First cycle of IVF - buddies please!

Hi everyone,

Been on the conception boards a fair bit but this is first time on the infertility section.
Bit of background - 28 and been TTC for two years for first child. Had one miscarriage about 10 months ago at 5 weeks. Had all our fertility checks and no major issues have been identified. Consultant suggested IVF for us so we are currently in that process.
Nurse consultation is 2nd July and then hoping it’s not long after then!

Looking for some buddies to keep me going through it all as hate all kinds of hospital things and to stop me over thinking about!

Hope I can join first timer for IVF had egg collection yesterday 10 egg collect just had my day 1 call and only 4 have fertilised. I feel disappointed how will the 4 get to day 5. Anyone share a similar story? What was your journey...

@hopingfor hi, I had 19 eggs and only 6 fertilised and was really disappointed so know how you will be feeling, it's an awful wait. By day 3, 4 were dividing but all had fragmentation so had no hope but by day 5, 2 had made it to blast and were frozen. The fact you had less eggs collected means the they are perhaps good quality so there's no reason why you won't have embryos make it to day 5. Are you having a fresh transfer?

@dogmam thanks for sharing - my first cycle is fresh cycle is that good or bad? I'm just concerned my day 3 will still have some eggs left! Not even thought about the quality...

@hopingfor welcome! Hope you get news about your remaining 4. I don’t have any experience with yet as just started my injections but it only takes one embryo so try not to worry too much at this point. Know is easier said than done.

Did anyone get told on their injections to only inject in 2/3rds of the length? My OH is having a hard time balancing at 2/3rds in and also getting enough pressure to press the plunger. The video tutorial they just put the full needle in and wondering if that’s just easier?

I have 7 eggs and only 2 fertilised. 1 is now my baby bean growing inside at just over 6 weeks. Also number 2 is frozen nicely.

It is not quantity or quality.

My friend had 1 embryo and that is now her little boy xx

I guess tomorrow I will know more on how my 4 are doing!

Sorry I can't help with the injection advise I was advised 90 degree full pressure for ovaleap and fyremedal injections. I'd call the clinic to reconfirm

Hi ladies. I'm brand new to IVF (only just got back all the test results) so am a bit daunted by the whole process. I have a blog to help me to process my thoughts (blogtobump.wixsite.com/) as I move through this scary journey. It's lovely to see so many in the same boat.

I'm 37 (38 next month) and have been TTC forever (well 2 years, but it feels like forever. Literally every other woman in the world has a baby or is pregnant. Is it just me who wants to scream every time another person announces they're pregnant?

Thanks @hopingfor we’ve managed to balance and do 2/3rd and seems to be okay for the moment!
Although I have just read the instructions for Fyremadel in the pack and it says to draw back to check for blood before injecting but never got told that from the clinic. Did anyone else do that? Making me feel a bit sick 🥴

Welcome @Joannakabana! I know how you feel, 2 years TTC when everyone else seems to fall pregnant at the drop of the hat sucks. When do you start?

Thanks for the welcome, @LS2020. I am meeting with the doctor tomorrow so I’ll get a bit of a timeline. Hope it all starts soon!

@hopingfor it's neither good nor bad, think statistically success rates are pretty similar. I would have had a fresh transfer if I didn't have so many follicles/eggs collected which put me at risk of OHSS. How are you doing? I hope you've had good news.

@LS2020 my other half done all my injections so I don't know exactly how he done it, i think I bled slightly after a couple of them and also some of the liquid pooled on my skin after the injection come out. When do you start stims?

@dogmam @LS2020 @Ally0400 thanks for the support had the call yesterday all 4 eggs are of good quality phewwwwww and they are happy with the way the cell are multiplying! Egg Transfer tomorrow booked in 11.55!
They did they will only know more tomorrow on weather to recommend 2 eggs to transfer or 1 due to my age (38). What do you guys think?

Welcome @Joannakabana honesty it seems daunting at first back looking back it really isn’t that bad at all. The only let I struggled with was not having my husband with me to process the information 🤣 You’ll be fine, time goes pretty quick!

Welcome @hopingfor I had a fresh transfer and was advised that they would only put 2 embryos in if poor quality or over 40 (I’m 36) that is private care. Not sure if NHS are different? Sending huge positive vibe for tomorrow and enormous amounts of baby dust!! 🌟

@dogmam I called hospital and they said to not bother so will just inject as normal!
Started stims last Thursday and started suppression ones this morning ☺️

@hopingfor aww what fab news! Are you NHS? I think they have rules on only transferring one for the first go? I feel like I would rather risk twins (vs doubling chance of one implanting) but it wouldn’t be as hard a pregnancy on me at 28 so would do what’s right for you!

Question for all - How long did you have to keep injections on for after final scan, before taking trigger injection? Trying to work out if I’ll have enough or have to get a new prescription!

@LS2020 I stopped the same day and just did my trigger the day after. Hope that helps 😁

Had a reaction to my suppression injection. Side effects bit of sheet says should go within 4 hours 🤞🏻

Hey ladies, just a little update… they collected 8 eggs and just had my call to let us know that 6 have fertilised. Looking forward to the next call tomorrow!
Egg retrieval was amazing, completely painless procedure. Worst bit was them popping a cannula in. Little bit sore today but nothing a movie day, paracetamol and relaxation can’t sort 😊

Sorry I’m just trying to catch up… thank you all so much for your well wishes it honestly did help knowing I’m not alone 🥰 so much to catch up on!.. sorry if I miss anyone out but looking towards to seeing your updates xx

@Joannakabana I 100% struggled with pregnancy envy but it came in waves and you won’t feel like it forever, keep going ❤️

@LS2020 how are the injections going? Hopefully you’re feeling a little better and not as nauseous. Hope you have been able to get more clarity already. I had buserelin and menopur and the videos we had to learn from were really clear on putting the whole needle in at a angle. I had just enough medication for the injections but if they were to plan my egg retrieval a day later I would’ve needed more- I just kept the nurses informed and they just said let’s see what the scans say then go from there. My last injection was Sunday morning and then the trigger shot at 23:59 on Sunday then egg collection Tuesday at 11. Hope that helps x

@LS2020 yes sorry I meant suppression not stims! Oh no what's your side effects? When is your next scan booked in for? I had a scan on the Wednesday and again on the Friday and I had to get another prescription for 1 I injection which was annoying! I think had my clinic egg collection on a weekend then I could have triggered that night but because I had to wait for collection on a Monday I had to continue for an extra day.
