IUI 2022

Anyone looking to pursue IUI treatment in the new year?

I'm currently on cycle 18 with unexplained infertility and waiting for my NHS IVF referral appointment in January. In the meantime DH and I are looking to do some IUI cycles privately while we wait.

I have my baseline scan and consultation with Create Fertility next week.

@Nellie90 Aw glad you've found this cycle a lot more pleasant than last time. Good luck during this TWW and let's hope this is the last time in a while you'll need to go through one 💞 Keep us posted!

Hi, how’s everyone doing? How are you hun @unCliche

unCliche · 19/05/2022 15:52

Hi @Shrut89, I'm good thanks! Things are pretty uneventful with me just a little tired. How are you? You must be close to your OTD now?

OP posts:
Shrut89 · 19/05/2022 16:18

What happened @unCliche, I hope everything is Fine with you. Please take care. Yes my OTD is close.

unCliche · 19/05/2022 16:23

@Shrut89 everythings alright, just not much is happening right now. I'm 5+1 today so basically waiting for my scan in two weeks😊 I've been waking up really early, like 3-4am so I'm constantly tired. How's your TWW going? Any symptoms??

OP posts:
Shrut89 · 19/05/2022 16:30

No symptoms @unCliche i know in my head that I am starting IVF next week. All medications have been ordered just have to go and pick them up today. How was egg retrieval for you? Did you take anesthesia?

unCliche · 19/05/2022 16:57

@Shrut89 at least there's something to look forward to if things don't work out. And I guess it makes your TWW easier knowing that you have a backup plan 🙂 but I wish you the best of luck and hope your BFP is right around the corner!
Egg retrieval was fine. I was sedated and when I woke up I felt no pain.

Shrut89 · 19/05/2022 21:09

I am so scared of egg retrieval @unCliche they won’t be sedating me, just few heavy pain killers. Let’s see how it goes. If this IUI works I will be Gods fav child, as the count number was not that great.
did you go with regular IVF or ICSI or PICSI, for is my doc chose PICSI.

unCliche · 19/05/2022 22:37

@Shrut89 You'll get through it. The painkillers will hopefully stop you from feeling too much pain. Could you request sedation if you're not comfortable with being awake?
My DH and I did ICSI and all mature eggs were successfully fertilised with 3 embryos at the end so PICSI should give you good results.

@unCliche I wanted to ask, was it 3 rounds of IUI you did before moving on to IVF?

I'm in the 2ww with a few days left of waiting. I'm wondering if this hasn't worked to move on to IVF next as hopefully I'd get a few embryos and better chance. I just found it too daunting and they recommended IUI for my age (31) and no know fertility problem just using donor sperm. We really love the sperm donor and will have one left so wondering if it's enough to do IVF with so will have to check up on that!

unCliche · 20/05/2022 23:18

Hey @Nellie90 I didn't even make it through one round of IUI 😂 We got to insemination day and we didn't have enough sperm after washing so I chose not to go ahead. We initially wanted to do three cycles while we waited to start IVF but after that first cycle we didn't bother with any more.

With IVF, you only need as many sperm as there are eggs so I wouldn't worry about not having enough - as long as the vial has at least 20 in there, I think you'll be ok 😁 If this round of IUI doesn't work out, then IVF will give you a much higher chance of success. You're young so your egg quality should be fine and since you're using a donor, his sperm quality must be excellent so these will go such a long way in producing good embryos. I got through the IVF cycle pretty unscathed. I found it very uneventful, underwhelming and boring, so I guess most of the fear comes from the not-knowing. I think you'll surprise yourself with how well you'll deal with things 🙂

Hey @unCliche ! Ahhh I see! It's great to hear you've had a smooth ride with IVF and that it's worked too!!

The donor we used had over 20 million after washing and 100% mobility so at least it sounds like we've paid for good stuff 🤣.

I might be getting ahead of myself and just need to wait. I'm 10days post IUI so a few more days to go and we shall see. I did a test this morning which was negative but it's still at least 4 days until my period it due 🤞🤞

Shrut89 · 22/05/2022 06:25

Hey @Nellie90 the count sounds really good. All the best hun.
@unCliche what was your dose like? I am so ready for IVF, how did you feel with your ovaries with the stims? Did you feel bloted or you were good? Looks like I have so many questions as I am getting closer.

unCliche · 22/05/2022 15:01

@Nellie90 Wow that's an impressive post-wash count and motility! You're definitely getting your money's worth! There's nothing wrong with mentally preparing yourself for IVF and if this cycle works out, then not having to need IVF will just be a bonus.

@Shrut89 My dose kept increasing as I went along because I wasn't responding well. I started on 125 of gonal-f, went up to 150, then it was increased to 225, which seemed to be the perfect dose. My ovaries felt normal, I never got bloated or had any symptoms. Even after egg collection I had absolutely zero signs of OHSS. I felt pretty normal all the way through my IVF cycle and still feel very normal now (just a little bit more tired). I think I got lucky.
Feel free to ask as many questions as you want but remember that your experience will completely differ from mine.

@unCliche realised I put mobility rather than motility 😂oops!

Well I'm out unfortunately. I'm pretty sure I won't bother with another round of IUI and will talk to the clinic about IVF. Will have a break for a few months though and enjoy some holidays and have a rest.

All the best with your pregnancy! ❤️

Shrut89 · 24/05/2022 16:55

Hi ladies, just took my preg test and I can see the second faint line what does this mean, I have had got faint lines with my earlier IUI as well which turned into chemical preg. So don’t want to keep my hopes high.

@Shrut89 There's definitely a line! Cautious congrats!

Aw@Nellie90, I'm sorry, it sucks that IUI didn't work out for you but hopefully IVF is exactly what you need. It's good to have that little break before starting IVF, gives you time to reset and prepare. Keep me updated on how you get on!
