Hi ladies, I’ve been through all of my fertility screening tests etc and am due to start my first and hopefully only round of IVF (positive vibes Smile ) soon. I’m looking to share my hopes, experiences and tips and provide support to anyone else expecting to start a cycle soon. The more the merrier!

Thank you. I've had a lazy day today and so far feeling much better so hopefully over the worst!

msgloria · 03/10/2020 17:53

@ThePurpleFairy I dropped you a PM Smile

ivfjourney5 · 04/10/2020 08:59

AF's on her way 🥳🥳

Lindyloolou · 04/10/2020 09:23

Really hope it works out for everyone here. @Mrsmch123 Sounds like I’m on the same meds as you although I’ve not started yet - due over the next couple of days. And also likely to opt for testing as we have had multiple MCs and whilst OH’s count is over average, quality is poor. How long after do you have to wait for that part do you know?

Really nervous about getting the injection thing right. Has everyone found it straight forward? Feel like I’ve forgotten all the info the nurse relayed to me as it was 2 months ago (couldn’t start sept as we were awaiting some results).

SpyroC · 04/10/2020 09:37

@Lindyloolou the first one in nerve racking but you soon get the hang of it. I am prone to fainting and even I managed just fine. There's plenty of YouTube clips you can watch too. People on here are always ready with top tips if you have any trouble. What drug are you injecting? You can do this 🙌🏻 x

ivfjourney5 · 04/10/2020 09:41

@Lindyloolou Sorry to hear about what you've been through in the past Thanks. Hopefully this is your time! You might find this useful for the injections, well a few people might, it shows you how to mix most medication. I know I watched it numerous times 🤣 https://www.carefertility.com/support/injection-teach/ scroll down to which ever medication you are on x

MF1981 · 04/10/2020 10:08

Well it seems AF might be here today - 4 days early Confused. So I’ll be calling my clinic tomorrow to get my prep month underway. Mixed feelings - excited to get started but sad that our last natural cycle obviously wasn’t a success.

Sunbird24 · 04/10/2020 10:09

@Lindyloolou I discovered towards the end that some spots are less painful than others (none of them are unbearable but why make it harder?) so the last few days I’ve been touching the tip of the needle to my belly in a few places before committing to one that feels ok.
Have a stash of something to give yourself a little treat after your jabs, and remember to keep up your fluid intake. You’ve got this!

Lolly2020 · 04/10/2020 12:43

@Sunbird24 I think you're right about finding the right spots. My 2nd injection stung quite a bit but last night I hardly felt it at all!

Is anyone eating/avoiding any specific foods during their cycle? I havent been given any advice on this from the clinic other than to avoid alcohol and caffeine.

Sunbird24 · 04/10/2020 12:54

Avoiding alcohol and caffeine, trying to eat fairly healthily but if my body’s telling me it needs sugar then it’s getting it. Trying to avoid stress but that’s easier said than done when work is really busy!

Lindyloolou · 04/10/2020 13:35

@ivfjourney5 thanks for that link. Just gone through my meds to prep myself and bit and realised I’ve not been given any syringes 🤦🏽‍♀️ Thankfully I checked. Will hop to the pharmacy tomorrow.

@SpyroC I am going to be on meriofert 150g after having several pharmacies struggle to get hold of menopur and Fyremadale.

Nutrition wise I really recommend checking out Melanie Brown who specialises in fertility nutrition. I had a consultation with her and she provided me with exactly what I need to take from suppers, to what organic foods. Watercress, Walnuts and seeds included! Check out her sperm & egg salad via google 👍🏻

Lindyloolou · 04/10/2020 13:36

That should have read ‘supps’ not suppers

SpyroC · 04/10/2020 15:04

@Lindyloolou ahhh I wandered why hardly anyone on this thread is on menopur. I've been on gonal f and menopur and menopur is much more annoying so perhaps it's good you don't have it.

@Lolly2020 I've been on a modified diet for over a year due to endo and ivf. It has varied but the key things are no gluten, dairy, alcohol (well I've had a few glasses of red in between cycles) and very little sugar. I also eat low carb high protein and lots of veg. I only do this due to endo and egg quality issues so I wouldn't worry too much.

