FET/IVF/ICSI July 2023

Hello!

Just wanted to start a thread and see if anyone was going ahead with a transfer in July.

I've just had my nurse consult and hoping to have my second FET in July (my first was successful in Jan 2021 and I had my wonderful DD).

The first time around I was of course beyond nervous, excited, terrified it wouldn't work etc. This time it feels like that's doubled! I'm a private patient so I've saved everything for this but should it fail, it'll be a long long time before I could afford to try again.

To add some nerves, I'd need to be cycle day one no later than the 6th July to go ahead, as my clinic is moving locations. I'm currently due on the 5th...! So every chance it's moved to a Sept cycle.

Would be nice to have some company!

:)

Try not to over worry about mixing the vials, once you get the first couple out of the way, you'll be a pro 🙂

Hello - I would love to join as well. All being well my FET will be 31st July or the day after. Ours is a bit complicated because we did our IVF rounds in South Africa when we lived there but moved back to the UK in 2021 and left two euploid frosties over there. We are very lucky to have a daughter who is almost 21 months from a frozen transfer and we relocated when I was pregnant (during COVID - I wouldn't recommend it 😆).

We all went back to South Africa in April and did another embryo transfer but sadly it didn't work. Naively I thought that having PGS-tested embryos and a successful birth from one prior would mean this transfer would work as well. Have I learnt nothing over the years?!?!

I stop the pill on 9th of Jul and start estrofem on the 13th. I'm actually flying out alone this time for the last try with our remaining frostie because we can't afford flights for all three of us. My Dr wants to do progesterone in oil shots this time just to make sure my levels are ok - my husband is terrified of needles plus I'll be on my own for the first ones - has anyone done them on themselves before? I was on Clexane for my pregnancy but those are in your tummy/thigh so the angle is easier!

Don't really want to think about what we do if this one doesn't work - I'm 43. Age is a bugger and a half.

Lou

@Hopingforno2in2023 I'm not sure what's classed as high or not but mine is starting at 300 so a little lower than yours. Thank you for the reassurance @Justkeepmoving1234 :) I can only imagine the pressure, but it's great it worked first time before and I imagine there is just as much chance of that happening again. Although I also really struggle with the uncertainty of this whole process.

@loulamay I'm sorry your last transfer wasn't successful. It sounds really tough to be going back alone, do you have any family/support in SA whilst you are there?

Justkeepmoving1234 · 28/06/2023 17:16

Hi, sounds like you have a lot going on! But it's exciting!

I did the shots myself throughout IVF, my husband is also terrified of needles, to the point I had to hide them in the fridge!
Once you get the first one out of the way, you'll get into the swing of things! I found it helped me feel more in control, when everything is a bit uncertain.

Also, age is an absolute bugger!!

loulamay · 28/06/2023 18:20

Thanks @Justkeepmoving1234 - I've watched a couple of youtube tutorials for the PIO and will just have to brave it!

@Walker12 - the last time we went out all of our friends there knew why we were going and I felt such pressure, like the whole thing was an 'event'. So I'm not telling as many people this time, but have three girlfriends, one of whom is also doing IVF out there as well with the same Dr as me, so can definitely call on them for support. The good thing about SA is that it's on the same time zone as here, so I can call home a lot! I also work remotely so will be able to work there, which will be a good distraction.

Been TTC for 2y, and finally got past NHS funding, and today was our first information session. I'll be starting my meds next month. I'm so nervous, excited, overwhelmed. Got diagnosed with unexplained infertility, which sucks. I have clockwork 28d periods, which last 4-5d, 13 follicles in each ovary, no medical conditions (although my BMI is 28, ie overweight). I turned 36 last week. I have absolutely no idea what to expect for the next few months. This will be my first IVF/ICSI, and first child ever (if all goes well).

loulamay · 29/06/2023 11:18

Welcome @scaredynoob . Totally normal to be feeling all the feelings! Great news that you have funding though - I've not had any experience with the NHS with regards to IVF so I can't comment on that but I would say the best advice I ever got is just take it all one day at a time - everyone is different and you might be the kind of person who takes control through planning or listing out your meds for example (like me - I needed something I could 'do'!) or maybe your partner will do that part and you can just go with the flow. We all handle it differently. Great news on follicles - that's a fab number. Happy to answer any questions! When do you actually start?

Thanks @loulamay .. I've been asked to start Provera from 13th July.. I'll be undergoing treatment at St Barts. I'm just so worried about my BMI, although the doctor said "unexplained", maybe I've been unsuccessful naturally just because of that. I've not been able to shed those thoughts.

Olivia199 · 02/07/2023 10:11

Morning everyone! How are we doing? Those who've started treatment, how are you feeling?

I've woken up with tell tale signs that AF should be here soon enough. So hopefully I'll be making that July round after all!

