Starting clomid - PCOS diagnosis

Hello all, am 30, DH and I have been ttc for DC2 for over 2.5 years years now. (After the longest referral ever) I was diagnosed with PCOS so have been given metformin 1500 to regulate my cycle, been taking this for a month now. The progesterone blood test shows I am not ovulating so they are sending out a clomid perscription in the post and I'm due to start on my next cycle. (Guessing some time in the nExt two weeks).

Any advice / experiences to share? Anything that I should do along side to increase my chances? Or someone going through the journey - a little nervous but equally excited too!

@lethargic Well done secretary! That’s amazing! ❤️ Hopefully everything is falling into place for you.

@cosmo30 Hopefully those are good signs for you!

sc1995 · 24/05/2020 10:50

Hey guys hope you're all good.
@LethargicButAwesome glad to hear you managed to sort out the prescription issue. How has it been taking the clomid this time around?.
I finally came on yesterday, never have i ever been this excited to see AF. Due to start my clomid tonight. Excited and nervous all in one. Trying not to get my hopes up too high though.

LethargicButAwesome · 24/05/2020 11:49

This time has been a little more difficult @sc1995 getting hot flushes and feeling nauseous but thankfully no headaches this time! Th hot flushes are only during the night so I think it's more to do with me leaving more space between having the tablet and going to bed. Best of luck starting clomid! Let us know how it goes

@Leodot @cosmo30 how's the tww, hopefully one of you will break The good news cherry soon!

@sc1995 Good luck with the first round 😊

@Lethargic Ah I don’t have good news yet. I’m a bit frustrated this cycle as it’s day 23 and I’m not sure I’ve ovulated 😞 my temperatures are all over the place this time! I kept thinking I had but my temperatures just don’t show it so I don’t actually know if I’m in the two week wait yet. If I haven’t got AF by day 35 then I might do a test. Definitely not before though! I absolutely hate doing them!

AttilaTheMeerkat · 25/05/2020 12:49

Temp charting with PCOS is problematic and really not worth doing. It just causes the problems you describe and you end up with a chart akin to the Rocky Mountains. Apart from anything else most gynaes do not take any notice of such charts precisely because they are so unreliable.

cosmo30 · 26/05/2020 10:59

@LethargicButAwesome hi! Tww is okay. I've kind of trained myself not to symptom spot as I've always ended up so disappointed in the past. Of course I have it in the back of my mind though. What I find I'm struggling with atm is abit of jealousy, I see threads and people getting their bfp or other threads about unexpected pregnancy etc and it just makes me feel down, but then I feel bad for thinking that way! Can't win.
How is everyone else getting on? The hot flushes for me were the worst on clomid! I'd wake up in the night so hot and found I never had a full nights sleep until I'd finished the clomid

cosmo30 · 26/05/2020 10:59

@Leodot have you had any signs of ovulation?

Leodot · 26/05/2020 12:24

@cosmo30 I know, it’s so hard not to symptom spot. When are you thinking of testing? It’s so hard as well when it feels like you can’t move for pregnancy announcements ❤️. I’ve had loads from people recently. Luckily not anyone I will have to have any immediate contact with, more like sisters of friends or colleagues etc.

Annoyingly I’ve had loads of EWCM since day 22 (now on day 24) so I’m wondering if this is ovulation. I’ve missed it though if it is, as my husband is on an awkward shift pattern and he works 12 hour shifts. I haven’t seen him since day 20. 😞 Ah well!

Leodot · 26/05/2020 12:25

Sorry I meant I’m on day 25. Losing track of myself here 😂.

sc1995 · 26/05/2020 13:50

Hey all!! thank you. I've had 2 tablets so far. The first day i was surprised that i didnt have any side effects. Last night however was a different story. I was sweating buckets. Ive got quite bad nausea today too. On the plus side 4 hours left for work. Trying to keep positive, thinking about the end goal, which would make all these side effects worth it. how are you all getting on?

is anyone else taking any supplements apart from the prenatal vitamins?

LethargicButAwesome · 29/05/2020 00:51

@Leodot you never know you may have caught ovulation... yOu will know soon:)

@sc1995 how were the side effects, the hot fishes were and still are awful had my last tablet 3 days ago and I am still having severe hot flushes

@Leodot I don't usually test tbh, as my period last few cycles has turned up pretty much on time! Last time I tested was January, because I had my last round of clomid and was 6 days late.. which is unusual on clomid as I clearly ovulated as had terrible ovulation pains! But was on holiday so couldn't test til I got home and it was negative. So not sure what happened there!!

