Starting clomid - PCOS diagnosis

LethargicButAwesome · 18/04/2020 12:54

Hello all, am 30, DH and I have been ttc for DC2 for over 2.5 years years now. (After the longest referral ever) I was diagnosed with PCOS so have been given metformin 1500 to regulate my cycle, been taking this for a month now. The progesterone blood test shows I am not ovulating so they are sending out a clomid perscription in the post and I'm due to start on my next cycle. (Guessing some time in the nExt two weeks).

Any advice / experiences to share? Anything that I should do along side to increase my chances? Or someone going through the journey - a little nervous but equally excited too!

Hi @EasterBunny7 I noticed some egg white mucus early on but I didn’t tend to ovulate until around day 21 even with clomifene. I just kept going until about day 25 just to make sure I’d definitely not missed it!

@sc1995 I’m so sorry to hear that. Take time for yourself if you can and just be gentle with yourself. Sending you lots of love and hugs. xxxxx

@sittingwaitingwishing Fingers crossed the 100 mg works for you. That’s good that you can get the blood tests. I hope everything is ok with your husband as well. Sending love and hugs to you too xxx

LethargicButAwesome · 14/09/2020 20:06

Oh @sc1995 that is heartbreaking I am so sorry to hear that :( sending you lots of love, such a struggle to get pregnant in the first place then for it to end in a miscarriage - so very sorry.

Well I'm on a bit of. Break, still taking metformin (when I can remember!) and have stoped the clomid, on a three month break then will start letrozole hoping it will give me more luck.

@sc1995 I'm so sorry, awful news to hear. I hope you're okay considering the circumstances and sending lots of love ❤️

Been a while since anyone posted? How are you all holding up.

I'm still on my clomid break...hoping to start letrozole next month

Hi @LethargicButAwesome all has been quiet hasn't it! How're you finding your break? Bet it's nice to just chill and not have baby fever !!
Tbh I've not been thinking about it myself the last couple of months, just waiting to start the ivf actually so have calmed down abit on the ttc front.

Hi everyone, i think we are all feeling the same way! I had my first course of 2.5mg of letrozole. No sign of ovulation so my doctor had me take another 5days of 5mg from day 18-23 which seemed very bizarre to me, but did lead to a lovely big follicle of 2.1cm and ovulation! Unfortunately no BFP so now im on two unmonitored cycles of 5mg from the outset. Today is day 13 of the first unmonitored cycle - no ewcm or positive ovulation test but keeping fingers crossed for early next week as even before the PCOS diagnosis, i had a longer cycle rather than the classic 28days.

sittingwaitingwishing · 08/10/2020 11:39

Hello everyone! Like A lot of you, still in a bit of a lull at the moment. I’ve got my prescription of Clomid at 100mg ready to go as soon as we get the results back from my husbands tests - I’ve been enjoying not having the hormones or the pressure for a good few weeks while we wait to be honest. Just hoping 100mg does the trick and makes me ovulate 🤞
Thinking of you all and sending everyone lots of luck x

cosmo30 · 14/11/2020 19:57

How's everyone doing ?

@LethargicButAwesome have you started your letrozole now?

@Leodot how're you feeling? How far along are you now?

Leodot · 14/11/2020 20:11

Hi @cosmo30 I’m ok thankyou. I’m nearly 22 weeks now. I’m feeling alright but I’ve got placenta previa so they are keeping an eye on me and I’ve got a few extra scans and appointments coming up. I’m going to be stopping work at 28 weeks as well because of covid and the fact that I can’t teach children while sticking to social distancing. Luckily my head teacher has been amazing about it all. Had quite a few cases of corona at my school so I have been feeling a little anxious but I’m doing ok thank you 😊. How are you? I saw you mentioned that you were waiting for ivf. Do you have a timescale for that? xx

LethargicButAwesome · 14/11/2020 21:21

Hey @cosmo30 nope not started yet, was due to start any day now but mentioned to my consultant that intercourses has been painful lately and she asked me to wait this cycle out until she has had a chance to do an internal scan and check to make sure there are no cyst. With my extra long cycles this will probably now be at Christmas time when I first take letrozole bit gutted tbf but what can you do?

How has the ivf journey been for you? What stage are you at now?

