@IVFfirsttimer91 ok - great news that it's early so you can get it done and know what's happening. For six weeks those numbers sound super high to me so I'm not sure what your clinic was expecting? In fact I'm a little surprised that they have said that they're only half the amount they wanted because 44,000 seems incredibly high for 6w2d!

loulamay · 27/07/2023 16:19

@ttcsolomumtobe thank you for sharing - so interesting. I want to go to a sperm picking party! that sounds so fun! haha

I totally understand about the cultural background. Glad that you found an option you were happy with 😊

Olivia199 · 27/07/2023 16:19

@IVFfirsttimer91 .. I'm really surprised at that lovely! Hopefully this gives you some hope. Xx

Got my lining scan confirmed for tomorrow at 9:30. Glad it's early. Just wanted to say thank you all - I know we don't know each other in person, but it's lovely to have the support from a group that at least understands what it's like to go through this process! 😍

IVFfirsttimer91 · 27/07/2023 17:30

Thanks guys. I think it’s just they’re concerned that it hasn’t doubled normally like they would expect. If my levels had doubled every 48 hours like they should have, they should be around 58000 today. So to hear the number was a real shock to me. As long as I have one baby that is looking viable in my womb at my scan tomorrow I don’t care about the number. I’ve kept my original scan on the 7th as well, I don’t care about paying another £200 if it means I can check my baby is growing properly

Because I'm nosy but also because any distraction is helping me at the moment, I am so interested to hear about the process and choice of donor embryos and sperm. You can absolutely tell me to mind my own business! But what information can you find out? Do they give you the choice to match things to yourself like eye/hair/skin colour? And what happens about the anonymity of the donors in the future?

Like I said - hugely personal question so please don't answer unless you are comfortable xx

Not a lot of choice, when it comes to embryos

Obviously they take your main characteristics, like hair and eye colour, as well as blood type, and then ask you if you want and embryo with those characteristics.

For me it was literally "we have this 3AA embryo, blood type A+ and O-, brown eyes, brown hair, from double donors. Egg donor was 22.do you want it?"
And it was a simple yes or no question.

There's no catalogue, when it comes to embryos!

loulamay · 27/07/2023 17:38

Again, so interesting. AWESOME grading though! creme de la creme!

"After your hCG level passes 6,000 mIU/ml, it may take more than 4 days to double."

I'm really quite surprised that they are calling you in for a scan based on your numbers. In fact, I'm almost a bit cross on your behalf that they are making you worry like this. With those numbers I think you should be only feeling reassured.

Is Your Pregnancy Still Viable If HCG Levels Stop Doubling?

Learn how the hormone hCG tends to double every two to three days throughout the first four weeks or so of pregnancy, but may vary among women.

@loulamay - glad it's nice and early and fingers crossed for you! Hoping to hear happy news. So glad to have this space, it's been really lovely!

@IVFfirsttimer91 - Absolutely, always lovely to keep an eye on that little growing bean! You'd expect HCG to take four days plus to double once it's over 6000, so I honestly can't see any issue. Fingers crossed for your scan!

"After your hCG level passes 6,000 mIU/ml, it may take more than 4 days to double. You can usually expect your hCG level to stop rising between week eight and week 11 of pregnancy. That is the time period during which the hormone tends to reach its peak." (Taken from verywell)

Doctor was really lovely, I've got a temp and my heart rate is quite high so obviously fighting an infection. She's happy that everything will be fine with regards to the pregnancy though (and congratulated me! Which felt really lovely!). She's prescribed some antibiotics to take if I'm not feeling better by Saturday, but said it might be a case of having this viral illness knocking around for weeks and it's finally taking hold now that I'm exhausted, mega busy and pregnant... fair enough!

@IVFfirsttimer91 I’m sorry the clinic have caused you so much worry. Fingers crossed everything is alright at your scan tomorrow.

Olivia199 · 27/07/2023 17:48

Though she did make me book in for an asthma review... purely as I'd said I didn't feel any need to use ventolin as I didn't feel wheezy. Except, I have quite a pronounced global wheeze. 29 years of it, a fully fledged medical professional and STILL classed as a crap asthmatic.

I’m so sorry I have been awful at keeping up with everyone’s messages. Delighted for those of you with positive news and sending strength to those who haven’t had the news they wanted.

