Anyone looking to pursue IUI treatment in the new year?

I'm currently on cycle 18 with unexplained infertility and waiting for my NHS IVF referral appointment in January. In the meantime DH and I are looking to do some IUI cycles privately while we wait.

I have my baseline scan and consultation with Create Fertility next week.

Hey ladies, sorry for my disappearance. I just had to stay away for a bit and not talk anything IVF for a while. I did do my FET last week and got a BFP today. There's a lot of apprehension but there's not much else I can do but take things a day at a time.

@Twittwoo2020 Congrats on making it with your little embryo! That's such good news. Good luck at your 11 week appointment. Keep us updated!

@Shrut89 Wow! Amazing numbers! Do you know how many made it to blasts? I'm sure you'll have loads to freeze! Glad you're going for a frozen transfer, I've heard OHSS can be terrible.

Hi @unCliche not loads but 4 with 4AA grade which they say is very good grade. I have set up a call with my doc that what happened with other embryos why they stop growing after day 3? I was expecting a bit more numbers as well. But again nothing is in our hand.

Hi @22Mama, how are you doing? Good luck with your IUI, I really hope you got your BFP! It seems when I take a break from IUI I take a break from coming on here too! Reflexology is basically a foot massage but apparently all the parts of your feet are linked to different parts of your body so they can work on your uterus/cycles for example! I find it very relaxing and always nod off! I had 2 sessions last month and 1 last week and just had my 4th IUI 2 days ago so am currently in another 2ww!
To keep busy we've just been meeting up with friends and had few weekends away at the seaside!

@Twittwoo2020 Congratulations on your BFP! So good that you saw a heartbeat and everything was ok at both of your scans!

@Owl86 My NHS clinic does the hcg trigger every cycle as standard (medicated or non-medicated), 36 hours before the IUI, whether you ovulate naturally yourself or not. Mine do ovulation tests to check your natural LH surge, which can determine when you have the IUI, but they will still give you the trigger anyway even if you are surging on your own. I guess it just makes sure so there's no reason not to have it.

Sorry to hear your 4th IUI didn't work @Shrut89 but fingers crossed for your IVF. It took us 5 IUIs to get pregnant with our daughter and now we're on our 4th IUI this time already.

Well medicated IUI #3 was also a fail.

Went to doctor and we are going to start IVF. Waiting in the heath insurance to approve it all before I can start so September is out. I think we will start all that in October.

I'm taking the break actually more welcome. Originally I was like I want to start right away, etc, but now that we have to wait anyways, I'm like - taking a breath for the first time again.

Any helpful tips before we start?

@unCliche I'm so sorry to hear that this one is chemical and hasn't worked out. You must be feeling exhausted and I hope you get lots of rest for a few months.

@22Mama I hope you're doing okay after the 3rd IUI not working. I know it feels like a kick in the guts when that negative arrives.

I think we won't be in the new house until later this year the way it's going so far so I think the next round will be in January. I'm still not 100% sure on trying another IUI or go for IVF but more likely to try another IUI. Most of my SS couple friends didn't have luck with IUI and went straight for IVF and had twins! So I know people that have had plenty of rounds of both and some that were lucky on first. Sometimes it seems like pot luck! Wishing you all the best ❤️

Thanks for writing me. It hasn't been an easy one. I guess, I was kinda apprehensive after the second, but DH sperm count was so so good it was like normal or better. We have unfortunately lots of issues so 😬. Now just a waiting game for insurance and my doctor and all that stuff to then be able to really start IVF.

Anyone have any tips to throw my way? I'm a bit nervous for sure.

@Nellie90, I don't blame you for wanting another go with IUI, and yeah it just seems like luck of the draw sometimes doesn't it?!

Hi everyone, thanks for your kinds words. I had a scan yesterday at 10+5 and everything is going well, baby is measuring exactly as it should and has a good heartbeat.

I realise how incredibly lucky we are, our journey has taken us 2.5 years to get here with 1 ectopic 3 months into our journey 2 years ago. I have learned some valuable lessons along the way that might be helpful to share. I put off getting fertility treatment because i kept thinking it would happen, in hindsight i probably should have started fertility treatment over 1 year ago. I also gave IUI two go’s but again in hindsight I probably should have went straight to IVF, i know IUI works for some people but I personally feel with the success rates I maybe should have looked at things differently. For my round of IVF i did this during one of the most stressful times for me as we were smack bang in the middle of buying a new house; however I truly believe this helped because it gave me a totally different focus and i didn’t have time to obsess over the IVF process. I also didn’t go down a rabbit hole of what you should/shouldn’t be doing during a cycle. I simply took my meds, followed the guidelines given by the clinic post transfer, had a healthy diet 75% of the time but also allowed myself treats and takeaways because life is hard enough without restricted yourself that much.

My post egg collection journey was stressful I went from having 10 embryos to only 1 on day 5 but that 1 was all we needed.

