Trying IVF again for baby #2

FingersXssd83 · 05/01/2021 18:44

Took 4 years to have my first baby, including 4 rounds of IVF. She arrived last summer and hoping to get two rounds in this year. I'm breastfeeding atm so will be stopping that next month, trying naturally for a few months to appease DH (it'll never work), and cracking on with a round in before my birthday as I'll be turning 38 this year.

I found IVF a very tortuous slog the first time around. Kind of feels different now that we are a family and trying for a sibling. Have suffered with a bit of PND over be last few months so hoping IVF doesn't set me back but I feel super excited to get going tbh!

Going to contact Access Fertility soon to find out what packages they can offer us.

Be great to hear from ladies in a similar position! x

Just seen this thread and would love to join in.

Another endo sufferer here. We had ivf in 2019 and were really lucky to have success first time around with ds born in nov 2019. I had really low amh for my age (it was only 5 at 28 Shock ) but we got 3 eggs and ended up with one put back in and one frozen.

We haven’t used any protection since i gave birth and I amazingly fell pregnant naturally in aug 2020 but had a miscarriage at 8 weeks which was pretty devastating. No luck since then and I have started getting my endo symptoms again so am pretty certain it is back.

We had a consultation with our clinic (also care!) recently and they dont think we should leave it much longer due to the low amh, so we are going to be starting again soon.

Not sure whether we will be doing fresh or frozen yet, waiting for blood tests and a scan to decide.

Anyway, good luck for everyone who is starting treatment soon!

FingersXssd83 · 24/03/2021 12:44

Welcome @Forecast123

Very sorry to hear about your miscarriage. That must have been devastating.

I believe that low AMH can be a challenge but if you are young then you have a really high chance of a pregnancy with one embryo, so fingers crossed your frosty is your second baby!

Hope the countdown to your cycle goes well.

Hello @Forecast123 how awful to go through a miscarriage, I'm very sorry.

Its definitely reassuring though that you got two embryos last time even from a low retrieval.

My amh was 9, we got 5 eggs, 3 mature and 2 fertilised and both got put back on day 3.

My amh is now 6 but higher dose of stims means we are hoping for similar number of eggs.

Forecast123 · 24/03/2021 20:14

Thanks for the welcome! Yes, I’m hoping that my egg quality might make up for the low amh again.

I think I will be on a high stim dose too if we do a fresh cycle @Herewegoagain83. It’s a bit rubbish isn’t it, as it makes the drugs so expensive!

Hey just wondering how everyone is getting on? I am in the process for first FET next week in the end! Plan was to do another cycle but on examination gynae said csection has healed really well and she’s happy to do a transfer now at 9 months. Excited but trying not to assume it’s going to work ! Does anyone else do that? Despite all evidence to contrary and all the stats showing really quite poor outcomes for ivf in general, I always assume it will work for me this time :-/ If it doesn’t, we have one more poor quality blast left and then it’ll be back to the jabs.

whatcangowrong · 12/04/2021 10:23

On the plus side, my amh has gone up loads since 2 years ago?!?! God knows how or why but I’ll take it.

Good news about you being ready for transfer and your AMH Smile

My IVF worked first time and I have 9 blasts in the freezer. I try to tell myself that it might take a few FETs: they won't all be euploid for a start and statistically it's not that likely to work straight away again. But I can't help but slip into optimism about it because my first FET went so well. Part of me is terrified none of them will work and part assumes it will work immediately. Better than the years I spent with a feeling of dread that I'd never be a mum mixed with "it'll happen one day".

I'm impatient to find out but don't want to stop breastfeeding my 9 month old yet. Well, he doesn't want to stop and I feel like I'd be punishing him for my infertility (daft, I know).

whatcangowrong · 12/04/2021 11:02

@Yokey - 9 in the freezer would make me feel invincible, lol. But as you say they need to be euploid etc. Have you considered having them screened given you have got so many? I did a freeze all cycle, then first FET failed, second worked, so I am kind of assuming same might happen again but I need to keep reminding myself that we have obviously already used the best 2 embryos so pinning my hopes on 3 and 4 is a bit silly! It is so ridiculous but I can't stop checking what the due date would be under various scenarios. Hold your horses woman!

whatcangowrong · 12/04/2021 11:04

Totally get why you want to continue breastfeeding - I had the same dilemma but at 6 months, but I was going back to work and also we had a bad start with bf so supply and weight gain were never quite there anyway. I did think though that if I am not able to have another baby I will never get that chance back. Such a hard one.

BeHereNowx32 · 12/04/2021 17:44

@whatcangowrong hey! I am currently doing FET. I am taking the progynova tablets. My lining scan is on Friday, and transfer will be next week. This is our last embryo, so trying not to think about it all too much.

Do you know which protocol you will be doing? I had the prostap jag, then progynova tablets, so think that’s the longer one x

Yokey · 12/04/2021 17:57

@whatcangowrong yes, it's the idea of stopping breastfeeding and not having another that's the worst, agreed. He has 3 meals a day full of good stuff so I'm not precious about continuing to BF for those reasons. He would really miss it though and we rely on BF for going to sleep (whoops 🤷‍♀️)

Lol at the due dates 😂 It's nice that your optimistic though. Won't do any harm. And you never know, your least good embryo could be a winner.

I know I'm really lucky no matter what happens with number 2. I spent years being miserable before IVF but reading the heart breaking stories on mumsnet makes me think I've had it easy.

I've no plans to have my blasts tested. Maybe if a couple fail I'd change my mind, but I read that some blasts that failed the test went on to be healthy babies and it really put me off. And the additional cost!