I am having the biggest wobble. I spent most of yesterday crying and it’s continued into today. I have every symptom I usually have before AF appears; so bloated, cramps, sore lower back, sore boobs. I know they say the symptoms are similar but I feel so defeated as I’ve only ever known this feeling to mean AF will be here at any point. Test day is still Saturday and my husband really wants us to hold out until then (he’s taken the nurse at the clinic saying only test on Saturday otherwise might be false positive due to drugs very seriously). the fear of this failing again is weighing so heavy. Sorry for the doom and gloom!

Olivia199 · 27/07/2023 18:22

@21C - Oh I'm so sorry you're feeling this way lovely. If it's any help at all, this is exactly how I felt on my first round. I had every single symptom of my AF to exactly the same degree as I always had it. Not a damn thing was different! Until I turned 6 weeks and then I started puking.. I even had the dragging feeling down below that it was hours away. Its so stressful but absolutely doesn't mean anything. For me it wasn't similar symptoms. It was the exact same!!

Wishing you all the luck in the world for Saturday. X

@loulamay - So. Sperm!

I had a similar situation. My clinic had an in house sperm bank so I got to choose from that. It was like tinder for sperm. You could filter by looks etc and I made it mainly ones that looked similar to me.
They have a profile with their basic appearance (eye, hair colour, height, weight), whether they've got kids and if so how many of each. They had a box citing reasons for donation, one with a goodwill message to any child born and one with an "about me".
My donor was perfect. His "goodwill message" specifically said something about "your parent(s)" and the fact he put the s in brackets made me feel even better. He had a huge life story under his about me too. His eye colour was different to mine. He had blue eyes and mine are green. Which means my DD would have either green or blue eyes. And she got the most beautiful mixture of both.
I went to my parents and we drank champagne and whittled it down to a final three but his profile was just perfect for me so I went with him.

My DD can access that information and I have a copy of it, but she can get his last known contact details and identifying info at age 18 where she can choose to contact him.

I also donated eggs so I went through the same paperwork and any child born of my donation can also contact me at 18.

I've gotten in touch with, by accident, another solo mum who used the same donor. Meaning my DD has a half sibling out there. So just navigating that and what relationship they could have!

@21C aww this is exactly how I’ve felt today, like exact symptoms I’d get in the week lead up to af started today (would technically be due this weekend). My test day isn’t until 4/8. I know these symptoms can all be caused by pregnancy/medication but feeling them today has just put a downer on it. My husband is a sickening optimist so it’s hard to talk to him at times, he’ll be so positive when sometimes I just want to cry that it’s not going to work and think about our next steps.

Bristol1988 · 27/07/2023 18:37

@IVFfirsttimer91 good luck at your scan tomorrow, fingers crossed for you

IVFfirsttimer91 · 27/07/2023 18:43

Thank you so much for all the support everyone, I’m 100% not sat here crying because of how kind everyone is being.

I feel reassured that levels may stop doubling after 6000miu/ml. I guess it’s just a wait and see game until tomorrow now.

I’m nervous as anything, but also I can’t wait to see that screen tomorrow. I’m praying to see a healthy bean this time round xxx

21C · 27/07/2023 18:45

@Bristol1988 its so difficult I think when you feel these things because your only association with them is AF. It’s really thrown me the past couple of days as I’ve actually been fine up until then. Hope you manage to last until the 4th, I’m so glad Saturday is nearly here although at this point I’m 98% sure AF will be here before then.

I also have a very optimistic husband! Especially this time as we have 1 frozen too so he thinks either way super positive; if it works it’s the best surprise ever and if it doesn’t we’ve got another shot anyway. Just hard when you’re in the trenches feeling every niggle to even think about it not working

21C · 27/07/2023 18:45

@IVFfirsttimer91 sending you so much love and luck for tomorrow! Please keep us updated will be thinking of you 🍀🍀🍀

loulamay · 27/07/2023 18:48

Optimistic husbands unite 😂

God bless them - I think it's the only way mine knows how to be. They have such little control over it all and can't feel any of the symptoms. I suppose rather that than have them be unsupportive!

LittleAm · 27/07/2023 18:53

Thank you for the support today ladies 😘 I finished work, got my pjs on and have a take away!

omg my husband is soooo optimistic 😆 it doesn’t help 🙈