Tara8 · 04/10/2020 16:00

@SpyroC I'm on menopur, day 8 now Smile
I'm having a bit of a meltdown today, convinced myself I've ovulated already!

Sunbird24 · 04/10/2020 16:04

I’ve been on menopur too. Don’t worry Tara, I had what felt like ovulation type pain around day 8, scan 2 days later still showed a good follicle count but they want a few more of them to be over 16mm so got a couple of extra days. When’s your scan booked for?

Dinky06 · 04/10/2020 16:26

@Tara8 I'm on day 6 and feel all kinds of odd if that's any consolation! My mood seems to be better than it has been but I do feel heavy below. Am off for a scan and blood check tomorrow so hope that will reveal more.

Is anyone else having the issue of running out of injection sites?! Counting down to my 7pm jab...

Tara8 · 04/10/2020 16:34

Thanks @dinky06 and @sunbird24, without going into too much detail I've basically had quite a bit of pre-ovulation mucus for the last 2 days and now nothing so I'm panicking. My next scan is tomorrow at 10am so atleast we don't have too long to wait to find out what's going on! The clinic called me late Friday night and told me to reduce my menopur so maybe that's playing on my mind too?

ThePurpleFairy · 04/10/2020 17:03

@msgloria have you had any replies from me? I’ve tried to respond 2/3 times now but nothing happens when I press send, the send button disappears but nothing happens to the text in the box!

I went for another scan today, I’ve been asked to go again tomorrow. I think she said 16 follicles are a promising size and a few other smaller ones that may catch up, but it’s all a bit of a haze I am going to ask to write it down properly tomorrow I think!

Sunbird24 · 04/10/2020 17:19

@Tara8 oh god the mucus! 🤦‍♀️ Yes, had that too, and there is less of it now. It did freak me out, never had anything like that naturally. As long as you’re doing the injections as instructed they’ll be stopping your body from ovulating as it normally would, hopefully the scan will put your mind at rest.

@ThePurpleFairy that’s a great result, well done! Hope the smaller ones catch up a bit overnight!

mayihavesomecakeplease · 04/10/2020 17:26

It's interesting hearing the variety of drug 'menus' we're all on! I'm just on 150 Menopur, adding Fyremadale tonight (CD6). I've got my first scan tomorrow. Like someone else mentioned, I've been told it will likely be a freeze all as they think I'll be at risk of OHSS, but we'll see how it's going. I've been super uncomfortable today :(

Mrsmch123 · 04/10/2020 17:32

@Lindyloolou the injections are fine. My ovaleap comes in a pen type device. You turn the wee dial to the dose you need and inject. Nice and simple. Hating the nasal spray. Would rather a once a day injection tbh.I'm looking forward to tomorrow's scan to see if any have improved😬

Dinky06 · 04/10/2020 17:41

@Sunbird24 and @Tara8 I'm on the mucus wagon too! Only started Cetrotide which is meant to stop early ovulation yesterday morning and am sure all is fine. It's just such a strange feeling I guess to have such a super charged menstrual

Lightningrain · 04/10/2020 17:43

@Lolly2020 the Fyremadel wasn’t as bad as I thought. It’s a lot easier as there’s no mixing and I actually found it stung less than the Meriofert as it was injected. There was a bit of a sting afterwards but not bad at all.

I’ve got to start vaginal cream tonight as well and then I go for a day 9 scan on Tuesday.

Still trying to keep my water intake up but it’s hard if I’m going out anywhere as I’m going to the toilet every 10 minutes!

It’s sounding quite positive for those that are ahead in their cycle. Fingers crossed for you all!

Dinky06 · 04/10/2020 17:44

Hit post by accident mid-typing!

@ThePurpleFairy that's really good news! Let us know how you get on tomorrow.

Sounds like it will be a day of scan updates with a few of us going.

@MF1981 I forgot to say yay for AF even if early. Hope the transition to starting stims goes OK!

@Tara8 I panicked about this for my second round for the same reason but everything is fine. I googled it and it seems common. That was a gonal f cycle but I don't think it makes a difference as it's estrogen rising that causes the ewcm so not a bad think.

I'm on menopur and gonal f this time to total the max dose of 450iu. Gonal f alone was a piece of cake compared to 6 vials on menopur. I'm not looking forward to doing 2 injections a day. It's lucky I DR with a nasal spray!
