FET/IVF/ICSI July 2023

Hello!

Just wanted to start a thread and see if anyone was going ahead with a transfer in July.

I've just had my nurse consult and hoping to have my second FET in July (my first was successful in Jan 2021 and I had my wonderful DD).

The first time around I was of course beyond nervous, excited, terrified it wouldn't work etc. This time it feels like that's doubled! I'm a private patient so I've saved everything for this but should it fail, it'll be a long long time before I could afford to try again.

To add some nerves, I'd need to be cycle day one no later than the 6th July to go ahead, as my clinic is moving locations. I'm currently due on the 5th...! So every chance it's moved to a Sept cycle.

Would be nice to have some company!

:)

Thank you @orchid29 , she still seems to be the last man standing. Every single person at the little party is down. Except her. I'm very very thankful for that!

@ASGIRC - Eeeep! All feeling very exciting now. One more sleep for you and two for me! I've got my big old box of cheap tests and will probably get some first response ones.

fingers crossed for olivia and ASG!

my meds just arrived, bit scary how much there is!

AnaS86 · 18/07/2023 11:11

Hi everyone, I had my collection yesterday and they managed to get 14 eggs. I've now had confirmation that 11 have fertilised. All being well, transfer on Saturday.

I really hope your transfers go well this week @Olivia199 and @ASGIRC

Fingers crossed for your Friday test @wtawtaw and yours too @orchid29 when the time is right. I'm also sending good vibes your way @21C

Those are such good numbers :-) I'm just at the start of the process. Had my baseline scan today. Although I was told my BMI is 28/29 (apparently NHS cut off is 30)... I'm really worried my first round will be negative. I cannot get over the negativity and anxiety.

wtawtaw · 18/07/2023 11:23

@AnaS86 thank you 🥰
You have some great numbers there! Fingers crossed they develop well over the next few days! X

21C · 18/07/2023 11:26

@AnaS86 great numbers! Fingers crossed for you they keep going!

today is day4 for us, the embryologist said they wouldn’t call me until day5 now but I could call them if I wanted an update. Torn at what to do!

Lauralozzle · 18/07/2023 12:30

@AnaS86 That’s a great fertilisation rate! Fingers crossed you get a decent number of blasts!

@21C Hang in there!!

ASGIRC · 18/07/2023 13:12

@Olivia199 glad youre feeling a bit better! Hope the toast stayed put!

@AnaS86 amazing numbers!!! Fingers crossed they continue to develop!

@21C hang in there! Youll get your update tomorrow!

21C · 18/07/2023 13:17

@Lauralozzle @ASGIRC thanks both! Was torn between phoning and finding out what’s happened on day4 but also not phoning and having one day extra of hope incase anything does go wrong! I think I’ll just leave it and let fate run its course whilst still praying they have kept going!

ASGIRC · 18/07/2023 13:22

@21C calling today will not change any outcome.
I'm hopeful your embryos are developing and they will reach day 5 in good nick!!

I have texted my doctor about the diazepam and how long I should be taking the progesterone.

Also, been googling (I know!) and loads of places saying you can't wear nail polish, deodorant, perfume, moisturiser... Because they could be harmful to the embryo.
And I'm like... Sure, if I was to spray perfume in the procedure room, I can see that. But otherwise?

Ladies who've had their transfers, did anyone tell you not to do those things?
I asked my clinic if, besides a full bladder there was anything else I should do, and they said no!

TheBirdintheCave · 18/07/2023 13:28

@ASGIRC No they didn't tell me not to. I'd read the same things online though and didn't use any strong smelling things on the day.

wtawtaw · 18/07/2023 13:32

You got this @21C!

@ASGIRC my first clinic told me to remove nail polish, not wear deodorant or anything scented - same for my husband. We had to take our shoes off before entering the transfer room.

My second clinic only said don't wear perfume and that deodorant and nail polish was fine. My husband was given shoe covers. Personally, I took my gel polish off and didn't wear deodorant or moisturiser, nor did my husband - I just wanted to do everything I can.

21C · 18/07/2023 13:38

@ASGIRC you are so right, it won’t change anything except maybe give me one more day of upset! I’m definitely going to leave it and just wait until tomorrow. Praying so hard they make it.

Having had one previous transfer my clinic did advise no scents to be worn at all whether that was deodorants or moisturiser etc. same went for husband as he was in transfer room with me! Probably a precaution more than anything but we followed it anyway!

another thing I’m wondering - yesterday the embryologist said if no embryos were suitable for freezing on day5, they would offer us a day5 fresh transfer (freeze recommended due to 20 eggs collected) but they’ve had me on blood thinning injections since egg collection; will that impact anything if it’s a fresh transfer we end up going for?

Bristol1988 · 18/07/2023 13:38

@ASGIRC I’ve been told no deodorant, perfume, hair spray, make up, nail varnish, moisturiser and to shower before without using a strong smelling body wash. Same for my husband.

