Hi there, I start my medication for a fresh IVF round in September. Im not the best at navigating mumsnet and wondering if there are any groups set up for people starting around the same time? X

@GwenH82 yay, that's great news. We had our injection teaching session on Monday and it seemed straightforward so fingers crossed!
Had baseline scan on Monday and ready to start stims tomorrow 😱. Still can't really believe it's happening.
@bloss0mx welcome! I am in the same boat, we had first appointment on 11 August, so contrary to the internet it can be pretty quick on NHS! I feel we got really lucky, so trying to focus on that as in reality waiting longer probably just makes it worse 🙃

GwenH82 · 23/08/2023 12:07

I can't believes it's actually happening too. Trying to not get my hopes up but it's hard. I think I've started to stare at other people's babies in the street like a bloody mad woman.

TheFanciestPants · 23/08/2023 12:22

Haha, I can definitely relate. I am in the stage of being crushed by others pregnancy announcements, so feel your pain. But my husband always says, there aren't a finite amount of babies so trying to keep the hope alive x

April623 · 23/08/2023 18:23

Hi everyone, I have my baseline scan pencilled in for Friday but currently waiting for day 1 of cycle to arrive. It was supposed to be today so I had to push the scan back 🙈 Good luck to everyone who's starting this week and next.

@GwenH82 I used Ovaleap on my last cycle and it was super easy. I prepped it every day and my partner jabbed me! But I'm on different meds this time round.

@TheFanciestPants I get the feeling, I spend my life dreading the next announcement...

April623 · 25/08/2023 18:39

Baseline scan postponed due to late period. I'm always so regular but of course not this month!! No scans available over the bank holiday weekend, seems ridiculous?! But I'm booked in for Tuesday. Just want to get going 🤦🏻‍♀️

TheFanciestPants · 25/08/2023 21:48

@April623 urgh, how annoying! This journey is always throwing curve balls, so you have my sympathies. Delays are so tough.

Second day of Gonal F here, injections are ok but a bit tingly afterwards.

April623 · 25/08/2023 22:05

@TheFanciestPants Thank you. It's really not the end of the world, it's just awkward because I'm doing it abroad and had planned everything out, work, cover for pets etc. so I'm fed up before even starting!

Glad your injections are going ok so far. I haven't had Gonal F before. I had Ovaleap on my first cycle and Elonva this time round 🤷🏻‍♀️ Wasted £300 of Ovaleap that I didn't end up needing!!

West8690 · 27/08/2023 12:29

Hi ladies,

I've just started downreg for my 4th round and im feeling pretty rotten.
Frozen cycle, so 2 weeks of buserelin to start, back for a scan on Thursday and expect ET around 3 weeks after.
1st fresh cycle in 2020 and had DD in 2021
FT in 2022 ended in early miscarriage.
Fresh cycle #2 in Feb was successful but MC at 13 weeks in May.
I really have zero positive expectations with this round after 2 losses but trying not to let myself get overwhelmed. @MaybeBabyTwo I think we are in very similar situations ❤️

My body seems to be reacting really badly to the buserelin, cramps, a really dodgy stomach, bloating and exhausted, palpitations and ridiculously high anxiety, I can't remember any of this from last time (but I'm sure I just block it all out 🤣) just wondered if anyone experienced anything similar? xxxx

MaybeBabyTwo · 28/08/2023 14:36

@West8690 hey, yes similar. My lining scan is Thursday.

Kjaj87 · 28/08/2023 17:37

Hey, hope everyone is getting on ok 😊. I had my final bloods and consents today and should hopefully be starting medication in around 10 days. It’s been so long since I last done IVF that I have forgotten everything. I remember drinking pom juice, eating Brazil nuts and keeping my tummy warm at certain points throughout treatment but forgot when 🤔 Does anyone have any tips or recommendations? Xxx

GwenH82 · 29/08/2023 09:37

@Kjaj87 Good luck, I should be starting a week today as long as my period is on time. I don't have any tips as this is my first time but I wish you all the best of luck.

I can be quite scientific/practical and have largely avoided any tips that eating a certain diet/healing crystals/acupuncture will magically help, just focusing on what the Dr's are doing. I do wonder though when the hormones kick in if I will go completely loopy and drive my husband mad wanting to try every theory going 🤣 in the end I guess whatever gets you through and helps keep you positive and relaxed!

marshk · 29/08/2023 09:51

Hi all - I hope you are all doing well. Have found myself in a bit of a dilemma! I was hoping to start this month but my period is due a little earlier than I had thought on 10th/11th. I've got a wedding on 22nd September and I am a bridesmaids so I absolutely cannot miss it. I'm worrying about the timing of scans or even worse egg collection. It's literally the only day in the month I cannot make myself free. Do you think the clinic can be flexible to work around 22nd or would you delay starting until October? My feeling is we should delay it but we've got this far and I'm just so desperate to start!!

