IVF February/March 2021

Hi

I’m due to start IVF mid February depending on when my period in January starts.
Had a fresh cycle end of august which sadly ended in a missed miscarriage in October.
I only had that one embryo so will be starting a new fresh cycle.

Would love to chat to any ladies starting then as I found the chats really helpful during my first round.

@clp20 Iv had it done and I didnt feel a thing, I was sedated im going back 5yrs, im sure you will be just fine. Good luck.

@GingerBrummie thank you ill start having them, iv been good with the protein and water bottle in the evening.

RichmondLady1981 · 15/02/2021 16:37

Hi everyone. Lovely to hear your updates.

@Reevalyneete so sorry to hear the news. I agree with the others- it’s good not to continue and waste time. This way you are closer to starting your next more successful cycle.

@GingerBrummie totally agree- it just feels like another slap in the face doesn’t it? I miscarried the same time as Megan and thought I’d be pregnant again by now so it was a bit of a blow tbh. Good to see that a 39 year old is successful- wonder if she had any medical help? Guess we’ll never know. Going to the shop to buy Avos now thanks for the info.

@Mrbay May I ask how you knew that you didn’t have enough sedation during a previous egg retrieval?

@CLP20 all the best with your collection 💫

I’m feeling super drowsy on the meds too. Not taking fyremadel yet. The clinic said they would let me know when to start that at my next scan which is tomorrow. It’s only my 5th day of stims so what info will they be giving me? How many follicles are responding? Should I ask if they have got bigger? If some haven’t responded is there time to catch up? Is there a specific scan that they are most likely to cancel the cycle due to poor response? Sorry for all the questions but like to know what to ask beforehand.

Have a great evening.

RichmondLady1981 · 15/02/2021 16:39

@Kitttycatt great to hear you’re out and that your husband’s sperm was sparkling 💫. Sorry to hear you were in pain. Hopefully on the mend from now. Keep us posted. X

Mrbay · 15/02/2021 16:47

@Kitttycatt - what a great number!! Oh and yay for your DH's sperm!

@RichmondLady1981 - because I felt it all and tried to kick the surgeon away with my feet! The nurses held a leg each, thankfully I didn't have many eggs to be collected. I'll say it was less painful than a root canal without local anaesthesia! Plus I queried this before my next EC and the consultant said I was given a low dose for my weight so upped it and the next one was a lovely sleep.

Motherofkittens28 · 15/02/2021 16:55

@CLP20 when I had my eggs frozen i was out for the whole procedure and woke up in recovery, wasn't aware at all. That is what they are aiming for I think so don't worry.

lucymills1234 · 15/02/2021 17:01

@Rachae hello there, I remember you from the thread before Christmas... I hope you're feeling restored and ready to go again!

I'm back here too (stating the obvious!!) as despite a 5AA transfer I got a BFN. I'm also on long protocol and ready to start stims on Wednesday.

I had my baseline today and they didn't count follicles but said there were 'quite a few' which is hopeful. I only have one ovary and am nearly 42 so need all the help I can get. Wasn't all good news though as there's a cyst which they think could be an endometrioma. It's small enough that I can go ahead but the news I might have endo sort of knocked me for six...

How is everyone else doing? Anyone else starting stims this week?

Blessing12 · 15/02/2021 17:55

@Kitttycatt sorry I didn't see your post earlier, so glad your feeling OK now and you got a great amount of eggs and sperms is wiggling nicely.

@lucymills1234 good luck with starting stims, what meds are you on and dosage?
I have 2 ovarys but at baseline, told me left was empty and very small so not to expect anything from that one.

GingerBrummie · 15/02/2021 18:01

@Kitttycatt I hadnt realised you had EC today, great that its all over & you’re feeling better. 15 is great, will they call you in morning & let you know whats fertilised?
I was under the impression they will just knock me out with general anaesthetic. Im hoping so..

Welcome @lucymills1234 although sorry you are back here. Im assuming you had none frozen hence the fresh cycle?

Good luck for the scan tomorrow @RichmondLady1981

lucymills1234 · 15/02/2021 18:02

Hi @Blessing12! I'll be on Ovaleap, 300iu daily. I don't start today as they need to time it for collection apparently.

