Hi there, I start my medication for a fresh IVF round in September. Im not the best at navigating mumsnet and wondering if there are any groups set up for people starting around the same time? X

@fsr111 good luck for your injections.

Things I have learned;

  1. once you’ve got past the skin you don’t feel it going in
  2. the closer to the centre line of my stomach the less I felt them. Almost felt nothing in the middle
  3. the ones did furthest from the middle I felt more

Even the ones I felt were totally fine and not too painful at all.

Youve totally got this.

I also got alcohol wipes for injections from my local pharmacy for about £3 for 100 (had to ask at the counter as they weren’t on the shelf) tried boots and Superdrug who didn’t have any.

Thanks @StormsPassIVF, that's really helpful tips on the injections, I'm also a bit apprehensive about it, so will keep this in mind!

GwenH82 · 06/09/2023 19:49

@StormsPassIVF thank you for the injection tips. Hopefully things will go fine tomorrow evening.

2020toast · 06/09/2023 22:34

@StormsPassIVF

I'm also having my EC on Friday. Just got the call from the clinic this afternoon. At the moment I've got 4 follicles between 18-14mm so I'm hoping we can get mature eggs from them.

Have you been told a time yet? I just triggered at 10pm.

StormsPassIVF · 07/09/2023 07:00

@2020toast yes same! I had my trigger at 10pm last night and due at the clinic on 9am Friday.

I have no expectations on numbers at the moment as I had one follicle at the right size of the 12 but they wanted to go ahead Friday instead of postpone until Monday. I am guessing the expect some others to catch up.

As it’s my 1st round I’m fully putting my faith in the Drs (otherwise I could obsess and read a ton of stuff online and worry possibly for no reason).

Although I really do hope for more than 1!!

I was so excited for no injections today as I had to do 3 yesterday haha

Good luck for Friday : )

bloss0mx · 07/09/2023 09:23

Good luck @2020toast @StormsPassIVF for tomorrow - keeping everything crossed for yous! 💕

StormsPassIVF · 07/09/2023 10:45

Thank you @bloss0mx 😊 will give an update when I can x

GwenH82 · 07/09/2023 17:29

Well after worrying all day the first injection was fine. I didn't even feel the needle going in. I can do this!

StormsPassIVF · 07/09/2023 20:39

@GwenH82 thats awesome!

@fsr111 hope your first one went easy too!!

fsr111 · 07/09/2023 21:03

Good luck for tomorrow @StormsPassIVF and @2020toast! Keeping everything crossed for good results.

First injection was totally fine for me too. I did panic afterwards because I didn't see any air bubbles and it said about air bubbles, but I'm sure it was fine! Haha! Glad all went well for you too @GwenH82.

Floralsandsmiles · 07/09/2023 21:07

Hi everyone, can anyone advise in regards to their pessaries they are prescribed, how many times a day are you asked to take these? And are they 200mg? I have been prescribed Utrogestan xxxx

2020toast · 07/09/2023 21:10

@StormsPassIVF good luck for tomorrow, I hope it goes really well.

@GwenH82 I'm glad they went well. And you do get used to them as the days go on.

@fsr111 thank you! I used to be really careful with the air bubbles but I noticed some medications like zomactin bubbles a lot and it's hard to get alllllll the bubbles out. I end up just leaving the very very small ones and going for it. Otherwise I'm sure I'd have to wait ages clicking the syringe which maybe makes me late?

Rebma81 · 07/09/2023 22:37

Very best of luck for tomorrow @2020toast and @StormsPassIVF ☺️Let us know how you get on! I think I’m a week behind you if things go to plan - I’ve got my first scan & bloods post injections in the morning, fees like l this first bit has flown by. I’m intrigued to see what’s been happening..!

2020toast · 08/09/2023 12:36

Had my collection a couple of hours ago and they retrieved 2 eggs. Although I feel a bit bummed about "only 2" I also have been on this rollercoaster 12 times previously and know that it is really about the eggs making it to day 5 if they fertilise. We'll find out tomorrow how many fertilised.

I keep reminding myself that when we had our daughter in 2019/20, we only got 3 mature eggs that round and only 1 "slower growing" embryo. So I am a literal testament to the old "it only takes one".

TheFanciestPants · 08/09/2023 13:13

@2020toast 2 mature eggs is good news! I love your attitude and I do think there's a false perception of everyone needing loads of eggs and embryos for success.
Fingers crossed for some good fertilisation and embryo updates xx

StormsPassIVF · 08/09/2023 13:13

Thank you to everyone for the good lucks 😊 @2020toast that’s really positive you got 2 and as you say quality over quantity. I have my fingers crossed for you for the next 6 days.