Hope your dream due date comes true!🤞

whatcangowrong · 12/04/2021 19:55

@BeHereNowx32 oh hi transfer buddy! I am just doing what I’m told but I’m taking progynova too, been on that about 5 days now, ovitrelle trigger tomorrow, cyclogest from Thursday and transfer on Monday. It sounds a lot written down but I think it’s quite light touch as these things go?

FingersXssd83 · 12/04/2021 20:06

Hey ladies, I'm starting again at the end of the month. Have ordered meds. Just trying to decide whether to do a fresh or freeze all cycle. Never get any to freeze so have to do another EC... you're so lucky having all those frosties!

Took a few cycles to get DD so I'm swaying more towards fresh as freeze all's take bloody ages even though a frozen transfer gave us our baby!

I stopped breastfeeding in Feb/March. when DD turned 6 months. Really hoping I get to experience it again.

Best of luck to those transferring soon 🍀

BeHereNowx32 · 13/04/2021 06:20

@whatcangowrongyour process sounds different to mine, but still a lot! 🙈 I think my transfer may be on Wednesday/ Thursday. Will be nice to have someone stress over the 2ww with!

@FingersXssd83 that’s good news that you have a plan to start. It must have been hard to stop breastfeeding for it. Wishing you lots of luck.

Forecast123 · 13/04/2021 21:05

Good luck to everyone who is transferring/having treatment soon.

We are starting a new fresh cycle at the end of the month, so similar to you @FingersXssd83. Still need to order meds though. I’m feeling excited but nervous!

whatcangowrong · 14/04/2021 16:21

Thank you @Forecast123

@FingersXssd83 not long to wait for you! Maybe keep an open mind re fresh/frozen and see if you get many eggs, is that possible? I have only done freeze all on my doctor's advice that it tends to be more successful.

My transfer booked for Monday... I have a niggling feeling that it is a day later than it should be, I am probably wrong but it all feels a bit slower than I was expecting and I am anxious that they maybe just didn't want to transfer on a Sunday :-/ Hopefully I am just over thinking and all will be fine!

whatcangowrong · 14/04/2021 16:23

@BeHereNowx32 eeek, this weds/thurs or next? V exciting, hope all goes well. Let me know how you get on. I am refusing to buy any FRER to avoid the agony of trying to resist testing. Will let myself get them maybe the following weekend depending how everything is looking.

At least with wfh it's a bit easier to sneak off to appointments, I've not mentioned to anyone from work and hoping not to have to.

BeHereNowx32 · 14/04/2021 19:03

@whatcangowrong next week! My lining scan this Friday :) good luck with your transfer!!
I will definitely need someone to chat to during the “2ww!”

FingersXssd83 · 14/04/2021 19:28

Thanks ladies! I think you are right about keeping an open mind whether we do fresh or frozen. I guess at least if we get the meds for fresh we can always change our mind!

We have been bonking like crazy this month in the hope that we will save thousands of pounds and heartbreak if it works. It's a long shot after trying for years before we started IVF but you never know 😉

Be great to cycle with you @Forecast123 Let's try and keep positive. It's worked before so surely we are in with a good chance again 🍀

Best of luck with your transfers @BeHereNowx32 @whatcangowrong Hope you are feeling relatively calm. I'm rooting for you both 💖

My lining was too thin. So, another week on progynova before having a scan to check it’s helped. X

whatcangowrong · 20/04/2021 14:59

@BeHereNowx32 sorry to hear that, annoying when there are delays....keep us posted.

I had transfer yesterday, so wait and see time. I don't feel very positive. It feels like it was done a day too late based on my own counting of the days, and I'm a bit suspicious that it was to avoid doing it on Sunday :((( but am probably being paranoid!

Yokey · 20/04/2021 18:18

@whatcangowrong did you ask your clinic about the date? It is annoying when you feel you're fitting in with their schedule. I felt like this about my Friday transfer but I'd almost forgotten about that because it resulted in my dc. I hope they wouldn't do it if it harmed your chances, but I guess you're always aware that they don't care like we do! Hopefully your little embryo is snuggling in right now 🤞

@BeHereNowx32 That's annoying. Hope the progynova does its job and you can have your transfer soon 🤞

whatcangowrong · 20/04/2021 18:58

I did ask when they confirmed the day, yes. I said I thought it would be the weekend. The day I took the trigger shot was the day I was predicted to ovulate anyway, whereas it should trigger ovulation 24 + hours after that so I felt that should have been taken sooner. But my cycle last month was really long so maybe she was lining it up a bit with that,. Wait and see I guess. I am trying to assume that once it's in there and the lining is looking nice and cozy it shouldn't make much difference. Generally speaking they do tend to work any days that are required so I hope I'm wrong.

FingersXssd83 · 20/04/2021 20:33

That's annoying @BeHereNowx32 Hope your lining is ready to go at you it next scan!

Hope you're feeling ok @whatcangowrong Do you have any plans to keep yourself busy in the TWW?

My meds arrived on Monday. Start down regging on Friday. It's the first time I'll have done a long protocol so feeling a little apprehensive. Hoping the change gets me to a BFP quicker than my previous short protocols 🤞🏻

Thanks everyone. It’s usually just over 7mm, and I don’t get much further than that.

@whatcangowrong I don’t have any experience of trigger before transfer, but I hope everything is ok. Shame I didn’t have my transfer today. We could have supported each other through the 2ww stress. 🙈 hope you have some relaxing things planned.
