Hi ladies, I’ve been through all of my fertility screening tests etc and am due to start my first and hopefully only round of IVF (positive vibes Smile ) soon. I’m looking to share my hopes, experiences and tips and provide support to anyone else expecting to start a cycle soon. The more the merrier!

Oh I hope they both stick for both of us, i wonder why I can test after 10 days? I have no symptoms at all, but didn’t with my DD. They are my last two so after this I’m out, I mentally can’t do anymore, il let you know what my test results are, I have a feeling il give in Friday, if neg I will assume to early, best of luck

Sunbird24 · 21/10/2020 12:14

@Tara8 so disappointed for you, look after yourself now x

Dinky06 · 21/10/2020 12:25

@Jewel2110 it's odd how different IVF processes can be! I'm desperate to know the outcome but equally too scared to test early in case of a false positive or false negative test. Sending you lots of luck. This has been my first ever cycle and it's been so gruelling so I completely sympathise with you how you feel. How many transfers have you had across the cycles you've had?

I completely understand, you want to know but scared, it so emotional! I had one egg collection which went really well, I had 10 grade A embryos, all made to day 5 blastocyst, I had one fresh transfer and this is my 5 frozen transfer, we alternated between putting one and the two back, I lost one embryo to the freezer, so know fingers crossed for these last two. Hopefully you won’t need a second go (unless you would like more) iv heard so many people are lucky first time, was yours a chemical or natural cycle? Again we alternated that, it’s so hard to know what to do for the best, my DD was a natural so that’s what we did this time.
I have been trying to catch up on prev posts but DD is obviously centre of attention so forgive me if you have posted, but do you have more embs in freezer? Xxx

Mrsmch123 · 21/10/2020 13:08

@Tara8 gutted for you!!take care of yourself

@Jewel2110 I'm a day 10 test as well, not sure why it's different in different clinics?

Jewel2110 · 21/10/2020 13:24

Hi @Mrsmch123, yes it seems to be difficult rules for different clinics and how old embryo is makes a difference, so iv read (a lot) are you testing soon? Xxx

Jewel2110 · 21/10/2020 13:29

Can I ask has anyone ever been prescribed aspirin? I read a lot about it possibly helping xx

Lindyloolou · 21/10/2020 14:06

Hi @Jewel2110 I’m on Asprin as well as clexane and steroids. I tested positive for the common MTHFR gene mutation (risk of clotting I think) hence, asprin but it’s only 75mg. I also have elevated killer cells hence the steroids. Had all these tests after 4 MC’s (that were natural conception) hence, going for the more controlled route now in the hope it helps.

Had my egg retrieval this morning - 23 so a bit sore but overall I’m ok. OH had a sperm retrieval so he’s feeling very sorry for himself at the moment but now up and about waiting for the dr so we can get home.

Wishing everyone the very best be it current cycle or future ones. Xx

Jewel2110 · 21/10/2020 14:18

Oh bless you, thank you for responding after egg retrieval, I was out of it for 8 hours! Didn’t really know what was happening till next day, thank you for shedding some light on the subject, hope you get home soon! Take it easy for a few days, and poor husband, you don’t hear many stories about them having to go through physical pain, hope he gets to rest too, lots of luck to you both!! That’s great egg numbers! Xxx

Dinky06 · 21/10/2020 15:40

@Lindyloolou great news!! Definitely rest up and stay hydrated! Xx

@Jewel2110 I have four frosties if I need another transfer so all is not lost. It's just the two that were put in were the best graded ones so I think it would affect my confidence a lot if these didn't stick. Hey ho. The highs and lows of IVF. I was on a short protocol not sure how that relates to natural / chemical cycles. I took Meriofert / Fostimon, Certroride and Gonasi over the cycle (the last being the trigger shot!).

@Jewel2110 I'm testing on Saturday🤞🏻

Jewel2110 · 21/10/2020 18:39

@Mrsmch123 my fingers are crossed for you on Saturday too xxx

Kiza · 21/10/2020 19:25

@Tara8 how many dpt are you? Just wondering if there's stil a chance?

I was also wondering (and sorry if it's been discussed before) but what have your clinics said about shielding for IVF? I'm still yet to start (nhs clinic keeps pushing it back) but have been told different things by different nurses?

Dinky06 · 21/10/2020 19:40

@Kiza I wasn't given any particular guidance about Covid and needing to shield. I've been minimising going out and I work from home which helps. My partner and I had to do Covid tests a few days before egg collection.

EasterBunny7 · 21/10/2020 20:15

After 2+ years, my IVF treatment is due to start! I haven't been told anything about shielding though?

EasterBunny7 · 21/10/2020 20:18

I was glad to find this thread with others getting treatment this month too. Has anyone had any BFPs yet?

Bee369 · 21/10/2020 20:59

Hi guys hope it’s ok if I join in... had transfer last week, still another 5 days til I can test which feels like torture! Must stop googling! We were told to shield as much as possible as obvs if you get contacted by test and trace you can’t go to your appointments! Did I see some people can test after 10 days? This is my third FET, the waiting doesn’t get easier!

Lolly2020 · 21/10/2020 21:04

@Kiza we weren't told to isolate but we were asked not to go to pubs/restaurants basically to avoid being tracked and traced as then we wouldn't be able to go into the clinic.

MF1981 · 21/10/2020 21:13

We’ve been asked to self isolate from first injection day until transfer.

Jewel2110 · 21/10/2020 21:31

Hi ladies, I wasn’t told to isolate but do have to complete a covid safety form 48h before any appointments but guessing that’s pretty standard, yes @Bee369 I can test on day 10, I don’t know why it’s different though sorry, 5 days doesn’t sound a long time but when you’ve spent years waiting to see two lines it may as well be 5 years!! I find the last 2 days the worst, but then iv usually cheated by then, best of luck on your journey xxx

unknownscot · 21/10/2020 22:32

It was recommended to us to self isolate/shield as much as possible from the beginning of injections until after transfer.

I spoke to my GP as I work in the NHS and would be at a higher risk. I got signed off work.

SpyroC · 21/10/2020 22:57

@Dinky06 my clinic have said to wait 2 weeks before testing for my day 5 embryos too and then if negative to test again 2 days later. It drives me mad, especially when I see others testing before me with similar dates. My bfp cycle I had all the af symptoms so tested 3 days earlier. I thought I had an evap line and binned it thinking it was negative. On otd the same very very faint bfp. This time on a pink dye test so I started to wander. The following day I brought a frer and the line was as dark as could be. Sadly It turned out to be ectopic but if I'd of stopped at 10dp5dt I'd never have known. So I guess there is method to their madness.

@Kiza I was told to self isolate for the whole cycle which on long protocol is 6 weeks minimum! When I did the consents I had to sign to say we will self isolate from day 1 of stims through to transfer. I do feel better for doing this.

SpyroC · 21/10/2020 22:59

So sorry @Tara8 take care of yourself x

First day of stims here. I've never had to do 2 injections before so that was a new but of fun for me!

Bee369 · 22/10/2020 06:34

@Jewel2110 ha yes after 6 years these last few days seem to be dragging! This is my third time and I’ve not cheated yet but feel like this time I might have to!! Good luck with yours xx

Kiza · 22/10/2020 07:14

Thanks Ladies, my boss (who was previously very supportive) has switched and is saying I still need to see high risk patients even during IVF (I work in CAMHS and our service is very busy and strained right now).
I'm locum so not covered by usual HR policies.
Seems there's a huge variation in what different clinics are doing re: shielding.

I'll wait to see if what my clinic says at our treatment planning appointment - whenever that will be! 😄
