx

StormsPassIVF · 19/09/2023 14:06

I have a question, hopefully someone who has done a cycle before can answer.

I did an antagonist protocol and have a regular cycle.

I am 6dp5dt and so my period would usually be due tomorrow.

If the transfer has failed could I get my period at the usual date or would it be delayed due to the meds etc…

thank you!

tallbird3 · 19/09/2023 15:43

@taytay2020 thank you that's a great idea, I'll suggest that. You know when your brain's not quite working at its best on all these meds, I didn't even think of that!

@StormsPassIVF mine was delayed quite a bit - about 8 days in the end, I think due to the meds but also the stress of an unsuccessful round. I'm not sure whether or not that's normal though

StormsPassIVF · 19/09/2023 15:49

Thank you @taytay2020 😊

I ended up calling my clinic, they said it will be delayed to around the time I have to test so that’s 11 days post transfer and 5 days after my usual period.

I have to be in the office tomorrow so wanted to be tooled up with pads and everything just in case 😂

fsr111 · 19/09/2023 15:58

I'm sorry to hear it @GwenH82, hope you are OK. Look after yourself these next few days, just be totally selfish and do whatever you need to. Sending hugs to you.

JadeAC · 20/09/2023 13:18

Had egg collection today. They retrieved 5 eggs but won’t know until if they are mature enough. In a for a nervous few days.

Hope yours went ok @fsr111

fsr111 · 20/09/2023 14:46

Hey @JadeAC, five eggs for me too, although the clinic called about half an hour ago to say all five are mature which felt like good news. Now just to wait to see if they fertilise. Feel like these next few days are going to be a bit nerve wracking. How did you find EC? Hope you've been able to chill since.

JadeAC · 20/09/2023 15:11

@fsr111 aw that’s good then. I’m still waiting for my call. Hopefully they’ll be mature too 🤞

Im abit of a baby I think as it was little more uncomfortable than I was expecting. But Other than a few aches I’m ok now. How did you find it?

JadeAC · 20/09/2023 15:32

4 out out of the 5 where mature enough. So I have four to work with. Hopefully fertilisation goes ok. I’m anxious about that but least it’s a short wait as they are ringing back in the morning.

fsr111 · 20/09/2023 16:16

@JadeAC - fingers crossed for both of us! The clinic are calling me back in the morning too.

I found it ok, but have felt pretty tired and groggy since. We have a 4year old DD, so I didn't get to rest for too long! Will sleep well tonight I think!

StormsPassIVF · 20/09/2023 17:24

@fsr111 @JadeAC glad EC went well!

fongers crossed for the next few days x
