Anyone on Letrozole?

rubywoo24 · 25/08/2019 21:46

Hi everyone

I have been prescribed 3 cycles of Letrozole and I have just started AF after a very very long few months. So quite excited to finally getting things going!
We're currently away and I do have my medication with me but not the leaflet that came with it. So just want to double check that I am taking it correctly:

  • do I count tomorrow as CD1 as AF only started at 9.30pm today
  • is there a specific time that I have to take the tablets, I think night time is recommended?
  • do I take both tablets together?

Any other help or advice would be much appreciated!

@unknownscot that’s really odd about your clinic and I’m sure not helping with the stress levels!

I also had problems with bloods as my cycles are quite irregular - they did my progesterone day 21 despite me telling the nurse that I’d only just got a positive OPK that day. The doctor phoned me back next day to say it came back negative and I told her what I’d told the nurse so I went back a few days later and got a positive result.

I have mixed feelings about OPKs and my doctor told me not to use them as they’re unreliable. I used OPKs (just the cheap strips) and got an LH surge every month but doctors think I still wasn’t actually then ovulating every month (except by fluke my only 32 day cycle was the one they tested and progesterone came back positive!). I don’t use OPKs anymore but I now have the trigger shot so know when I’ll ovulate anyway. If I wasn’t on the trigger shot then I’d probably still use them as they are useful for timing when you should be ovulating - the only way to know if you actually did though is a progesterone test but I’m guessing you have them monthly anyway if you’re on letrozole?

I’ve just booked an open evening at IVF clinic too for next month but hoping (as I know we all are!) that it doesn’t come to that as I have low AMH and have been told that I won’t respond well to IVF drugs and will not get many eggs, so possibly no viable embryos. We’ll have to go private so a lot of money for not a lot of hope. Come on letrozole, we can do this!! 😊

Happy birthday @Carleyxo and congratulations on your award - hoping it’s only the start of the good news heading your way... x

TTCbabyONE · 29/01/2020 18:58

@longtermTTC I’m hoping tomorrow she can give me some answers of what my next step is as I like to know what I’m working towards if that makes sense. My progesterone was 1 so shows I didn’t ovulate this cycle so I think you’re right about it being a ‘stick follicle’. She did mention today about maybe having a trigger shot when I finally get onto the next cycle xx

AfterGlow87 · 29/01/2020 20:07

Hi all, just catching up on all the messages now! Happy birthday @Carleyxo! And congrats on your salon news too, how lovely.

Sorry to hear you have a cyst @TTCbabyONE, very frustrating! Did they happen to tell you what type of cyst? Eg haemorragic or simple? I see them all the time when I’m scanning and the majority do resolve when you get your period! I had one last cycle that went away on its own and I had never had one before that!

Hope you’re ok @unknownscot, very frustrating re your clinic and I hope you get some answers soon!

I’m on CD14 today, had a scan and have a follicle of 20mm so triggering tonight! They could see my blocked tube very clearly today, doesn’t give me much hope but as the follicle is on the other side you never know I guess

TTCbabyONE · 29/01/2020 20:15

@AfterGlow87 she didn’t say. She just thinks it was there because I didn’t ovulate so I’m not sure what type that would be. I could ask her tomorrow. Im doubting my period will come on it’s own so I don’t know what they will suggest xx

Sylva123 · 29/01/2020 22:40

Yours won't be an endometrial one like mine @TTCbabyONE, as they don't come from not ovulating, so hopefully yours will absolutely pass on it's own. I get the trigger shot each month now though which is amazing in terms of being more sure you're ovulating. I hope they give it to you next time round.

@AfterGlow87 that's great that you're triggering tonight! Fingers crossed for you that it's ok despite the tube issues.

Sylva123 · 29/01/2020 22:43

@LongtermTTC I'm in the same boat... Keep thinking I can feel AF comingboje minute and then next I'm googling articles about symptoms despite knowing I've been here before and never got a BFP!

Same as you I don't usually get my progesterone results til way after AF comes, but the one tmw is actually a private one. Im curious to see how high it is with me taking cyclogest. Yay for longer cycles for us!!! Have they offered cyclogest to you to elongate yours? Is yours a luteal phase issue like mine?

LongtermTTC · 29/01/2020 23:22

@Sylva123 I’ve not heard of cyclogest. I fairly consistently have a 10 day luteal phase but nobody’s ever said anything about that being a problem - know it’s shorter than average but not sure what constitutes too short. How long is yours? Maybe I’ll chat with the nurse practitioner about it next month x

Sylva123 · 29/01/2020 23:53

@longtermttc Apparently there's disagreement on how much it actually impacts things as some people with short luteal phases do still get pregnant, but I've been told 12 days is best but 10 is still fairly ok so not to worry. And I trust that if they'd thought it was an issue they'd have mentioned it cos they want to get you pregnant just as much as we want it (I so hope that's the case). Might be worth mentioning anyway, as I think cyclogest can't hurt if they're willing to give it. The cyclogest lengthens my luteal phase so I start taking it a couple of days after the trigger shot (to be sure it's after ovulation) and 14 or 15 days later I do a preg test and if it's BFP I keep taking it and if it's BFN I stop it and AF comes. Last month I didn't take it cos the cycle went a bit wrong (no trigger shot, early ovulation that I didn't notice etc) and I ended up with a 21 day cycle. The cycle before that I was able to lengthen the luteal phase to give more time for implantation but still got BFN.... I obsessively tested cos I'd convinced myself it had worked, but it hadn't :-(
My luteal phase varies from 7 days to 11 days. Although it's not good, I get the feeling they don't think it's the reason I'm not getting preg though. I'm still "unexplained". Are you? X

