Anyone on Letrozole?

1000 replies

rubywoo24 · 25/08/2019 21:46

Hi everyone

I have been prescribed 3 cycles of Letrozole and I have just started AF after a very very long few months. So quite excited to finally getting things going!
We're currently away and I do have my medication with me but not the leaflet that came with it. So just want to double check that I am taking it correctly:

  • do I count tomorrow as CD1 as AF only started at 9.30pm today
  • is there a specific time that I have to take the tablets, I think night time is recommended?
  • do I take both tablets together?

Any other help or advice would be much appreciated!

@sylva123 thanks for that info! We don’t actually use Letrozole in my clinic for follicle stimulation so not too familiar with it. Hopefully I’ll adjust with time - although if it works I’ll take the side effects Wink

Carleyxo · 21/01/2020 19:26

OH should get results this point this week so fingers crossed @Sylva123
Your experience sounds so bad bless you what hospital are you at again?
@AfterGlow87 a few drinks and time away from it all sounds good that's my plan too :-) do you know when you should be due to ovulate? X

Sylva123 · 21/01/2020 19:35

@Carleyxo it's Croydon. Such a bad hospital for so many reasons (it's just been hit badly by the cuts so it's really struggling), but the doctor is so nice so that makes up for it. If it comes to us going private then we'll travel to Woking to go to the Nuffield there.

Fingers crossed for the results. How are you feeling now?

Carleyxo · 21/01/2020 19:37

I'm so so shocked at all these cuts it upsets me they cut it in all the wrong places. How much would private cost do you know? I feel so so so much better now thank you and the reflexology is bliss @Sylva123 x

AfterGlow87 · 21/01/2020 20:28

@Carleyxo I was just looking up reflexology earlier on! Do you find it beneficial?

I normally ovulate day 15 of my cycle so hopefully around 30th of this month - Due to be scanned day 12 so I might know more then 🤞

Carleyxo · 21/01/2020 22:11

Fingers crossed for you @AfterGlow87 when's your OH SA or has he already had it? Sorry takes me a while to remember haha! I love reflexology sooo relaxing which helps so much and they can tell you so much it's so weird!!! I plan to do two 30 min sessions a month which is great as a lot only do 1 hour so it works out a bit cheaper. Once she's got my periods a little heavier she is happy for me to go just around ovulation x

LongtermTTC · 24/01/2020 11:06

Hi guys, mind if I join you? I’m nearly 38 and hubby and I have been TTC for 14 months. I’m currently on my third cycle of letrozole, this month with an hcg trigger shot too (as still didn’t ovulate with letrozole alone).

Anyone else had the trigger shot too? I’ve been feeling unusually low the last couple of days and wondering if that was a side effect?

In any case, would be good to chat to people going through the same thing and share the highs and lows

Sylva123 · 24/01/2020 11:40

Hello @longtermTTC and welcome! I'm also having letrozole and the trigger shot. The first time I had the shot I felt exactly like you - I was so low, spent a whole day crying. It was absolutely awful. I had it again a couple of days ago and I feel fine this time, just really really tired (struggling to get out of bed before 8.30am!). I think what you're experiencing is totally normal. Our body is having a giant hit of hormones and it freaks it out. It did pass and I ended up feeling ok again. I think we also underestimate the emotional toll of what we're going through sometimes. All the hope and the loss etc - it is hard. I'm trying to make sure I have a couple of days to take it easy after the shot from now on. What cycle day are you? I'm day 14.

Nice to have you with us xx

Sylva123 · 24/01/2020 11:42

@Carleyxo sorry I only just saw your message. Judging by another thread on here going private for IVF is going to be expensive... Around the £35k mark for some people, others have spent more. We both work for charities and just don't have that sort of cash (like most people I'd imagine), so the pressure is on for letrozole to work! How are you doing this week?

TTCbabyONE · 24/01/2020 12:07

Hi everyone, how are you all doing? Sorry been quiet had a shitty week!

I’m currently on Cycle 1 Day 62! 😳 Had to take Letrozole to induce AF but nothing yet, so waiting for the Fertility clinic to phone.

@Carleyxo what’s the longest it’s taken you to come on after taking Provera? Last time it took about 4days but it’s been 10 days so far xx

TTCbabyONE · 24/01/2020 12:50

Just read that back, I mean Provera for AF! 🤦🏼‍♀️

Sylva123 · 24/01/2020 15:06

Bloody hell @ttcbabyone you must be so frustrated, what a long cycle. I have the opposite problem to you (hello 21 day cycles). A happy middle would be nice for us both!
Hope the clinic give you some good advice x

TTCbabyONE · 24/01/2020 15:11

Hey @sylva123 oh it’s so annoying isn’t it! I’ve been so bloated etc and feeling like coming on for nearly 3 weeks now, but nothing! Still waiting for a call. If I don’t hear today then will call again Monday. I never thought I would want a period so much! Xx

LongtermTTC · 24/01/2020 15:56

Oh thank you @Sylva123 - reading your post set me off crying again but this time with relief that I’m not going mad and someone else has been there too. I spent most of the day yesterday in bed crying but the fog has lifted a bit this afternoon so hoping it’s just the blast of hormones and I’ll feel better tomorrow - I’m not usually this emotional! Glad to hear your second round was not so bad.

