Is it too soon?

Hi Is anyone starting IVF in January/February next year?

We had our first failed IVF cycle in October and looking to go for our second cycle but the way my periods are it falls over xmas when they are shut.

So we are starting in Jan :)

Mrbay · 12/12/2020 18:37

Hey all!

Lots to catch up on, I have read all your posts but I'm so tired today so I can't reply individually - sorry!

Regarding drinking and diet, I've tried to over haul my diet, but I'm not pressuring myself to be a super healthy goddess.

Drink, well I've poured myself a nice red tonight so, I'll continue with low to moderate drinking until ET (hopefully I'll get there)

Exercise wise I've been terrible this week, last week I managed 35 mile. This week, I'll be lucky if I make it over 10 miles! Today I've done another 9 miles through some pretty rough terrain.

How's everyone's Saturday going?

Oh had a little good news today, speaking to the husband of a pregnant lady who is about to give birth after 7 cycles of IVF. God what a warrior to go through it 7 times!

Welcome @EasterBunny7 so sorry to hear about you mc :(

@Birdladybird I’m very similar to you - 10 eggs on my first round only 3 mature and only 1 good enough for a 3 day transfer.

I’m also doing a double trigger this round aswell

.
@ForeverAintEnough
I’m trying to be healthy - they told me to cut down on caffeine and only have 1-2 teas a day but I love my tea - spoken to the nurse because I only drink decaf tea and she said I can have as much as I want lol! So hard to try and be healthy over Xmas x

Hi all trying to catch up with all the posts... flurry of activity here, good to see! We have been preliminary approved to start in Jan (with ABC in London) subject to my TSH not being elevated ( it was at 2.58 in Sept 2019).

ForeverAintEnough · 13/12/2020 17:38

So following on from my asking about healthy eating I’ve had a bottle of wine and loads of cheese this weekend!!! Obviously that’s a once off but I think I will just enjoy myself this Christmas and hope it doesn’t impact too much. I’ve been off caffeine for two years now lol. And I’ve had no alcohol since last January. We were following a extreme diet from June with no sugar, dairy, gluten or carbs. So it’s time for a relaxation I think as we’re looking at 2-3 rounds next year too.

Peachy1381 · 13/12/2020 19:38

@ForeverAintEnough I think relaxing a bit over Christmas sounds pretty sensible. Particularly if you've been really committed with the diet the rest of the year.

I've shared a bottle of wine with my partner two nights this weekend and enjoyed a couple of mince pies and chocolates as well. Even back on the real coffee, which I have missed!

Nothing is going to happen with ourFET until mid Jan so my plan is to enjoy a few festive treats until boxing day, then go back to cutting out the booze, caffeine and sugary stuff. Trying to balance all the seasonal excess with regular runs and yoga.

Beaglemum91 · 13/12/2020 21:17

@ForeverAintEnough I'm not a drinker so no alcohol is normal for me and not an issue. We're trying to be healthy and I'm have both cut down on caffine, I'll be pretty much caffeine free when we start in Jan and will just be on decaff tea. Chocolate will be a hard one over Christmas, but I've said ill cake us some nice things around Christmas that we can have before we cut down sugar over Jan. We're both generally pretty healthy and I cook everyday so we have balanced meals. As we have MFI my husband is also giving up a lot try to to increase chances, but he's already 200% healthier (less drink, not smoking, eating health) than he was when he was living in the States before he moved here a year ago so there's not much we can do to improve things foe him lifestyle wise.

Hi,

Jumping on this thread as we are due to start our second cycle in January.

Some background information:
•TTC since January 2018
•Unexplained infertility
•6 months of letrozole - no positive pregnancy
•first cycle IVF Sept/Oct 2020 (private)
•high AMH
•Our first cycle was GnRH antagonist cycle with freeze all.
22 eggs, 14 fertilised, 1 day 5 blastocyst
•FET in November 2020 - negative bHCG

Our new fresh cycle is a LD21 protocol -
Prostap on CD21
Bleed
Menopur injections

Has anyone else had a similar protocol? Or a change in protocol?

Hope you are all doing ok.