Walker12 · 18/07/2023 13:51

@AnaS86 that's great, I've had my egg collection today and they got 9 eggs. Not sure what happened to the others as they predicted 15. But trying to stay positive and hoping we get a good fertilisation rate!

orchid29 · 18/07/2023 14:08

@ASGIRC we were told no strong perfume and no artificial nails because the latter can interfere with the pulse meter.

I personally followed the perfume part but didn’t worry about anything else because let’s face it the doctor and the nurses in the room probably wear moisturiser as well.

orchid29 · 18/07/2023 14:09

but it’s of course important to do what feels right for you!

Olivia199 · 18/07/2023 14:21

@ASGIRC - It says on my transfer letter not to wear perfume, Deodorant or anything with a smell. And to shower with scent free shower gel before. It was the same last time I transfered (and same goes for anyone going with you).

Olivia199 · 18/07/2023 14:23

@21C - Can definitely understand the desire to know but also not. I have everything in the world crossed for your embryos.
I know a lot of people continue on blood thinners throughout first trimester so I can't see it being an issue.
Though - out of curiosity - are you on progesterone? During my freeze all I asked on day 3 if there was any chance of a fresh transfer as I really did feel fine with no OHSS symptoms. They said it wouldn't be possible as I hadn't started progesterone.

ttcsolomumtobe · 18/07/2023 14:24

@ASGIRC good luck for today! Re products yes I got told than nothing with a smell/make up etc and no false nails /nail polish etc.

@Olivia199 hope you are feeling better and wow, just one more day wait for you... It's all getting very exciting!

@21C I think holding on to hope and seeing what tomorrow brings is a good shout, much just be so hard though so big hugs!

@scaredynoob welcome (sorry think this is the first time I've seen your name, so if I'm wrong) re the BMI situation, if you are under the 30 you should be fine. I have not seen anyone mention they have been weighed before starting treatment and a gain during is likely anyway. What I will say from experience is I was just on the 30 (private self funded but still a 30 or below criteria) and the stressing over it has lead me to eat more and do less as I feel in a grump so if you can just sit back and think you are under target weigh, just a few more weeks of eating health, doesn't mean cutting everything out, it's defo moderation and will be worth it. Unfortunately moderation is what I'm not good at but it's a stressful time and we all have different coping ways. Maybe get some high protein Yoghurts that will fill you or treat yourself to wonderful fruit.

@AnaS86 that's great numbers, hope everything keeps heading in the right direction.

@Hopingforno2in2023 yay for meds arriving, I think for me that was the point that it all felt very real and soon!

21C · 18/07/2023 14:53

@Olivia199 no I don’t even have progesterone, I didn’t have it for my last transfer either I wonder if it’s to do with different protocols? Last time we transferred a day3 and I had a dose of ovitrelle to take 2 days later to support lining. I’ve got same again this time but not sure if anything would be different given that a freeze all was advised. I feel totally fine too RE OHSS symptoms so hopefully not an issue

AnaS86 · 18/07/2023 16:24

Does anyone have any tips for reducing bloating after egg collection? I still feel really uncomfortable today!

ASGIRC · 18/07/2023 16:44

Thank you @Olivia199 @21C @Bristol1988 @TheBirdintheCave @orchid29 @ttcsolomumtobe @Walker12 @wtawtaw

I have emailed the clinic and asked directly what I was supposed to do re diazepam and progesterone and one of the nurses emailed back with the protocol.

I then asked her about what id read, re perfume, etc and she said they recommend no perfume, and odorless deodorant, but nothing else.

I was already planning on not wearing perfume, as what id read, saying the embryos are sensisitive to strong smells made sense, and some perfumes do have staying power.
I was definitely going to use deodorant, cause its the middle of summer, in Portugal, and I will be using public transport! if embryos are sensitive to smell, I bet BO is also on that list!!!!
But mine is roll on, and doesnt really have any smell. I will avoid using the spray one in my handbag, as that one has a strong scent (it is based on a fragrance, so it makes sense!)

Im starting to get excited/anxious! Its tomorrow!!!!

I also want to shout it from the rooftops, but also dont want to say anything.
You guys are the only ones who know... No one is my real life knows Im doing the transfer tomorrow. Ive been lowkey lying/omitting to every single person who asks how the baby thing is going...

So I will be going solo to my transfer. And thats ok.

orchid29 · 18/07/2023 17:06

@ASGIRC Good luck for tomorrow!! I also haven’t told a lot most of the people close to me (just one friend i made more recently and my wife ofc). Where are you based in Portugal? i’ve been dreaming of moving there for a long time!

My wife and i are doing shared motherhood (her eggs and my uterus) and when i shared that with some of my family they reacted really strangely/negatively. It made me realise how protective of the whole thing I feel. so now i haven’t told my family about the transfer. Felt like the right decision!
