lucymills1234 · 09/02/2022 18:14

Hi all

Congrats on EC @Justawannabemam hopefully you get good news at your next update.

Hope all those waiting for next steps are coping ok. IVF is a constant waiting game…

I’m feeling incredibly sad and deflated. I had EC on Monday and 12 eggs were collected which seemed promising. I haven’t felt the best since, but I don’t think it’s OHSS.

But I lost all hope when I got my fertilisation update this morning. Although 10 of the 12 fertilised, only 3 did so normally. 4 are really abnormal and completely out of the running. Another 3 fertilised abnormally but have shown development signs so they could, in theory, get to day 5. But realistically my chances sit with the 3 normally fertilised which feels like a tremendous disappointment after the EC numbers.

Rationally I know that some people would be delighted with 3, that it only takes 1 etc etc etc. But I can’t help but feel devastated at the drop, and realistically at my age (42) I’ll be lucky if anything gets to transfer.

Apparently the abnormal fertilisations aren’t a sign of age or quality, just too many sperm have got to the eggs at once. I was thinking this would be my last round and if it is this would be such a frustrating way to go out.

Trying to retain some hope but I am really really struggling. Seem to have a lot of bloating still as well and (TMI) needing to wee a lot & urgently - wondering if somethings going on.

Sorry for the moan but I had been really hoping after all the sh*t up to this point (5 transfers, 4 BFN, 1 chemical, clinic issues) I might be due for some better luck. Gutted that doesn’t seem to be the case Sad

thislittlebird · 09/02/2022 18:15

@Justawannabemam It can't hurt to carry on with the rest since they're normal supplements? I'm glad to hear you're back and got 7! Frustrating about the uncertainty around days, it's a tough process all round. How are you feeling physically?

I feel like a weirdo, I don't mind cyclogest that much, but then I haven't done it twice per day yet (only once when we did OI) and that will get annoying I'm sure. I did request cyclogest so I could take them rectally though, I know with utrogestan it's vaginally only.

Great news @NaomiNatNat, they wouldn't give me mine just got to look at a screen and remember so I tried to remember the range.

LuckyNovember · 09/02/2022 18:27

@lucymills1234 the ups and downs are horrendous, aren't they?! Of course it's less than you hoped and it's completely fine to be a bit disappointed about that... after all, a dozen eggs was quite the bumper crop!!

The thing is... all that stuff the say about it only takes one... Of course it's true if one of those three will be your baby 🙂

12 eggs is a whole year of regular TTC!! and you've zoomed through that, and narrowed it down to the best possible three chances, I'd call that highly efficient!

It really does sound like you're due some good luck, it really can still be on its way, and I really hope you get it ⭐️

thislittlebird · 09/02/2022 18:31

@lucymills1234 sorry you're disappointed but fingers are crossed for those three, as @LuckyNovember says, they could be the one!

Justawannabemam · 09/02/2022 18:31

@thislittlebird I feel fine

I had a little nap . Gutted I never got any toast .haha . But we went for some lunch afterwards.

So I drop the Q10? I'm sure I read someone say that's they what they done ?

How are you feeling?

thislittlebird · 09/02/2022 18:42

@Justawannabemam good that you’re feeling well, the nap sounds nice. I’ve been promised tea and custard creams so I’m looking forward to that lol

I think people drop the q10 but I honestly do not know why, maybe just because it’s not tested on pregnant women and women going through IVF?

thislittlebird · 09/02/2022 18:43

I’m fine, thanks! I’m a little worried I’ll feel worse once we do the trigger later @Justawannabemam

NaomiNatNat · 09/02/2022 18:55

@LuckyNovember Yep tonight at 9 😃 I need to google the ovitrelle shot video. Don't want to mess it up lol

@thislittlebird why didn't they?, mine showed me on the screen and let me take a pic of the stats on the measuring graph!

@Justawannabemam ❤ oh I really hope so. I stopped taking myoinositol and q10 right before I started Ivf just in case it doesn't mess with the cycle but I would ask my nurse

thislittlebird · 09/02/2022 19:08

@NaomiNatNat I just watched that video! I dunno, they just didn't seem interested in reading them out. They did show me the screen and I could have asked to take a photo but I didn't think of it at the time.

lucymills1234 · 09/02/2022 19:16

Thanks @LuckyNovember for the optimism. Unfortunately it was explained that those that did fertilise aren’t necessarily the best, because the issue was the actual fertilisation process (too many sperm). So it could be there was a great egg but it didn’t fertilise properly and all the ones that did could be duds - or it could be that by coincidence there’s a good one in the 3, only time will tell. I’d just rather have had more to go into these next days with when the drop off becomes steep.

