Starting clomid - PCOS diagnosis

Hello all, am 30, DH and I have been ttc for DC2 for over 2.5 years years now. (After the longest referral ever) I was diagnosed with PCOS so have been given metformin 1500 to regulate my cycle, been taking this for a month now. The progesterone blood test shows I am not ovulating so they are sending out a clomid perscription in the post and I'm due to start on my next cycle. (Guessing some time in the nExt two weeks).

Any advice / experiences to share? Anything that I should do along side to increase my chances? Or someone going through the journey - a little nervous but equally excited too!

@sc1995 I think in my last cycle it was around cycle day 20....this one seems as tho it was I'm ovulating day 16 so hold on in there it's not an exact science! Your progesterone test will reveal all. What day are you on?

Hi lovelies hows it going?
@cosmo30 did AF arrive then?

currently on cd16 and no sign of ovulation. Been using the clearblue opks.
hows it going for everyone else?

LethargicButAwesome · 07/06/2020 16:47

Was just thinking about you ladies and whether there was any news from @cosmo30 or @Leodot

@sc I'm on cycle day 19 so a few days ahead, need to go for my day 21 again this mo th as I changed the day I take the tabs, I'm not tracking ovulation with anything apart from monitoring my CF. my blood tests confirmed I ovulated so relying on that plus we are dtd everyday, fo m cycle day 9- in all honesty I'm a bit tired now but have a few more days to go before my 'fertile window' closes.

Hi everyone 😊

I’m a bit fed up this cycle to be honest. On day 37 today, got a bfn on day 35 but have got no hint of pregnancy or AF signs. Not really sure what to do. Was considering my consultant and asking for her advice.

I know what you mean about feeling tired of it @lethargic. I got a bit like that this cycle as I just can’t work out when I've ovulated. It just feels exhausting having to schedule it every other night after work even if we’re tired or have had a bad day.

@sc1995 The two times I had confirmed ovulation it was day 18 and then day 21. This cycle I have no idea 😂.

sc1995 · 07/06/2020 19:15

@LethargicButAwesome @Leodot i know the feeling. dtd gets tiring. and its a bit awkward if you've had a fight with the other half.
@leodot i feel better to know you've ovulated on day 18. it's getting a bit boring getting no smiley face. if i dont ovulate this month, will probably have to increase the dose to 100mg.

LethargicButAwesome · 07/06/2020 21:33

@Leodot hopefully thr delay is a positive one, with pcos you just can't get too excited about a 'pissed period' as it's probably just you body being awkward. But genuinely hope it works for you....hold on in there, there is some consistency with the metformin so fx it's good news for you soon.

@sc1995 totes get the even if you have argued. Awkward 'I'm annoyed with you so will not let myself enjoy this, but being civil because I need your sperm sex'

Heyy
@LethargicButAwesome how did your day 21 blood test go?

@leodot im kind of tired too. Been feeling nauseous on and off. not sure if its down to the metformin or the clomid.

Apart from that no other symptoms to indicate ovulation. Feels like its 100 % not worked this round. ive used some cheapy opks and it shows my lh levels have peaked twice, but not according to the cb digital ones. Think im going to take a break from testing till AF arrives. The OH thinks ive become obsessed reading forums and watching YouTube videos on clomid! (oh and eating pineapples too)

On another note, its really lovely talking to you guys on here. I feel like some people dont understand the struggles of conceiving.

Hello ladies,

We have bene trying for a few months with no luck for our first, I'm beginning to think I have PCOS, waiting for referral to doctor, hard with coronavirus, I don't have many of the symptoms but I've read people can have it without realizing, I'm just wondering did anyone here have it without realizing? Thanks in advance 😊

ChicaXS · 10/06/2020 17:57

So next cycle I’m trying tamoxifen for the first time but this cycle is completely messed up. I’m on cycle day 27 and only just recieved my peak lol . Tried an IC HPT in case and is a negative. Had spotting in cycle day 19 too. Joys of PCOS. I know OPKs are unreliable but I didn’t get a peak all month until today. Odd.

Hi everyone! Sorry I've been away... didn't have any notifications so thought all was quiet.

How is everyone getting on?? I need to catch up, Where are you all in your cycles?

Af arrived, typically. But weird one this cycle as from cycle day 6 I've had major ewcm (sorry tmi I know) which is very unusual and very early for me! Have dtd anyways but don't expect to hit my fertile window until this weekend!

cosmo30 · 11/06/2020 10:20

@TerryRose in answer to your question the only symptom I had was cystic acne! Which bothered me so much I went the docs about it who suggested pcos and organised a test. My hormones were apparently all fine but my ovaries are polycystic. And when that was put together with irregular periods and failure to conceive it all made sense

Wrigleys123 · 11/06/2020 23:26

Hi all, watching this thread with interest as I am hoping to get clomid soon after trying to conceive my second for 18 months!