It'd be a million times easier than trying to organise a Sept cycle in terms of work and shifts so I've got everything in the world crossed.

Morning!!

Feeling very anxious here today, as we have our transfer tomorrow. I am mentally prepared for the 2ww this time, though I’m going to be so anxious until I see (hopefully) that positive test! How are you?

Olivia199 · 02/07/2023 12:00

Oh how exciting! But I absolutely understand those nerves. The TWW is horrible, the only solace I could find was that technically it was 5 days shorter for a 5 day transfer. Any nice plans to get through the time?

I'm alright thank you. Sort of patiently waiting for AF.. 100% have my heart set on going this month so it really needs to not be playing with me.

IVFfirsttimer91 · 02/07/2023 12:30

I know what you mean about the wait for AF. Though mine was so weird this month. No symptoms at all, and I had barely finished bleeding from my MC so I wasn’t sure if it was actually my period or not. Booked in for a scan anyway and turns out it was in fact my period! So got lucky there!! I don’t have any plans really for the 2ww. I’m going to wFH as much as possible though (aside from the day after transfer where I have a 4 hour meeting in london 😭). Mainly going to try and relax as much as possible and work my way through American horror story from the first season again. At least I have a better idea of what to expect from it this time though. Fingers crossed we get another positive!! Will be a bit heartbroken if we don’t. But will be trying again on the next cycle as our last attempt for the year if that happens. I think 3 rounds of ivf in one year is all I can take lol.

Olivia199 · 02/07/2023 13:50

Oh bless you lovely, I'm sorry that happened. I agree, three rounds is quite enough for anyone!! But here's hoping that this is your last and successful round this year!

AF has GOT to be round the corner. I am feeling ultra emotional and grumpy. Though I'm also not being afford a huge amount of sleep from my DD so I guess that could be ramping things up.
I swear, if I Google one more time "how to make your period come already", I'll have to declare myself an expert.

An expert in the fact you basically can't!

Hope your transfer goes well today @IVFfirsttimer91

I am also impatiently waiting for AF to arrive.. due on the 6th, feeling a bit obsessed and frustrated already so no idea how I will cope with the 2ww! Hope yours arrives promptly @Olivia199 ! If you do discover the answer for bringing on AF please do share 😂

SH998 · 03/07/2023 12:52

Hi Ladies,
I hope you don't mind me joining in the chat. I'm currently waiting for my 4th transfer which we hope will be the end of next week. We have 3 frozen embryos so this will be our second FET.

Olivia199 · 03/07/2023 16:19

Welcome @SH998 !!

Hope the transfer went well @IVFfirsttimer91 !

My uterus seems to be playing me. All AF symptoms go and not a bloody peep from her. Trying to maintain my zen...

IVFfirsttimer91 · 03/07/2023 18:26

Hi guys,

Yep all went well for the transfer :) thanks for thinking of me! Now is the hard bit!!! My test date is the 15th. I waited the full 12 days before testing last time. Don’t know if I’ll have the same resolve this time though 😂. Hope everyone else is doing ok!

IVFfirsttimer91 · 03/07/2023 18:26

@Olivia199 what a pain!!! I’m sorry! Maybe she will come in the middle of the night. Mine always seems to 😂

IVFfirsttimer91 · 03/07/2023 18:28

Hi @SH998 ! Fingers crossed that you get the date next week! Waiting to get the go ahead seems to drag on for years xx

IVFfirsttimer91 · 03/07/2023 18:29

@Walker12 thanks!! Fingers crossed for you for the 6th!

Labradoodlepup · 03/07/2023 19:33

Hope everyone is doing well! The waiting is excruciating.@Ellenn looking more like the first week of August now but all down to AF’s big appearance. I’m crossing my fingers that it’s not too late this month to mess up flight dates! Are your dates looking to be the end of July still?

Olivia199 · 03/07/2023 19:34

@IVFfirsttimer91 - Yay! Congratulations on being reunited with the little embryo. Here starts the first of many anxious waiting games. You're impressive to hold on till then. I was a total nightmare and tested in the evening of 4DPO last time.
I was extremely lucky to get a VERY early positive and then went to bed with all my happy thoughts. Only to wake up the next day, excited for my FMU test and.... negative.
Turns out I don't do so well drinking water during the day so my bedtime pee is the most concentrated. Must have drank tons overnight and it watered it down too much.

@Olivia199 what a pain!!! I’m sorry! Maybe she will come in the middle of the night. Mine always seems to 😂

I hope so. I tend to be a middle of the night kinda deal too. I mean, technically I'm not due until Wednesday but as the cut off for treatment is Thursday it all feels a bit close for comfort!!

IVFfirsttimer91 · 03/07/2023 20:05

@Olivia199 why is the cut off Thursday? Is the clinic closing for a refurb or are you going on holiday? Xx