Be kind to yourselves enjoy the things you like to do/eat and be open and honest with a friend/partner about how you feel as the meds can play with your hormones!

I am so happy for you, just a few more weeks are you are out of the first semester!!!

I am trying to really embrace this next phase with IVF, and I am so hopeful it will work. I rubbed some silly statue for fertility luck while traveling, may the silly statue work for me! Haha and science with my hard working doctors of course! They are the heavy hitters naturally, but the statue is to help my mind convince my body to agree!

Anyways, keep us updated in how you are doing in pregnancy! Any big changes for you ? Are you showing yet ?!

thank you for sharing your journey and tips that with us. I am really hopeful our Embroy transfer in oct works for us. Fingers crossed. It’s been a lot that we have seen in last one year. But glad to have supportive partner.

I am travelling to my home country in couple of days the. FET in oct with a refreshed and rejuvenated mind and body.

Hey girl, hope all is going well for you. How goes the progress for 3rd IUI?

I kinda fell off the forums, I was a bit sad after it felt like one failure after the other.

3rd IUI was a failure, we then moved to IVF. When we did IVF we got 19 eggs (I was thrilled told 18/19 looked good), and when we tried to put everything together my eggs just wouldn't do it. All 19 down the tube. It was hard to hear, devastating really, we got the call 1 day after they got my eggs out... Not a single one had come together with sperm to make an embryo 😳 !!!!!!

I had been so freaking hopeful😭. So now after 2 more months of waiting, (well 2 weeks for my period after all the egg retrieval and OHSS, and one month waiting for abnormal period) we will be starting second egg retrieval process tomorrow (my day three and first day into shots again). We begin out first try with ICSI in 2 weeks time after all these shots.

Now that the shots start again and we are lowering my dosage I hope I don't get OHSS (or at least so badly) this time. It was really rough having all the side effects AND nothing to show for it. A total mindboggle. I felt truly awful. I was passing my days listening to Taylor Swift's new album and crying in the mornings before work and at night before bed 😂 LOL! I can laugh about it now, but it was really really rough. Honestly I'm still pretty freaking anxious about it all. Starting again then having the eggs and possibly being told I again have nothing to show for it. I'm so nervous I'm barely functioning.

Anyways I hope you guys are all doing well. Send some updates !

*Cross your fingers for me that after this egg growing process, at least some of the eggs will become embryos !!! Then we hope for baby's to stick! But first we gotta make them!

@22Mama lovely to hear from you!! I'm so sorry to hear they couldn't use any of the eggs. 19 is a lot I think! It sounds like you've been having a rough old ride and must be exhausted. Taylor swift is my guilty pleasure and I do not blame you 😁when are you due to have your eggs retrieved again?

@Twittwoo2020 how are you getting on? You must have had your 12 week scan now. How's everything going?

I had my 3rd round of IUI and I'm currently in my 6th week 🤗I have an 8 week scan booked for the 15th of December. Still can't believe it seems to have worked. I didn't feel any different and didn't get a positive until the day I was due! I've obviously since done about 8 tests 😂

@Nellie90 - yeah, getting the "not a single one was fertilized" phone call gets added to worst moments for sure. Honestly I was in complete disbelief it wasn't until the next day I started crying non-stop. Taylor Swift is my guilty pleasure too! And she had really helped me to come to feel better. So I am day 5 in ovaleap and today is my first cetrotide shot. Tomorrow is first check up for day 8 of my cycle and so I'm just crossing my fingers I make enough eggs and not toooo many like last time and I'm praying, hoping, wishing that my eggs are finally cooperating with the ICSI method this time. I am hoping for what seems like a Christmas miracle- cliche as that sounds. The miracle I'm hoping for isn't even a baby yet, I'm just hoping they tell me the eggs and the sperm worked together! Then I will worry about the baby sticking, but I just want so badly for them to make an embryo, and not be told again that my eggs and his sperm didn't work at all. I'm all nerves and a my feelings are a total flutter!

My wife definitely doesn't want to know the gender but I think I might be tempted but I don't think we will! I really don't mind either way but I think it's the fact that you COULD know that's tempting 😂

Im 24 weeks pregnant now and have been getting on fine. My 1 embryo actually split and it was twins but one didn’t develop so it’s a single pregnancy now, just so thankful we’ve gotten this far.

I finally got my BFP on December 28!!! 7 weeks and 3 days ! I can hardly believe it. I keep taking tests. Gonna go to my gyno on Wednesday and hopefully we get to hear baby !

@Nellie90 I'm 9 weeks today! Due September 1 🥰 had 2 early scans as I still have some OHSS symptoms like the enlarged ovaries etc. So so swollen it's insane but hopefully that will get better soon !

Congrats to you as well! Do you guys know the gender or want to know ?

@22Mama oh that must be very sore!! Have you had much sickness? I found that so tough as it was never ending 😂. Seems to have all stopped now though thankfully.

We're not going to find out. Think it'll be nice to have a surprise as really don't mind either way. Are you going to find out?