Sorry to hear about your left ovary, but you can still do well relying on one, so fingers crossed the follicles on your right respond well!

willithappen · 15/02/2021 18:02

@Kitttycatt glad you are resting up okay now. That sounds a bit traumatic! :(
My clinic don't sedate us for egg collection, we just get a lot of pain drugs and are awake through it. Won't lie that's a huge panic for me as I'd much rather be put to sleep and wake up once it's all done. The thought of being aware of it the whole time sends my anxiety though the roof!

Feeling quite bloated on gonal f still. I have symptoms of it but very mild and think I may be over thinking a lot of it!

lucymills1234 · 15/02/2021 18:05

@GingerBrummie I had one blast to freeze (4BB) after my last cycle but because I'm nearly 42 I decided to go for another fresh round instead of an FET. The frozen blast isn't going anywhere, but I can't stop my eggs getting older! So I've got everything crossed that another fresh round could give me a fresh transfer and maybe even something to freeze to increase my chances...

Blessing12 · 15/02/2021 18:10

Thank you @lucymills1234 yes im on day 7 of Ovaleap 375 and Menopur 75, yes im praying the right pulls through and does good .

Good luck with your journey.

Guys I dont know about anyone else but iv had the odd sharp pain here and there throught my left ovary area, I really hope its a sign that something is happening, even tho they have said not expect much on that side.
Its sounds awful but im wishing the days away so I can find out how many follicles etc on Wednesday, im the most impatient person ever.

Alexm06 · 15/02/2021 18:27

@lucymills1234 I am due to start stims on Wednesday too. I had a scan last week as I was on provera but had a 6cm cyst on my left ovary. Had to keep taking provera till Saturday and are going to scan me on day 1 of my period to see if it’s gone down. If it has I can start if it hasn’t I can’t and have to wait again. Anyways my period is on its way (either tonight or tomorrow) so will hopefully be able to stick to the same plan but I guess we will see.

Thanks everyone for the messages! I know its for the best in the long run! I've done all my crying now I'm ready to start again the end of March hopefully!

@Kitttycatt lovely news to hear your EC went well and the sperm had improved! Enjoy your rest you deserve it!DaffodilXxx

Mom1of2 · 15/02/2021 19:11

Just wanted to say you're all amazing! You're doing so well at keeping positive! IVF is one hell of a rollercoaster!!

I'm not feeling anything pregnancy related... slightly sore boobs, bloated... but all could be the progesterone! Still haven't POAS yet... 3 more days until the blood test...

I had a bit of a wobble about 'what if its negative?!' Feeling better now though and trying to stay positive.

My strategy at the moment is to think pregnant!

CLP20 · 15/02/2021 19:36

Thanks for the reassurance @Blessing12 @Motherofkittens28

@Kitttycatt sorry you didn’t have a great experience, but great news about the number of eggs and not needing ICSI!

@RichmondLady1981 I just asked every time what size the follicles were so I knew what the progress was. At 5 days they will still be fairly small and there’s plenty of time to adjust things and let the smaller ones catch up.

I’ve just had a call from my clinic to say my oestrogen levels are on the high side, they don’t want my follicles to get any bigger before Wednesday and I’m now high risk for OHSS so they are going to coast me (no stimms tonight with the trigger) and they warned I may have to delay transfer. Fingers crossed it doesn’t get that far!

Rachae · 15/02/2021 19:53

Hi everyone, happy Monday!

@GingerBrummie
9 either side sounds good to me! From my last cycle and what I read on this forum... It's not all about the high numbers anyway. I got about 20 eggs at EC, and only got 1 embryo from them. Other women on the thread only got 4 at EC eggs and went on to be successful and pregnant. So, I'm not too bothered about the numbers this time.. Those calculations about how the decrease rate happens across the 5 days isn't always true.
@CLP20 I wouldn't worry and definitely say yes to the valium if offered! The majority of people don't feel anything and don't remember it. I personally found the transfer worst, not EC. I also second what someone said about sedation.. Ask for as much as possible up front!
@Lucymills1234 hello, yes I remember you too! :-) lovely to be back on a thread with everyone again. I'm really sorry to hear about your bnp but all my fingers crossed for this cycle!!
Xx

RichmondLady1981 · 16/02/2021 09:02

Thank you @CLP20

Just been to my second scan. I only had 6 follicles at my baseline and they said today 5 are responding with 3 clear leaders. One of two things will happen, three will continue to lead and will be the ones to collect, or the others will catch up. Let’s see.