I’m on day 14 too - the wait from here is agonising isn’t it?! I’ve got the progesterone test next week so fingers crossed we’ve finally found a way to get me to ovulate - I don’t dare to hope we’ll conceive this month but would be one hurdle overcome. Fingers crossed we both get lucky this time around though 🤞

LongtermTTC · 24/01/2020 16:01

@TTCbabyONE I’m so sorry, that sounds miserable! I have the opposite problem with my last cycle only 15 days but usually anywhere between 20-32 days, I can only imagine that a long cycle is even harder as it’s yet more waiting (gotta love the endless waiting when TTC!). Irregular cycles just seem to make the planning even more complicated and you never really know where you are. Hope the clinic can help get things moving along again soon x

TTCbabyONE · 24/01/2020 16:50

@LongtermTTC it’s weird how everyone is so different! I don’t usually have any period so I’ve taken the Provera to induce and so far it hasn’t worked, such a nightmare.

I will keep my fingers crossed, hope the HGC shot works for you! Xx

Carleyxo · 24/01/2020 21:13

Hey @LongtermTTC :-)

@TTCbabyONE the letrozole doesn't really effect my cycle length. It's around 26/28 days and I always come on around when I'm due this month was two days earlier than the flo app predicted.

That's ok @Sylva123x I'm all good thank you period came Monday properly and finished by Tuesday so still short but a bit more there. Due to ovulate next Wednesday on my bday :-) x

Sylva123 · 26/01/2020 09:35

@LongtermTTC how are you feeling now? Have you come out the other side okay? I get what you mean - it is a real fig isn't it. I'm not normally like that either, it totally floored me last time. Hope the progesterone test has good news this week. I'm having mine Thursday but tbh I'm not sure there's any point cos I'm taking progesterone tablets so the result with be skewed. Still, I just want to see a good number for once!

@TTCbabyONE did you get your period?

@Carleyxo birthday ovulation has to be a good sign!!! Hope you've got lovely things planned for Wednesday?

Good luck everyone this week xx

Sylva123 · 26/01/2020 09:35

Fog! Haha, not fig!

Carleyxo · 26/01/2020 09:37

I hope so @Sylva123 🤞🏽 I have Tuesday and Wednesday off work so Tuesday having my nails done and reflexology then will chill and Wednesday going to maybe go to Durdle Door for a nice walk and something nice to eat. Had a heavy night last night 😂 so drinking is a no no. I was in two minds to drink last night but I thought you can't put everything on hold hey! X

TTCbabyONE · 26/01/2020 09:53

@Sylva123 not yet 😩 need to phone the clinic again on Monday and see if I can speak to someone. Not sure what my next step will be. How are you? X

@Carleyxo hope you had a good night and you’re not too hanging today! You’re definitely right, you can’t put everything on hold x

Hope you’re doing ok @LongtermTTC x

Sylva123 · 26/01/2020 10:40

@Carleyxo I grew up around Durdle Door - it is SO beautiful there!
Sounds like such lovely plans for this week! Hope you have the loveliest birthday!

@ttcbabyone that's such a nightmare. Hope they can bring it on for you. Yeah I'm ok. Knackered yesterday so cancelled all my plans and had a Netflix day! Was meant to be going out for dinner with my girly friends but one of them just announced her pregnancy and whilst I'm so happy for her (I'd never want anyone to be going through what we are), I just didn't feel ready for a night of baby chat!

Sylva123 · 26/01/2020 10:44

Actually can I ask you guys' advice? My step mum died in May. My dad wants me to meet his new girlfriend on Saturday night - I'm thinking of cancelling because I'm trying to avoid anything anxiety-provoking and potentially stressful. It'll be CD22 so it's around implantation time. Is that really selfish and awful of me? I've just tried so hard this month to avoid all stresses and I can foresee it being quite hard. Obviously I want him to be happy, but I'm still grieving to be honest and I know my siblings are too - so it definitely won't be relaxing

TTCbabyONE · 26/01/2020 11:02

@sylva123 I’m having a Netflix day today, my OH has gone out so it’s just me and the cat! I don’t blame you for cancelling last night, 2 of my closest friends are expecting in May 2 weeks apart and it can be really draining - even though you are also happy for them. Just tough to listen to for a whole evening, so I know exactly where you’re coming from x

I don’t think you’re wrong if you cancel meeting your Dads GF. It’s not awful or selfish, you have to do what’s right for you. This journey is hard enough without the extra anxiety/stress. Maybe just explain to your Dad that you’re still grieving (he may not realise) but that you want him to be happy. I’m sure he will understand that it’s not the right time for you to meet her and respect that decision. Everyone grieves in their own way and it hasn’t been that long. Perhaps suggest that you would like to meet her in a couple of months. That way you have time to get your head round it and can plan around your cycle if you need to. Hope that helps x

Sylva123 · 26/01/2020 11:21

@ttcbabyone ooh I love those Netflix & cat days! I just tried to do some yoga and my cat just rolled around on the mat! So cute! Hope you have a nice relaxing day. It's what Sundays are for!

Thanks for your advice re: my dad's GF. I think he's just so desperate for us all to meet her and get on with this new life, and I'm sure she's absolutely lovely and it'll be fine, but I'm worried I'll end up really nervous about it or it'll be really tense and it'll mess this cycle up. I think I'll just have to tell him it's bad timing with the treatment and I'd really like to meet her maybe next month or the one after when things have calmed down a bit . Thank you x