Appleby11 · 09/02/2022 19:36

@LuckyNovember thank you! I have cyclogest which might be similar. Dreading them. Whoever invented panty liners need a medal 😂

@lucymills1234 I had 13 at EC, 9 fertilised and I have 2 in the freezer. It is a hard figure to digest, especially starting at such a good amount. I'm thinking about mine that it might be something about the quality of something somewhere.

LuckyNovember · 09/02/2022 19:40

You're not out yet @lucymills1234 🧡

When will you get the next update?

Mochii · 09/02/2022 19:55

I had 13 fertilised, 13 at day 3 which were all looking really good and then 1 left by day 5. That one was a BB and I now have a daughter as a result of that one embryo.

Do people think in my case that it is most likely a sperm issue or egg? I have no idea! I was never told why they didn’t make it, just that these things happen.

lucymills1234 · 09/02/2022 22:16

Next update will be tomorrow @LuckyNovember

@Appleby11 yes, this is my fourth round so I’m used to a big drop off after fertilisation and before day 5. Am just not used to such a low level of fertilisation as a starting point. I’ve had 7/11/12 fertilised on previous rounds and ended up with 1, then 5, then 2 blasts. So it feels that 3 is too low a number for anything to make it to transfer, given my previous experience. I desperately hope I’m wrong but I know odds aren’t in my favour.

@Mochii you had a really good fertilisation rate to get started with. The decline after that could have been sperm if there are male factor issues, or egg quality, particularly if you’re over 38. I can’t remember the exact stats but about 70% of eggs collected are expected to fertilise and then of those, there can be about a 60% drop off to day 5 - I think that’s roughly right but can’t be sure so I’d check.

Hopeful199 · 10/02/2022 05:44

@womaninkent and @LuckyNovember I’m with you and waiting til test day. If it is BFN then I only want to see that once! Testing early and convincing myself it could change is too much. If positive, I would rather it had stuck and was a true positive too as have had a chemical in the past and that is also heartbreaking. My head and heart just can’t handle the multiple testing.

@lucymills1234 I’m so sorry you are disappointed with the numbers. The waiting and unknown of all of it is just so so hard. Really hope that they all progress nicely and you have some blasts to work with. Absolutely everything is crossed for you x

TTCinmy40s · 10/02/2022 08:30

How's everyone treating covid who is in the 2 week wait? Are you carrying on as normal or limiting contact or trying to isolate as much as possible?

lucymills1234 · 10/02/2022 09:01

Thanks @Hopeful199. It’s so gutting to think I got good egg numbers and may have lost eggs that could have been ‘the one’ just because too many sperm got to it at once. My clinic called it unbelievably bad luck.

@TTCinmy40s I’m not strictly isolating, but am not mixing either, if that makes sense. Still going to shops when needed etc (wearing a mask). I’ve always taken an approach of sensible precautions and so far, so good.

lucymills1234 · 10/02/2022 09:03

@Hopeful199 with you on only testing at OTD as well. That’s always been my approach. I had a chemical, too, although I got a BFP on OTD and it was about 4 days later that I discovered the chemical. It’s heartbreaking, as you say. Fingers crossed for you.

Hopeful199 · 10/02/2022 09:04

@lucymills1234 that is so gutting.
Would ICSI help if you did decide to do another round?
All just feels so unfair and so massively down to luck! 😔

Justawannabemam · 10/02/2022 09:15

Update for me.

Out of the 7 , 6 were viable to fertilise. 5 have made it . Monday for transfer.

Any update from anyone else. ?

WhiteLily86 · 10/02/2022 09:44

@Justawannabemam

That's great news. We just had the call, out of 10 eggs 7 have fertilised normally. 1 might come back into race but counted out for now. So scared at how quick they can whittle down the numbers....but just trying to repeat 'it only takes one'!

He said they will call sat morning with update - might be required through for 3 day transfer but most likely day 5 on Monday same as you.

What are you doing to take your mind off it? Have you changed lifestyle and diet much?
