IUI 2022

Anyone looking to pursue IUI treatment in the new year?

I'm currently on cycle 18 with unexplained infertility and waiting for my NHS IVF referral appointment in January. In the meantime DH and I are looking to do some IUI cycles privately while we wait.

I have my baseline scan and consultation with Create Fertility next week.

@Twittwoo2020 that's amazing news! Congrats on such good numbers 💕 I found out I had a missed miscarriage on Friday and finally induced the miscarriage yesterday. Fetus got to 8 weeks but no heartbeat at 10.

Sorry you got a BFN too @22Mama. It sucks. What did your doctor say about back to back cycles or leaving a gap? Are you going to try anything different?

We're having a month break and I just started having reflexology again today! I had it when trying for our first child and I like to think it helped, but you never know. I also had acupuncture first time round, and I've heard both can help with fertility, but I preferred reflexology. Has anyone else tried either of them?

That sound like good numbers @Twittwoo2020! Hopefully some made it and you had your transfer today?

Oh no @unCliche, I'm so so sorry to hear your news. It's heartbreaking. Wishing you all the best, how are you doing?

Nellie90 · 06/07/2022 21:16

@unCliche I'm so sorry to hear your news. Sending you lots of love in what must be such a tough time right now. Look after yourself ❤️

22Mama · 13/07/2022 20:40

@TwoMommies

Hi again, sorry I was a bit MIA. I am a teacher finishing up the school year. Last 2 days this week so it's been very busy. My doctor did talk to me and said, skipping should be a problem, sometimes it even helps because you take some stress off the body physically withva break from hormones and mentally! I could have been fine physically, but mentally I needed this break! Maybe my body would disagree and be happy for the break too, but just on how I felt I think it wouldn't have been an issue.

That makes me want to try acupuncture! Also what is reflexology! I will be googling that as soon as I'm done with my reply! Lord knows I am willing to try anything to help!

I'd love to hear about it!

Anyways I'm hoping to catch my next cycle end of July, and if not then I will inquire into IVF! So we will see!

How are you doing ? What are yuh doing to keep busy?! Any traveling with the family, fun day trips etc?

Shrut89 · 14/07/2022 23:34

@unCliche I am so sorry to hear this news, please me storing, I can understand your pain. How are you feeling?

22Mama · 15/07/2022 05:34

@unCliche
I hope you are alright. ❤️
Sending lots of kind thoughts, love, and care to you and your fam!

unCliche · 27/07/2022 11:06

Hey ladies, how are you all doing? Thanks for the wishes, I'm doing alright now. Just waiting for AF to arrive so I can get my FET cycle started!

@Twittwoo2020 how did you get on with your transfer?

@TwoMommies I did acupuncture for a few months. I'd like to think it helped but who knows. Hope the reflexology is the missing trick and things work out for you.

How are things going for everyone else?

@unCliche glad to hear you are doing ok.

I got 10 eggs, 7 fertilised but only 1 made it to day 5 and that was transferred and I am 6 weeks pregnant today. I’m cautiously optimistic, I had my first scan yesterday and everything is looking good and there is a heartbeat. There was a 2nd empty sac so I have to be rescanned again in 2 weeks. She said there is absolutely no life in it so doesn’t expect any change in 2 weeks and it’s not uncommon for this to happen and the 2nd sac will just be absorbed by the other sac. I am feeling fine overall the odd cramp that’s it.

Im on edge though so hard to enjoy the time as your constantly worried about what might happen. I thought yesterday after seeing everything in the right place and it not being another ectopic id relax but i’m still up the walls!

Glad you had some embryos frozen so you don’t need to go through the whole egg collection again, keeping my fingers crossed for you for this cycle.

Shrut89 · 27/07/2022 21:39

Hi @unCliche All the best for your FET and good to know that you are doing ok. Al my best wishes to you.
congratulations @Twittwoo2020 i hope you are doing Absolutely well, all the sticky thoughts to you.
i had my IUI again last week the count was not that great but let’s see the results next week. My doc gave me vaginal progesterone as well this time.

Nellie90 · 08/08/2022 11:41

Hi all! I hope you're doing well. I'm wondering about trying another IUI round (it would be my third) before going into IVF. My last round was in May and we wanted a break before doing anything else as it was quite emotionally draining. I don't have any fertility problems that they know if and have very regular periods but I'm in a SS couple but the first 2 didn't work. Do you think it's worth trying another before heading into IVF? We only have one lot of donor sperm left as we bought 3 and if we did IVF we might be able to get a couple of embryos but if the IUI didn't work we'd need to buy more sperm but IVF is very daunting and time consuming with work!

22Mama · 08/08/2022 14:06

@unCliche & @Twittwoo2020 & @Shrut89 how goes everything ? I am hoping good and sticky thoughts for you all!