X

MF1981 · 14/12/2020 13:34

I’ve been quiet recently but keeping up with everyone. I got upset on the phone with my clinic this morning - the doctor, their website, the video we watched as part of the consent process and a lot of what I’ve read is a different protocol than the nurse has taken me through. When I’m asking the nurse about it she doesn’t seem to understand what I’m asking. Basically it’s to do with how long after starting buserelin do I go in for a scan and start taking progynova. I’m having their standard FET long protocol apparently. Can anyone help me to understand the process and timeline please? I’m due to start buserelin on Sunday.

Peachy1381 · 14/12/2020 15:38

Hey @MF1981 sounds incredibly frustrating to be getting a lot of mixed information, not surprised you got a bit upset. Have they provided you with a timetable? If not could you ask for one? For egg collection I had a printed time table of exactly what I'd take and when, and a column that I could add the details of when I'd go in for scans. I also found that sometimes it was easier to email nurses in with my queries, is that an option for you?

ivftake3 · 14/12/2020 15:40

@MF1981 hey darling.. I'll try and help so with mine I take

On day 21 of your cycle you start taking burcerlin
Up until your period starts.

On day of your period you phone the clinic and tell them mine advice to start the prognova to the nearest Sunday.
Cause it's xmas I have to wait until Sunday the 27th to go In line with them opening again.. you continue on burselyn until they tell you to stop!

If it wasn't xmas and I started my AF today I would start taking them next Sunday.

Then they will scan you 11 days after taking the prognova. Then of lining is ok you start the presseries..

Hope that helps. Xx

ivftake3 · 14/12/2020 15:41

@MF1981 P.s they should provide you with a timetable..

Mrbay · 14/12/2020 15:58

Afternoon girls

Any one else noticed that after their first cycle of IVF they have become a lot more emotional - I mean I know cry at the most stupid.

@unknownscot - hey! Not been on the protocol you have/will be, but I'm having a change for our 3rd cycle. I'm having less stims and short protocol - which is scary as it's unknown and I don't know how I'll respond. As each cycle has had worse results - c1, 3 eggs resulting in 3 blastos. Cycle 2, 2 eggs, both got to day 5 but only one suitable for transfer.

@MF1981 - Give them a call and ask them to provide you with a timetable or written down instructions, you need to be 100% clear on what you have to do as it is bloody stressful process.

Today, I am being a bit of a fool, as I am a week past ovulation and I've got lower back pain and sore boobs - in my head I think could I have naturally gotten pregnant this month?? Given of 5 years of trying and only one chemical via IVF, I think I have more chance of winning the lotto!! Sucks to be female sometimes.

ForeverAintEnough · 14/12/2020 16:48

@Mrbay yes!!’ Random things set me off - especially ads ha. Sorry you’re having a bad day. I think we always still hold out hope - it’s human nature - although luckily month to month I don’t as I probably would’ve gone insane by now if so. I do sometimes have little daydream as of having our first via ivf then a natural pregnancy surprising is 6 months later! Laughable given our 3 years of trying and multiple rounds of ivf and never seen a positve test

Thanks all for insights re diet! I think for those doing FET I would definitely relax and enjoy Christmas within reason - as far as I’m aware diet is more for egg quality so if you’ve that hard bit done I’d say healthy in jan in preparation for your FETs will be fine!

MF1981 · 14/12/2020 17:15

Thanks guys. I have got a timetable but it’s not clear and is different from the website and the consents videos they asked us to watch. Hence my confusion. They said a doctor would call me this afternoon but all I got was a snippy email. This is stressful enough without having to get upset with them just to get some clarity on when I’m supposed to start taking progynova!

Gardenlady543 · 14/12/2020 17:40

Thanks for the message @ForeverAintEnough I went to hobbycraft and got some projects and I took your advice and we spent some time putting up the Xmas tree, it felt a bit like I was just going through the motions, but I think that’s the best option really. So I will carry on with that over the next few weeks.

@Mrbay I’ve definitely noticed this, I think I’m probably just a bit more emotionally fragile at the moment.

Welcome @unknownscot I’m so glad to hear you’ve had a consultation and got the plan in place to move on to the next step ASAP. You must be really pleased!

@MF1981 I’m really sorry to hear about your experience, this is not right. If I were you, I’d get in touch with the specialist’s secretary and ask for a phone consultation so they can fully advise you on the protocol. It is not fair at all that you have been given conflicting information and that you don’t know all the details that you need.