Sylva123 · 29/01/2020 23:55

BTW cyclogest is progesterone. That's how it maintains the luteal phase

LongtermTTC · 30/01/2020 10:19

@Sylva123 My nurse practitioner is great (when I was told by the rather obnoxious receptionist that they couldn’t fit me in for my follicle tracking scan until day 13 this cycle when I’d been told they wanted to see me before day 12 I just spoke to her directly and she fitted me in between patients during another clinic she had) and I genuinely believe she’s rooting for me. I’m sure she would have said if she thought I’d benefit from it but I guess no harm in asking. Thanks for the info, I see what you mean about your progesterone test results being hard to read much into but fingers crossed it at least gives you some reassurance that things are going as they should. It’s so hard to find the balance between keeping positive and not getting your hopes up to protect yourself, especially when you get symptoms that are so open to interpretation.

Yep, I’m still “unexplained” too - is a double edged sword really, great to know that there’s no reason why I shouldn’t get pregnant and I know that makes me very fortunate compared to others but also means there’s no clear course of action and we’re just kind of making it up as we go along and hoping for the best. I guess that’s all we’re all doing really though x

LongtermTTC · 30/01/2020 10:26

@TTCbabyONE that totally makes sense to want to know where you stand and what you’re working towards - I’m always hopeful each cycle but forever thinking 2 steps ahead, hence lining up IVF clinic visits even though we’re not there yet. Any little bit of control you can have in something that feels so out of your control means a lot. Hope they get back to you with a plan today x

LongtermTTC · 30/01/2020 10:29

Saw this article and thought of all you cat ladies on here... x

TTCbabyONE · 30/01/2020 16:25

Hi all, hope everyone’s doing ok.

The hospital phoned me back - thank god woman i saw yesterday was lovely and actually seemed to care!
Need to take another lot of provera to start AF but higher dose and hopefully that will get things going. She also said I’ll definitely get the shot next cycle which I’m relieved about xx

Just read that article @LongtermTTC it’s amazing if they can sense it. My cat always wants extra fuss when I’m feeling down, I always think he knows 😂 🐱 xx

Sylva123 · 30/01/2020 17:46

Haha @LongtermTTC that's funny about the cat article. I'm now going to be following my cat around during the TWW, waiting for her to rub my leg or lie on my tummy! She's going to be in shock when a baby does eventually come along. She's not great at sharing attention!

Sylva123 · 30/01/2020 17:47

@TTCbabyONE that's good to have something to be getting on with. I hope the provera helps!

Carleyxo · 31/01/2020 11:42

Hi ladies :)

I'm so confused I bought a clear blue digital monitor and so far every test has come back low (this was a second hand monitor)

I've been using the purple clear blue digi sticks and yesterday and today I've had a flashing smiley but the monitor is saying low??

What do you think?

Sylva123 · 31/01/2020 12:36

Oh blimey I've got no idea. That's really weird. I'd go with the positive result in case the monitor is faulty. Would be awful to miss ovulation! Is the monitor less sensitive? It might show a positive tomorrow if the purple sticks are picking it up today?
Also I think I remember that flashing smileys come from the oestrogen and static smileys come from the LH (i think that's right - it's a bit too complicated for me tbh) so if our oestrogen is getting messed about with on the letrozole surely it confuses our tests? I don't know how the monitor works but maybe it's looking for LH only and ignores the oestrogen?

Sylva123 · 31/01/2020 12:37

This is all just total guess work based on random internet reading and not at all trustworthy so it's very likely that I'm talking nonsense!

Carleyxo · 31/01/2020 18:39

So when the monitor is reading the test it looks for two things and I remember one of them saying oestrogen. I just did a cheap test and it's well and truly negative so I'm so confused? I just did it now and last went to the toilet around 4 so unsure if that would be why?

I wonder if I won't ovulate this month? @Sylva123 x

TTCbabyONE · 31/01/2020 20:57

Hi @Carleyxo unfortunately I have no idea either, I’ve only ever used the cheap strip ones.

Maybe the monitor is less sensitive. I read about them before as was looking to buy one and it said some woman do have an LH surge but it’s isn't always picked up by the monitor so this may be what’s happening x

Sylva123 · 31/01/2020 21:56

@Carleyxo what cycle day are you? Is there any way your clinic would give you a scan so you can see if you've got any follicles growing? I'm at a bit of a loss with the ovulation tests because I've had negatives the past 2 months and I've always had positives. Are you able to dtd every other day and hope for the best that way? Or is it a bit much? We find it a bit much to do it that often all month but a lot of people do it that way. How was your birthday? X

Carleyxo · 31/01/2020 22:16

Ohhh really @TTCbabyONE I hope so because it would make sense but that monitor was so much more expensive haha!

@Sylva123 I'm on CD 13 and we have dtd every other since last Friday and then last night and the night before so I'm hoping it will catch it. I'll do another clear blue stick tomorrow and see if it still flashes x

Sylva123 · 31/01/2020 22:21

@Carleyxo yes definitely you've done amazingly. Remember I had negative tests but when I had a scan she could see the follicles there, so hopefully the tests are just missing the LH surge and you will ovulate tmw or the next day (or maybe you've already ovulated )🤞🤞🤞

Carleyxo · 31/01/2020 22:23

I hope so! @Sylva123 my reflexologist did say she could feel follicles so I hope she's right. That was on Tuesday x