@Nellie90, I am not in a SS, but faced the same feelings about the 3rd IUI. We also took a break after 2 failed IUI's. The second one felt very hard to take as a failure. I also wondered if we should just start IVF already, but my doctor really recommended I do the third one, although in our case that's simpler since my husband is the donor. ... Well what's to say simpler, both of us actually have fertility problems so I suppose not that easy. I was also intimidated by the IVF process, but I guess I feel that, I was also pretty intimidated before the IUI process, so if this third one fails, I will just do my best to keep a positive outlook. I do not know you, but I think you must be very strong and I hope you and your partner will be able to decide together what you think is best!

That being said I started my 3rd IUI and the insemination was today, so put the sticky thoughts out there for me too ! Like you @Shrut89 I was also prescribed more progesterone, so let's hope 3rd ones a charm huh ?

Hang in there ladies!
Sending baby dust all over!

Nellie90 · 08/08/2022 14:32

Hi @22Mama thank you for your kind words! It definitely was a big blow when the second IUI was unsuccessful. I'm feeling ready to try again though and think I might be worth one last shot. Free sperm is always a bonus! Haha I've heard after 3 goes they say to change sperm donor anyway so if it didn't work we'd look at getting it from another donor. I hope the next 2 weeks aren't too hard because I definitely thought the wait was the worst part so sending you all the best.

@Twittwoo2020 congratulations! I hope everything goes smoothly for you!

@Shrut89 how are you getting on with this round? Is this round 3 or 4?

Owl86 · 08/08/2022 16:38

Hi all, I'm due to start my first IUI next cycle. The plan is to try 3 cycles (first two natural, third maybe stimulated) before moving onto IVF, since we've been TTC for over 18 months now.

Please can I ask those who've been through this already... What are your thoughts on using a trigger shot in a natural IUI cycle? In some ways I'd prefer to go with my LH surge, particularly as I found some studies which suggested this may lead to higher success rates in natural cycles. But on the other hand I think I'd worry about getting the insemination timing wrong and missing the egg!

@Nellie90 Sorry your first two cycles were unsuccessful. I was under the impression that your chances keep rising until the third or maybe fourth attempt, after which they plateau? So it could be worth one last shot, if you feel your emotions can take it. I feel super anxious already and I haven't even started Cycle 1 yet!

@22Mama Sorry to hear your second cycle didn't work out, either. Fingers tightly crossed you'll be third time lucky!

Shrut89 · 09/08/2022 00:29

Hi @Nellie90 my 4th IUI cycle was a BFN even though I took vaginal progesterone for 14 days but still it didn’t work. Just because my my 3rd IUI was success but ended up in MC in 2 week we were shattered but still tried 4th IUI as we were pretty positive but nope it didn’t work. IUI is so much emotional draining. I literally cried with my husband on this cycle and finally decided to go for IVF.

@22Mama @unCliche @Twittwoo2020 @Owl86 another update I am on day 3 of my IVF stims we jumped on IVF as soon as I got BFN from my IUI everything is going good so far, I don’t have needle fear so injections are fine as of now. My egg retrieval will probably on 17 or 18th August. I need prayers from you all.

sticky and positive vibes to everyone.

Nellie90 · 09/08/2022 08:18

@Owl86 welcome! It is daunting at first but honestly once you're there having the first insemination, it's actually like having a smear test and will be over in minutes.

I did my first round with clomid and I'm not going to lie, didn't react well to them and felt like I'd lost the plot for a few weeks. The 2nd I went natural so was much easier, no side effects to be dealing with. I think it's worth trying the drugs to up your chances but it's totally up to you. I never needed a trigger shot as I always ovulated and as far as I'm aware they'll only give it to you if you haven't ovulated so if you surge naturally, you won't need it 🙂.

@Shrut89 all the best luck with your first IVF round! You've been through a lot so I'm really hoping this one is successful for you 🤞

Owl86 · 09/08/2022 14:44

@Shrut89 Glad to hear everything's going well with the IVF stims so far. Wishing you the very best of luck for your egg retrieval!

@Nellie90 Thanks for sharing your experience. 😊 Given our particular circumstances and reasons for trying IUI, we've ruled out stimulating meds at least for the first two cycles. But even though I don't have ovulation problems, our clinic is still recommending I take a trigger shot instead of going with my LH surge. The decision is up to me, of course - but I keep going round in circles! Fingers tightly crossed for your third cycle, should you decide to go ahead. 🤞

Shrut89 · 10/08/2022 01:19

Thanks @Nellie90 and @Owl86 tomorrow will be my first blood work, I hope and pray I am responding good to injections. I have a low dose due to high AMH and I ovulate on my own regularly. Fingers crossed. Around day 7 they will be doing my ultrasound I hope to see some nice follicles.
I am just so scared about egg retrieval as they don’t give anesthesia here in Canada.

Nellie90 · 10/08/2022 15:20

@Owl86 ah yes very much depends on individual circumstances! If they offer you the trigger though, I'm sure it's worth having 😊try and be reassured that a natural cycle is actually very easy going. I got scanned on day 10, 12, booked for the 14 but was ovulating so told me to come back the next afternoon be inseminated and that was it! Just to put some time frames in there for you.