It sounds like that was ovulation for you then? What cycle day are you now?

Leodot · 29/05/2020 12:12

I’m on day 28. Still getting really thick CM every day so I’m wondering if I should just discount this cycle as I have no idea what’s going on!! Going to wait a week and either do a test or see if AF arrives. If both are a negative then I might ring my consultant to ask her advice.

Leodot · 29/05/2020 12:14

@sc1995

I haven’t been taking any supplements other than folic acid! I probably should though. How are you getting on with the clomifene? Is it your last day today?

@LethargicButAwesome

How are the hot flushes? Have they calmed down yet?

sc1995 · 31/05/2020 11:10

@Leodot the last 2 days were ok. Was really busy at work so that kept my mind off things.

im on cd8 today and decided to use an opk. im really confused by the result. is it possible to ovulate this early? or has the clomid messed with my results. so confused. might just get a cb digital test tomorrow and check again.

@LethargicButAwesome i hope the hot flushes have calmed down. This weather doesnt really help. I dont know if anyone experienced this but i would have bizarre dreams while on clomid. thankfully thats all stopped now.

what cycle day is everyone on? fingers and toes crossed for you guys

sc1995 · 31/05/2020 11:11

not sure if this means anything?

Leodot · 31/05/2020 11:31

@sc1995

I’m not really sure about ovulation sticks as I never got anything on them. From what I remember it said you needed a dark line to be positive for ovulation and that usually you should have a line that’s darker than the control line. I think I’d just start having sex every other/every couple of days from now onwards as it can’t hurt.

I’m on day 31 now. Just waiting to see if anything happens.

cosmo30 · 31/05/2020 12:13

@Leodot hi, any news this cycle?

@LethargicButAwesome how're the hot flushes now?

@sc1995 that looks like it's leading upto a positive to me! The line has to be as dark OR darker than the control line. So keep testing everyday at the same times, and as you get nearer apparent ovulation date test twice a day to hopefully catch your surge!

Af due today for me. Had felt very sick this week but as of yesterday feel okay and having slight cramps today so pretty sure that's me out this cycle

LethargicButAwesome · 02/06/2020 01:25

Hot flushes very much still present! The interface taste of what menopausal women go through and it's not pleasant!!

@sc1995 that defo seems as though its leading up to a positive, hopefully you will peak soon and you catch ovulation.

@cosmo30 and @Leodot hopefully AF will stay away and this will be it for you, the wait is nearly over and you will know sure enough....with sticky CM I had a lot in my last cycle, common to appear before AF apparently, but have read it's very different when on clomid, so only time will tell....

OP posts:
cosmo30 · 03/06/2020 10:05

Well, I was 3 days late, very scant spotting but now af is appearing 🙄 got to say I'm feeling pretty peed off this month!
How is everyone else getting on?

LethargicButAwesome · 03/06/2020 11:41

@cosmo30 sorry to hear :(

Sucks especially when you get your hopes up by being late. Don't lose hope, brush your self off and we try again. I know your not taking clomid but are you defo ovulating?

Trying to lose weight as I know that really helps with pcos and fertility Burbank it's so hard!!

OP posts:
cosmo30 · 03/06/2020 12:37

@LethargicButAwesome I know it's crap but just one of them! I held off on testing too as I guess deep down I just knew it was just a late period. But as you say, just got to crack on with the next cycle and keep hoping!

Are you taking any supplements or vitamins? I take a daily pre pregnancy vitamin but now looking at Myo-inositol too, might be worth a try!

LethargicButAwesome · 03/06/2020 13:42

It's frustrating....after almost three years of trying, the disappointment does get to you some months.

I've just started taking pregacare, I have always had it just due to pure laziness I haven't kept on top of, my bad.

I think I am at peak ovulation so busy dtd away....will now for sure in about 2-3 weeks!

OP posts:
cosmo30 · 03/06/2020 14:15

Yes, you start to think it's never going to happen !
Oh I am exactly the same, always forget to take them im terrible for it !! Lots of luck to you for this cycle

sc1995 · 04/06/2020 21:01

@cosmo30 @Leodot i got some clear blue digital opks and still no smiley face. What days do you all usually ovulate?

its driving me up the wall not knowing whether its working or not as its ummonitored. ive got a blood test on day 21 to see if ive ovulated. Fingers crossed.

@cosmo sorry to hear AF arrived.
Hows its going for the rest of yous?