@Leodot best of luck, better to be safe than sorry, really hope everything works out and bub is born healthy x

@LethargicButAwesome Thank you. Really hope that your scan goes well and that you don’t have to wait too long for it. ❤️

sittingwaitingwishing · 15/11/2020 08:42

Hey everyone - I have hesitated in posting because I am still finding it hard to believe, but I got my BFP last Friday. I should be 5 weeks tomorrow, so still very early days. Considering I wasn’t ovulating consistently on Clomid and this was my first round on 100mg, it has been a really lovely surprise. I’m waiting to find out when my first scan will be as my gynae referred me to the EPU (I presume to check everything is OK and rule out multiples), but we have also booked a private scan in a fortnight when I’ll be just under 7 weeks. I know it’ll still be very early but I feel quite anxious about it all, so hoping it might give me some reassurance 🤞

Leodot · 15/11/2020 09:17

@sittingwaitingwishing Congratulations!! That’s wonderful news! I’m so pleased for you ❤️

LethargicButAwesome · 18/11/2020 21:28

@sittingwaitingwishing oh wonderful news ❤️ Congrats - hoping to a very healthy bub for the both of you xx

Thank you @Leodot and @LethargicButAwesome ❤️

cosmo30 · 21/11/2020 08:24

@Leodot well, use it as a reason to rest as much as possible and enjoy the extra time off work! What a funny world were living in at the moment. I wish you all the best with your pregnancy ❤️

@LethargicButAwesome it's a shame about pushing the course back but it's best to be safe and find out if there is a reason for the pain? Best of luck with it ❤️

@sittingwaitingwishing congratulations fantastic news !!

I'm just waiting for a bleed from the northisterone and then will start my injections! Feeling nervous but excited, just hope it works

LethargicButAwesome · 13/12/2020 22:56

@sittingwaitingwishing @Leodot hope pregnancy is going well!

@cosmo30 exciting , nervous, hopeful , hormonal times ahead! All the best x

I done something silly I took letrozmetropole after doc told me to wait. Just felt like I was doing nothing since July and just went for it, I know silly but that biological clock ticking is SO LOUD.

Will find out next week if it was worth defying docs orders :(

Happy new year! How's everyone doing?

@LethargicButAwesome we do these things when we are desperate !! Did you get the news you was hoping for ?

Update from me, I've had my first round of ivf and we now have 9 embryos in the freezer and am hoping for a transfer this month (lockdown permitting) we had a freeze all so just waiting for a period and hopefully can start the next lot of meds, got everything crossed

LethargicButAwesome · 06/01/2021 00:40

HNY to you too!@cosmo30

That is exciting indeed, hopefully the first will be a success and you won’t need to worry about the rest! Really hope lockdown doesn’t screw things up for you...it’s not an easy journey but hopefully it will be worth it. What have you budgeted for ivf if you don’t mind me asking?

Nothing to report here. Took metropole got my period on day 21 which is the earliest in my life. I’m taking timed release capsules now for metformin, which are much easier on the stomach...have a consolation this month to check for cysts and endo, after that I should be allowed to start letrozole, we have decided that if letrozole does not help then will go private. Just annoyed as my consultation is right after my period so another wasted month.

Can I join! Would love a clomid buddy!

Been ttc 2.5yrs for 1st with no luck. Af started today so on to me 4th round of clomid.

How many rounds did it take you?

LethargicButAwesome · 08/01/2021 08:32

Of course welcome @babybumpfor2021 hopefully clinks will be a success for you! LetroZole and Clomid have been a success for many on this group :)

Unfortunately I took five months of clod and due to the increasing side effects was advised to pause for three months as too many side effects may mean it’s not as effective. My last dose was almost 6 months ago and am due to start letrozole but awaiting an internal scan due to pains during bding - frustrated at the moment just waitinggggg we been trying for almost 3.5 years for baby number 2.

Feel free to air your thoughts and frustrations here !

@LethargicButAwesome Smile

Sorry to hear the clomid did work for you! What side effects did you have? thankfully not had many myself.

I'm a constant worrier, and stressing if it's working or if this is our month, it's an emotional rollercoaster!

I've been told the next step would be ivf, we are lucky to currently have 1 free nhs circle in my area, but I'm already stressing knowing that it's not going to work and I'll never get my baby.

Baby dust to everyone!!

mrs04 · 15/01/2021 15:00

Hey, hope everyone in this group is doing well and clomid has been successful Smile

I started clomid last week and had my day 10 tracking scan today. Still not sure if it was all good news today, and I have to go back monday (day 13) for another scan.

I had 2 follicles meassuring 10 and 11mm. Anyone else had similar measurements?

cosmo30 · 25/01/2021 18:13

@LethargicButAwesome how're you doing? Any more news? have you started the letrozole yet? Have you had the internal scan?

I'm due an embryo transfer next week so fingers crossed! The meds I'm on to build up my lining are giving me horrid headaches but hopefully it's worth it