Twittwoo2020 · 10/08/2022 19:47

Thanks for checking in Ladies, I am 8 weeks today and so far so good, I have had 2 scans so far because my only other pregnancy 2 years ago was ectopic so I am high risk. I was discharged from my clinic yesterday so my next appointment will be at 11 weeks in the maternity hospital. I wake up everyday thinking something is going to go wrong today, I know I should be more positive but i’m genuinely so scared.

For those that are still doing IUI it definitely can work it’s a personal choice how many rounds you want to do. For my Husband and I we decided max 2 rounds which we did an both failed, my husband has no issues and nor do i we were just completely unexplained fertility. After our 2 rounds failed we moved straight to IVF we got 10 eggs and only 1 embryo made it to day 5 but that transfer worked.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you all!

Shrut89 · 10/08/2022 21:08

Hi @Twittwoo2020 congratulations on your IVF success, I am so glad it worked for you guys 😊. Please stay positive I know it’s very hard but try to indulge into medication and you can also join some apps which have day to day activity according to your pregnancy stage.

your success gives me so much hope. I am on day 5 of my IVF injections and today was my first LH blood work. So far so good, the injections are not that scary as I have thought. IUIs were very emotional draining for me and hubby.

@Twittwoo2020 you had a fresh transfer or a frozen? Any tips that you want to give me before egg retrieval, I would highly appreciate it.
ours is mid male motility issue.

Twittwoo2020 · 17/08/2022 13:55

@Shrut89 very best of luck with your egg collection. I brought fluffy socks with me on the advice of the clinic to keep my feet warm. Try not to worry or overthink everything too much, i know this is easier to say then do but you will have a long couple of days ahead of you after collection waiting for updates on how your embryos are doing.

Make sure to rest after the procedure, i came home and went to bed and eat little but often and not heavy foods. Drinks like lucozade sport are good for the electrolytes to try to prevent OHSS. I spent the following day in bed too as a I was a little sore. Just try to relax as much as you can.

I hope everything goes well and you get some strong embryos over the next few days!

Shrut89 · 17/08/2022 13:58

Hi @Twittwoo2020 my egg collection was yesterday Aug 16th, I was on a very short protocol just 9 days of stims. Egg collection was not as bad as I was thinking ( no anesthesia) I did it and proud of myself. They retrieved 18 eggs.

we are doing ICSI waiting for a call from my clinic to see the updates.

22Mama · 18/08/2022 11:35

Hiya ladies,

How is everyone doing ? I have been trying my hardest to keep very very busy! I am currently not working (summer break for a teacher) and have been SO much less stressed compared to when I did my last 2 cycles during the year. So I'm hoping that helps my outcome!

I've been doing cleaning, and learning better about our house plants (husband's a green thumb and I'm a brown thumb 😂), seeing, working on lesson plans for the upcoming year, basically any and everything just so that I'm not so consumed with the TTW.

Thank God for small favors this has been less stressful and consuming than the last two, but now I'm 4 days till testing (day 10 after IUI) and I'm starting to get my nervous tummy!

@Nellie90 - let's hope for us both that the third time is the charm. How is your cycle going, did you and your partner go through with #3? 🤞

@Owl86 - how goes your first IUI? Did you already have the insemination? My first two times I felt very weird on all the meds, bloated, tired, the first one I had SO many headaches, and both times I just felt like I must be pregnant. This time I feel no different minus 1 or two small headaches during the whole cycle, and some bloating, but I hardly notice any of it now. I think I got used to it 🤷‍♀️🫣. How are you doing? It's very emotional doing the IUI, I know I was a bit of a wreck.

@Shrut89 - Congrats on your egg retrieval 🎉🎊🎉! That is wonderful news! 18 seems like quite a bit, am I right? Keep us updated. I'm so hoping for you!

@Twittwoo2020 - so today you must be around 9 weeks🥳🎈🎊 ! Congratulations! I hope all is going well. I don't think it's strange to worry at all. Especially after all we go through to conceive, we know how hard it is to make, so I think it makes us thankful and worried when it finally happens! I hope your fears will subside as your pregnancy continues!

Wish me luck girls in 4 days is my last IUI pregnancy test and we will see from there !

Shrut89 · 19/08/2022 05:58

Hi @22Mama thanks hun, I am just waiting on How many made it to day 6 keeping my fingers crossed. I will be doing FET in Oct need some time off from meds. I was really confused earlier weather to go for Sept FET or oct, then clinic told me I have to start my meds in couple of days if planning for sept FET and I was like no I can’t take any med right now need a break 32 shots in 9 days were enough for me.
so planning for oct FET.

Nellie90 · 20/08/2022 14:00

@22Mama how's the wait going?! 😬

We're hoping to do the 3rd round in October/November as we're in the middle of buying a house and it's taken much longer than we thought so I think it would be too stressy to do both at the same time!! Fingers crossed we can do one in the next few months 🤞.