I have my appointment with the specialist on Thursday to discuss the FET in January after our unsuccessful transfer in the fresh cycle. I am so worried as I’ve had so many issues with progesterone in the fresh cycle. We are going to try naturally the months inbetween, as my specialist likes to have a natural bleed inbetween each unsuccessful cycle. Since I’ve just had a fresh cycle I wonder if I’m statistically more likely to release more eggs in this natural cycle after a fresh cycle, I can’t find any evidence on it.

Mrbay · 14/12/2020 18:22

I'm glad that I am not the only one - it used to take a lot to make me cry, now show me a heart warming video of an old lady getting a new pet and that's it, I am in floods!

@MF1981 - if you are comfortable you could post a pic of your timetable and perhaps we can help you make sense of it - you will need to cover your personal info tho. But I am annoyed for you, that your clinic are not helping you.

@Gardenlady543 - I'm not sure as I've never even thought about whether you are more likely to have success after a failed IVF.

EasterBunny7 · 14/12/2020 18:38

Hi everyone. My clinic just told me that I can't start my second cycle in January because my body won't have enough time to recover from the hormones in the first cycle (November). January would be my first natural period after the miscarriage cycle. I wanted to know how long others who are doing successive cycles had to wait? I am so frustrated that they are making me wait when I feel recovered! Angry

ivftake3 · 14/12/2020 18:41

@Gardenlady543 after my miscarriage and failed I produced more follicles than normal not sure if that helps. But not sure if it's the same after failed transfer.

@MF1981 as @Mrbay said if you wanted you could put in here and we could have a look. Bless you with your clinic.. it's horrible them not helping you..

@unknownscot welcome sweet xx

@Mrbay aww bless you 💕..

Well burselyn is the worst mood swings is awful I'm angry and then happy and then crying and then angry and crying at the same time.. 😡😢😂

ivftake3 · 14/12/2020 18:52

@EasterBunny7 I'm so sorry your cycle was cancelled. I had to cycles cancelled but then my MC went on for months.

I thought if you was on medicated you could start straight away. I could be wrong it could be the next cycle. I know it's frustrating to here and heartbreaking because you just want to get on with things. Have they given you any dates xx

Birdladybird · 14/12/2020 21:14

@EasterBunny7 my November cycle failed (nothing to transfer even thought they got 10 eggs) :( i'm starting the next one 28th December, with hopefully having egg collection 13th Jan. Complete change of drugs i'm on, and having a double trigger shot as well to help mature the eggs. Also having IMSI this time instead if ICSI.

@Mrbay I cry at everything. Even the dog cuddling the cat set me off Blush @ForeverAintEnough, its strange how much i still obsess with ovulation times etc. Even though we have been trying for 4 years and never had anything remotely positive i was bugging my poor DH for sex this week Wink. I should just buy another euromillions ticket Grin

ForeverAintEnough · 14/12/2020 21:46

@Birdladybird ah we are the same!!! I don’t even want to think how much I’ve spent on those ovulation flashing smiley things!! We’re going to take a break on that too now for Christmas - our love life has become every day to two days during the 10 days around ovulation even if we’re tired or busy or have to fit it in around other commitments - then being too knackered to bother the following week then my period then start all over again 🙈 I barely remember what it’s like to actually just be in the mood and come on to DH!!! And we’ve never even had a late period in the 3 years we’ve been trying!

Emmalouise11 · 15/12/2020 11:40

Hey all, hope everyone’s ok?

Just had a call from the nurses to get medication so I start taking 3 progynova tablets on day 2 of my cycle which will be Xmas day, then go in for a scan around New Year’s Day, and then possibly have the transfer around the middle of jan. I asked about why I’m not doing injections and she said because my cycles regular and they are to control the cycle they don’t like to give injections if not needed. But there was no notes on the system so she just confused me more really, cause she didn’t know herself.

mowglika · 15/12/2020 12:54

Hi all, joining you as hopefully I am cycling in feb. I am going abroad for my cycle, it will end up costing around the same but with extras.

We’ve been trying naturally for 3 years and had a FET which I miscarried at 7 weeks a year and a half ago.

It’s our last chance to try this month but I’m not holding out much hope, besides I’m quite excited for the cycle in feb.

Trying to shake up my diet and cut down sugar, I didn’t realise gluten and dairy were things to cut down on too.. I am a bit confused by the ivf diet recommendations if anyone has any insight? Which is best pre ivf - the Mediterranean diet or the high protein low carb diet?

Hope everyone else is well, I see people are gearing up for FETs as well as fresh cycles next year
