First cycle of IVF - buddies please!

Hi everyone,

Been on the conception boards a fair bit but this is first time on the infertility section.
Bit of background - 28 and been TTC for two years for first child. Had one miscarriage about 10 months ago at 5 weeks. Had all our fertility checks and no major issues have been identified. Consultant suggested IVF for us so we are currently in that process.
Nurse consultation is 2nd July and then hoping it’s not long after then!

Looking for some buddies to keep me going through it all as hate all kinds of hospital things and to stop me over thinking about!

I have to collect mine, bloody pain they are like 45mins drive! I asked if they would post them and they just ignored me haha!

@Novavee I think it’s just the one test but I was only told about that when I had my bloods so who knows! I need to ring but keep forgetting.
My OH has invited his grandparents over the day before we go into isolation… they’re vaccinated but highly stressed about as they’ve never seen our new house so it’s going to need a full clean. It’s my second busiest time at work this month so told him the cleaning is all on him 🤣

For any one on the NHS - did you have to pay for your IVF meds? I thought we had to pay the prescription fee but they showed up a month ago and never had a bill?

@Ls2020 yeah I had to pay for mine, quite expensive actually! We just got a prescription from the clinic then went to a local pharmacy. They didn't give us enough stims so when we had our second tracking scan we had to go back and pay for another full prescription for like 1 injection which was annoying. Then seperate prescriptions again for the trigger and for the FET meds.
I think you might have scored so wouldn't say anything if I were you and wait and see if you get some sort of bill.

How is everyone doing?! I'm just still waiting for AF so I can ring the clinic and hopfully book in for my FET!

Hey lovely’s! Hope you’re all doing well. Great to see some positive news on here. 🥰
I am in full swing with stims injections now and have 2 scans this week ready for the egg retrieval next week. So excited and nervous now.
Strange one but feel I can speak openly to you all… has anyone suffered pregnancy envy? I don’t struggle seeing babies/pregnancy everywhere and anywhere in fact I love it! Love watching it on tv or hearing successes but my sister in law announced her unexpected pregnancy over the weekend and it’s broken my heart that I just feel the cards we have been dealt are so unfair and for her it isn’t even something she wants. Am I going mad or hormonal or is this normal!?

@CatMarina Hi lovely. Oh god you are 100% not alone on this! I’ve had 2 nieces and 1 nephew born since starting IVF and every time it’s made me think FFS why not us. It feels so unfair and no one who isn’t going through this will ever understand. Remember is ok not to be ok, be kind to yourself and remember your day will come ❤️

@dogmam I looked on the website and it looks like first delivery is paid for but yeah if I need extra stims etc I’ll have to pay so not awful I guess but can see your frustration!!
I am waiting for my AF - hoping Weds but might be Thursday. Boobs, cramping and spot outbreak are here so shouldn’t be long ☺️

@CatMarina no it’s totally normal to feel that way! My best friends little brother is 22 and he had an accidental twin pregnancy and I was like how did you get two and I can’t even have one!!! I have found it so freeing to talk to people about infertility and it’s amazing how many people have stories to share but know that’s not for everyone to do. But yes most importantly be kind to yourself and the right path will find you ❤️

AF due date and no show this morning.. is it bad my first thought was if I pee on a pregnancy test it’ll turn up 🤣🤣 TTC life!

@LS2020 it's funny isn't it. When you want AF, it's always late. If you don't want it, you can bet it will show up right on time (or early!). Here's hoping you can begin the process soon. If not today, hopefully tomorrow.

@Bryterlayter1 haha yes exactly! Well she did as they are prone to do.. as I was running out the door this morning 10 mins late with no pad on me (my fault!) she showed 😂

Booked to start injections tomorrow and first scan booked in for the unlucky Friday 13th!

@LS2020 ah how exciting that you are starting tomorrow!! Are you doing short protocol?

@catmarina when's your first scan? Hope you're finding the injections ok!! And yes I think it's totally normal to feel like that! I certainly do but deffinetly have days where things really affect me as days where I can brush things off x

@dogmam injections are going well, really do get used to them I think. Little sting for a minute and it’s done.
I had a scan last week baseline one then I had a scan today which went well and have another scan on Friday still aiming for egg retrieval on Monday next week and all is looking on track. Hope you’re well?

Any tips for egg retrieval day let me know 😊

@dogmam thanks! Yes I am so hoping only a couple of weeks now. I’m currently practising trying to do a covid test because I need to do one on test day but haven’t ever successfully done one - my tongue just won’t stay down! Dreading them rejecting my cycle if I can’t do one 😫

@CatMarina thanks lovely! The nurse said it would be a very lucky day for me which was very kind of her comment on. The weird tip I heard is you can keep socks on so to bring fluffy ones to wear to keep you warm - that might change depending on hospital though!

@CatMarina hope injections and scans are all going well! Please don't feel alone in this. I've found it easy to be thrilled for close friends' pregnancies but bitter toward strangers/casual acquaintances. Then I feel guilty for it. But we can't always control how we feel, just how we act on those feelings. This is a safe space.

@dogmam I'm sure you are anxiously counting down the days! Not long now!

@LS2020 it's off to the races! Hope you're finding injections ok? Hope your Friday the 13th turns out a lucky one :) Would you find it easier for someone else to administer the COVID test? Is that an option? Oh! And do brings socks. Not sure about every clinic but I was allowed my cosy ones.

Update from me: my clinic called today with my blood test results (I was too scared to test at home!) and it looks like this little embryo is sticking around. Whilst I know anything can happen, I'm feeling on top of the world today. I only had 3 eggs so I hope this gives hope to anyone who wasn't a "top performer" at egg collection. Baby dust to all. x

Only update I have is that the sperm is now at the clinic (Hoo-bloody-rah). So we are good to go once AF arrives in about 2 weeks time. Looks like I may be the last of the group to go through the process, but that means I get all the good tips from you all!

@ally0400 ahh that's amazing news, huge congratulations!! I bet you're on cloud 9.

@CatMarina hope you're scan goes well tomorrow and everything is on track for Monday! My clinic told me to bring a dressing gown, slippers, snacks if I wanted to, music to play during egg collection! I took all of those things and didn't use any! You're given a gown to wear so no need to worry about wearing a dress for ease etc. Also if you're anxious, I was prescribed lorazepam to take the night before and the morning of collection so was very chilled, so you could ask about that.

@Ally0400 omg congratulations! Has it sunk in yet?

Just done my first one (well OH did for me) and I was so shocked how painless it was. I used a cold compress and barely felt anything and I have a complete freak out with needles. Did take me 2 mins to move round to a comfy place as I kept blanching when he was approaching me with the needle 😂
I think they do the covid test, I don’t get a choice.

@CatMarina best of luck in the run up to egg collection. Pack some cosy socks! One thing to be aware of is that you can't go home until you've had a wee. So drink up once you're awake!

@Girlwholifts I had a fresh transfer of a 3 day embryo due to low number of embryos. It was grade 1 and 8 cells.

@Novavee it’s definitely a good feeling and I’m maintaining it dragged waiting 😂 I had my second busiest week of my working year though this week so I think mentally I knew I had that to go if that makes sense?