For anyone nervous about egg collection pleased to report the experience was great. I had sedation but it felt no different to a general anaesthetic. Probably the easiest part of the whole process.

The suppository I had to pop in my bum on the other hand, bloody hell that itched for about 45 minutes!! It was unbearable 😂😂😂

We we’re lucky enough to get 11 eggs but don’t yet know how many of them are mature.

Frozen transfer plan has now changed to fresh if any make it to day 5/6

Well done on your injection @fsr111

StormsPassIVF · 08/09/2023 13:16

@Floralsandsmiles I’ve been sent home with pessaries and am as lost as you. All I know is one morning and one in evening.

Once my instructions are uploaded to the portal I’ll let you know if I find out anything more

Aww OK, thank you @StormsPassIVF ! Mine are 3x a day as they are only 200mg. So would total to 600mg a day. Most people have cyclogest and these are 400mg x2 a day, totalling to 800mg. Xxx

StormsPassIVF · 08/09/2023 15:40

@Floralsandsmiles So I have just checked, one in the morning 400 and one at night 400 as well as a progesterone injection. I reckon these doses would have been based on your blood work as everyone has different natural progesterone levels xx

Aww OK, this makes plenty of sense! Thanks @StormsPassIVF as I know my progesterone levels weren't low, so this makes sense they haven't prescribed me a high dosage xxx

2020toast · 09/09/2023 13:24

Hey,

So got an update today - out of the 2 eggs, one fertilised and the other broke down after being injected. We have PICSI this time around.

So if it continues to grow as normal until Monday, day 3, it will be frozen and the plan is to continue another cycle to her hopefully 1-2 more before we start with uterine investigations and check my lining is okay, before starting FET. We will hopefully have PGS carried out. So many hurdles.

StormsPassIVF · 09/09/2023 14:26

@2020toast thats a good start that one is on the move! I hope you are happier with your new clinic and great you’ve planned another cycle too.

We got our call today and 9 of 11 have fertilised. However I am keeping my expectations in check because from all of my reading, even with those numbers people often end up with one or two by day 5. Which seems also to be a similar outcome to those who start with 2 or 3.

Important also to note that we went straight to IVF only because of my age (almost 39) we felt that would give us the best chances.

Hope everyone is getting on well with their stims!! xx

TheFanciestPants · 09/09/2023 15:39

@2020toast that is great news, it only takes 1! Please can I ask why you have had PICSI over standard ICSI? We have MFI so always interested/nosey about such things.
Excellent update @StormsPassIVF , keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Small update from me, I am pretty sure I did ovulate both my follicles (after mildly disastrous stims cycle) so back to the standard 2 week wait for me!

StormsPassIVF · 10/09/2023 06:46

@TheFanciestPants sorry to hear that! Did the clinic confirm you ovulated? Do you start stims again after your next period? Hope you don’t mind the questions, no need to answer if you don’t want to xx

TheFanciestPants · 10/09/2023 08:37

Hey @StormsPassIVF, no worries! My ovulation is pretty obvious and wouldn't want the fuss of a scan (unless I have to!). I have 100% record of knowing phase of my cycle and ovulation side (I appreciate in any other context that's a weird thing to say but it's nice to find some positives in this difficult journey!).
My cycle was cancelled due to a dominant follicle on each ovary stopping the other follicles growing, hence why I was keen to check on double ovulation. I ovulate around day 11/12 so this is a pretty common IVF outcome on short protocol. I told my clinic and mentioned the other early symptoms I get in a normal cycle, so with hindsight I shouldn't have been stimming from day 2 (way too late for me!).
I only get one NHS cycle so given I was informative and even asked them about this outcome possibility, they cancelled the last cycle and are letting my try the long protocol (recommended for short follicular phases) after I have ovulated this coming cycle.
So, I'll be starting Busrelin in around 4 weeks and then starting to stim once my ovaries have chilled out a bit (depending on how the double ovulation impacts my luteal phase!).
We are having IVF due to particularly severe male factor issues but we had a miscarriage at the end of February (all the doctors are very surprised this happened!), so maybe it can happen again for us (clutching at straws 🤣), hence back to the normal 2 week wait for now!
Fingers crossed everything is looking good for your egg clutch xx