She said my uterus lining is a ‘dream’ at 9.5 and three obvious layers. Shame it’s not a fresh cycle but good news that my lining knows what to do if I’m ever lucky enough to get to that stage of transfer 🤞. Just need one!!! Come on eggies!! 💪

Been instructed to start my fyremadel tomorrow morning as my oestrogen is clearly rising and body responding. Loads of EWCM yesterday too. Next scan Friday. They are doing a blood test and Covid test on the same day! They will have a clearer idea of hoe many follicles they will get.

Tip- empty your bladder before scan. I didn’t and she said my ovary was tucked under my uterus in the scan. She said it could have been hiding the 6th follicle.

thetallgirl · 16/02/2021 09:07

Morning everyone!

@GingerBrummie you have really good numbers!

I've had my first stimms scan this morning. One ovary looked great - measured 5 follicles and 2 were already over 10 (10.8 and 12), other ovary lagging a bit - measured 4 follicles all 5-8mm. I don't think that's too bad, but I'd have liked a few more, just to start the whole process with a higher number as I know the numbers will drop off at EC, fertilisation, development etc. (Told myself before I went in that 10-13 would be great, so I'm not far off). There is still time for more to grow and hopefully the ones I do have are decent quality.

I'm Waiting for the clinic to analyse bloods and then I should hear whether my Ovaleap dosage changes from this evening.

Motherofkittens28 · 16/02/2021 11:03

Morning all, has anyone actually had a dose change during stimulation? I don't have my first scan until day 10, which seems a bit late should anything need to change.

Blessing12 · 16/02/2021 11:04

@RichmondLady1981 its all about the quality not quantity, so you stay as positive as can be.
Good luck for Friday.

@thetallgirl thats great news also, whens your next scan?

Are use ladies on the same day in your cycles?

I have my 1st Stims scan in the morning, clinic called today to do the covid questions, im rwally nervous and part of me doesn't actually want to know, but im really trying to keep the positive attitude up in spirits as I tell use ladies, but there's no denying its a struggle.

ThePurpleFairy · 16/02/2021 11:12

Good luck to everyone with egg collections coming up, hugs to those who aren’t getting the news they’re hoping for but I remain hopeful that everything will turn out for the best for you.

I was totally out for my EC, I was visibly terrified and I had tears rolling down my face, the nurse mopped them off my face and I was apologising about it, but then my eyes rolled and that was it, out!

I have a slight update on the extra progesterone, I asked if I could pay for a blood test and she said they can’t do it because I will have been on the pessaries by then and because they go directly to the uterus, apparently a blood test won’t show properly 😔. She said it’s just impossible to recommend either way. So basically the choice is just back on us again, pay £700 ish and have 12 weeks of jabs or just chance it and hope 3 Cyclogest a day will do the job. Tough one!

RichmondLady1981 · 16/02/2021 11:21

@Blessing12 thanks so much for your positivity. I’ve got everything crossed for my little cohort. 💕

@ThePurpleFairy I’m not saying £700 isn’t a lot of money, but in this case, is it not worth going for it? Just in case. X x

RichmondLady1981 · 16/02/2021 11:21

@Motherofkittens28 I’ve only every heard of a couple of ladies having stims dropped but that’s due to concern over overstimulation. Not very often though is it?

ThePurpleFairy · 16/02/2021 11:55

@RichmondLady1981 to be honest it’s the cost that bothers me the least, if it helps then absolutely worth it. It’s more that the needles are a struggle for us - manageable, but a struggle nonetheless and 12 weeks is a LONG time. My husband’s poor face went white when I said it and he’s not a keen bean. Of course we will do it if it ends up the best option but it’s difficult to say whether the pros of it outweigh the extra stress of that makes sense