@TerryRose I have PCO but not PCOS, whatever that means I'm not sure but the only symptom I had was a chemical pregnancy, I wouldn't have known otherwise!

cosmo30 · 13/06/2020 15:02

Well ladies very different cycle for me this month! I've had ewcm from cycle day 6, yesterday I got a positive opk, and today a very strong opk. Not sure why I am ovulating so early but it's very unusual for me, as is the lots and lots of ewcm! It's either the metformin or the fertility smart tablets I've been taking!

sc1995 · 13/06/2020 15:56

Hi @cosmo30
Nice to hear you got a strong opkSmile. What cd are you on? and what dose of clomid are you on?

im on cd22 and no positive opk. but i had loads of EWCM yesterday. Waiting for my blood test results.

Hope you're all having a lovely weekend.

cosmo30 · 13/06/2020 16:19

@sc1995 hi! I'm not on clomid anymore, my last course was February! I'm now taking metformin. I'm on cycle day 11, don't normally ovulate til day 15 onwards so it's all very strange this cycle! I've had ewcm since cycle day 6!

How often a day are you testing with opks? Sounds promising so keep checking!

AttilaTheMeerkat · 13/06/2020 19:44

Please do not waste your money on opks if PCOS is present. Their use is not recommended at all because these kits measure LH. As these levels are often elevated in PCOS patients the kit reads that and gives a false result.

These kits also work on two misleading principles namely that there is only one rise in LH every month and that such a rise is immediately followed by ovulation. Both of these statements are not true.

LethargicButAwesome · 13/06/2020 20:07

@TerryRose @Wrigleys123 welcome to the club. I didn't really have many symptoms and had no idea I had it until I was diagnosed, I would say weight gain but I also hav me an under active thyroid so the symptoms for PCOS and thyroid are very similar. I would say my most obvious symptoms was irregular periods I would get one but it ranged from 35-45 days most months. Since startin metformin period has been much regular.

Im 'due' in a week so in the waiting game/ very similar position to @sc1995 in the past I go crazy with testing but more recently have been better controlled just want to be away with the week so I know whether this cycle was a success or not tbh.

I received my consultant appointment in the post which I was pleasantly surprised with as I assumed with Covid 19 I would not get a follow up so quickly, hoping however I get pregs and won't need it tho! @cosmo30 what happened with you after a cycle of clomid? Sounds as though they just kept you on metformin and left you to it!

Hi everyone,

Had a manic week at work so sorry I’ve been quiet. I’m on CD 44 and still no AF. Two negative hpt’s. Spoke to my consultant last week, who said that if AF hadn’t arrived by the end of this week to call her and she will arrange some blood tests etc. I’m nearly 100% sure I’m not pregnant though. It’s just so frustrating as clomifene/metformin must have failed this round for it to be dragging on so long 😞.

Welcome to @TerryRose and @Wrigleys123. My only PCOS symptoms were my irregular periods 40-85 days and then later, the scans that said they could see the cysts.

@cosmo30 Sorry AF arrived but sounds like this might be ovulation for you which is good!

@sc1995 Hopefully you’re in the fertile window as well, fingers crossed!

@LethargicButAwesome Keeping my fingers crossed for you as well for next week. How are you feeling?

cosmo30 · 14/06/2020 08:52

@LethargicButAwesome wishing you luck for this cycle. Have you had any kind of symptoms? How many dpo are you?
I did 6 rounds of clomid, none worked, first round I actually released two eggs but still didn't conceive so metformin was the next step whilst on the waiting list for ovarian drilling. But due to Covid it got postponed and haven't heard anything back yet.

@Leodot have you done any tests??

Leodot · 14/06/2020 11:08

Yeah, I said I’ve done two tests. Both negative 😞. Did the second one on Monday just gone and rang my consultant on Monday afternoon. She said just wait it out for another two weeks and then she will look into it.

Can’t be bothered to test again until the two week time frame she gave me is up. I just find it so soul destroying.

Leodot · 14/06/2020 11:09

@cosmo30 Sorry to heat clomifene didn’t work for you. ❤️ I’m thinking it might have stopped working for me as well.

cosmo30 · 14/06/2020 12:24

@Leodot oh sorry, didn't see!
Yes I know the feeling, 3 years for me and it doesn't get any easier does it. I do try and stop myself from testing that way there isn't as much disappointment when af arrives.
Try not to get too down about it though and just try and think of it like this round hasn't worked but there is always the next one. But I realise it must be so frustrating without af appearing and just wondering what is going on
Yeah it made me ovulate as had terrible ovulation pains, so I think it's my eggs tbh they must just be rubbish