TheFanciestPants · 30/08/2023 10:25

@marshk I would probably delay until October, but understand if you don't feel that's an option.

I had my day 7 scan yesterday and I have a dominant follicle (lining up with my day 11/12 normal ovulation) which I think means my cycle will be cancelled tomorrow at my follow up.

I am devastated but have already discussed next steps with the clinic and they have suggested a long protocol could solve this issue, so open to trying it.

Baby dust to all x

marshk · 30/08/2023 10:50

Thanks @TheFanciestPants - I'm slowly getting my head around delaying. Just really frustrating.

Really sorry to hear about your scan. Let us know how it goes tomorrow. I wonder why a long protocol may help

April623 · 30/08/2023 17:58

@TheFanciestPants I'm in a very similar boat, had my baseline scan yesterday which showed a number of cysts that weren't there before so my cycle has also been cancelled. Have you been advised to take the contraceptive pill? This is what they've told me to do 🤦🏻‍♀️

TheFanciestPants · 30/08/2023 19:06

@April623 oh no! Gosh, I feel so bad for you especially with all of your organising for travel, it's horrible being in this position but better to stop now then go through hormones and EC for a bad result.

I have a scan first thing tomorrow where we will discuss next steps. But I think it's not uncommon to have these issues. Either my smaller follicles will have caught up or we will cancel.
I understand to stop my normal dominant follicle for my next cycle they suggested to down reg which I think is normally contraceptive pill type things. I have been frantically googling and it's actually been shown to slightly improve chances of good eggs in my situation.

I am also going to ask to switch from Gonal F to Meriofert as my main stim as I have heard good things about it being used in my circumstances.

April623 · 30/08/2023 20:40

@TheFanciestPants Thank you. I feel bad for you too 😩 The whole thing is so frustrating. I hate the uncertainty and lack of control. Yes it was hard enough lining everything up to go abroad without this!

Good luck for tomorrow and I hope it's a good outcome for you... you never know🤞🏼

fsr111 · 01/09/2023 11:55

How did you get on at your scan @TheFanciestPants? Had all of the meds arrive yesterday. AF due on Monday, first cycle for me and feeling very apprehensive. Where is everyone else in the process?

TheFanciestPants · 01/09/2023 12:00

@April623 @fsr111 thanks for checking in.

Not good news. Outcome was expected, dominant follicle ready, secondary follicle almost ready so cycle cancelled and will start down regging in 4 weeks (or so!) in the hope of recruiting more follicles...
Not the best start to the IVF journey but I wanted to give myself a chance for a few more eggs rather than rushing into an EC.

Good luck to everyone starting in the next few days 🤞🤞🤞

April623 · 01/09/2023 13:07

@TheFanciestPants Oh no I'm sorry to hear this even if it was expected! You are right, it's no good starting with a significantly reduced chance, it's 100% better to wait. But I feel your frustration! I'm likely to be on a similar timescale, currently waiting for my prescription for the contraceptive pill 🙄

Good luck @fsr11 and to everyone else. I will stay here and watch your journeys while I wait 🤦🏻‍♀️ x

Stormspass · 02/09/2023 13:14

Joining the group as I am 38 almost 39 and on day 6 of stims.

We have never TTC and went straight to IVF after deciding we want children late in the game.

Scan yesterday showed 10 follicles but Ovaleap dose was increased from 150 to 250 yesterday. I was surprised for less follicles as my fertility assessment in June showed 16.

High AMH so will need an FET due to OHSS risk.

Injections have been fine but weirdly sometimes they hurt and sometimes they don’t.

Emotions ok so far except a wobble last night. Very concerned with covid increasing as EC should be end of next week so have split the house up into zones - maybe an overreaction maybe not :)

wish you all good luck on your September journeys x

bloss0mx · 02/09/2023 16:31

@Stormspass - Warmest welcome and definitely not an overreaction with covid. We are about to start our first cycle in a few weeks but unfortunately both down with covid and already concerned if it would impact the outcome. Better to take precautions than not. Hope all goes well. 🙂

Does anyone know if covid has any impact on egg and sperm quality? x

TheFanciestPants · 02/09/2023 16:52

@bloss0mx yes, if you have Covid badly with a temperature it can have a significant negative impact on sperm quality (the urologist we saw asked my husband with MFI if he'd had Covid and said it's quite common!).
Not saying that to be scary (as hopefully you'll both be grand!) but I would definitely get your partner to have an SA before going ahead with the cycle xx

bloss0mx · 02/09/2023 17:07

@TheFanciestPants - Thank you! Just had a Google and it says even with mild covid, it can impact for 3+ months. 😰 We are going through the NHS and seems like they just want us to get going because of my low AMH. Guess we can only hope for the best... 🙏

Stormspass · 02/09/2023 17:37

@TheFanciestPants thank you for the warm welcome. I did ask my clinic what would happen if DH got covid at the time of EC and they said there are other options such as freezing the eggs and collecting sperm afterwards.

Hope that helps
